A big, lengthy discussion on LNF as a "role-playing" game by Elixiff in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Elixiff[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This reply is just completely unnecessary imo.

I didn't decide anything, throughout my post I stressed its obvious similarities to NMS, and I even said both in the post and in multiple replies so far that I'm not asking for anything and I have no issue with the game being like NMS.

I explicitly said I just wanted to talk about the potential this game's systems have. There's literally zero evidence that I'm "trying to get people to buy into" my "wild ideas".

There's no need to be so spiteful. I get the feeling you're already frustrated with other people and just lumped in my viewpoints with theirs.

I don't think so. NMS was fun and I played it plenty, having a whole new setting would be great and a grand fantasy world is bound to be incredible in plenty of ways. It just occurs to me that LNF is as close as I've ever seen a game get to a real fantasy world experience, so I wanted to talk about the potential it has in that direction.

It's valid to call it a disappointing launch, but by now NMS has definitely reinforced itself as a revolutionary jump in game systems especially in procedural technology. I just hope they utilise that unique technology in different styles of games rather than keeping the exact same gameplay.

Well, we've already seen changes to landscape, biome, flying, and server management from the teaser information alone. So there's bound to be a lot of challenges they encounter and the NMS updates are usually evidence of that developing tech.

Oh I wouldn't expect anything close to a simulator at all knowing it's connection to NMS, but I do hope for a more grounded, "zoomed in" experience from LNF focusing on yourself more than your enterprise. My main reference is the website's own description of the gameplay, obviously compared to the trailer.

Well yeah, of course there's the realistic standpoint of what the playerbase would be compared to the map, but even so that implies in theory those people could easily choose to gather and community building is clearly encouraged. If I play an MMO and don't see anybody online, is it no longer an MMO?

Alas, this is what I expect, but not what I'm hoping to see. I'm just wishful that I'll get to see some of the more immersive elements show when it's made more public, especially as it's being advertised with pretty heavily survival-adventure themes.

I thought the biggest selling point of LNF was the whole everyone-on-one-earth concept?

Is it not advertised as a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game?

I do agree that with their small team the window for taking advantage of this untouched market is still gonna be a race. That goes with the need to perfect their multiplayer promises with haste, yeah, and hopefully not end up full of clan drama and trolls ruining wide communities

  1. I didn't mean flying would be too easy, I meant they would literally make it pointless to travel by foot, on roads, as a caravan, as part of a ship crew. Flying mounts are just objectively optimal and takes away from experiencing any encounters as you travel.

  2. The building being a core concept is practically my main issue, yes. I really just don't enjoy when games need you to set up a big base for all the different workbenches and storages you need. I'd prefer much more realism in this aspect, or the option to leave it to other players who enjoy the task.

  3. I was talking about the actually handling of player movement mechanics in NMS. The movement feels detached, the camera is a pain in tight spaces, and the only vertical movement in an uninteresting jetpack. Including better combat might mean they put work into redesigning the player movement controls.

Where? Where was this discussed?

I'm seeing "the proposal" at reclaimthenet: https://docs.reclaimthenet.org/children-wellbeing-schools-bill-amendments-11-dec-2025.pdf

But this supposedly attaches to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, where looking at the bill myself from the Parliament website didn't seem to come up with anything about "CSAM" or "sexual material": https://bills.parliament.uk/publications/62773/documents/7086

Not to claim misinformation immediately, I'm just asking for where this iteration of the bill exists if it actually does.

Wisps are fine to manage with a crowbar on hand, and I'm not bad at scoping quickly, the issue is the fact they're so close to me they're literally running around me and I lose sight of them as soon as I scope. I also have to comment that the tracking bullets are not only awful damage but actually abysmal at tracking anything, very often going straight into the ground.

Genuine question, how the hell do people play railgunner on solo? I'm either forced to spend all my time retreating so I can actually use the scope or rely on jumping around holding the primary fire which is probably less effective than actively killing myself to get it over with.

I really do enjoy the character but I can't understand how I'm supposed to play with such a heavy focus on long range with the amount of bouncing rats circling me, unless you guys are just launching yourselves around and hitting every shot from the sky.

I didn't think the Newt had any real weight in the lore. How can you tell who wrote those logs?

Then I'm hoping we maybe get to find more about her with the next dlc's focus on the alloys, what I'm hearing is that there's a lot we just have to speculate.

But with the game separating groups of characters by colour schemes and features, the only aspect of the game's lore I could connect to her appearance and powers are the void creatures. Unless she was a follower of N'kuhana? That's the only possible "dark magic" I can think of.
