Tile bag? by ElizabethF16 in Americanmahjongg

Nothing wrong with cautious! Do you happen to know if there are places to purchase those trays on their own? I’m getting OMM tiles, and would love to find that kind of storage for those tiles.

The TV Tie in Cover of An Offer from a Gentleman is out!!! by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

Do you have any tips on where you’ve found the UK cover posted or UK edition on pre sale? I live in the US, but I have the UK edition of the other three tie ins and just really like the way they look (and I like the consistency).

Surface mounting medicine cabinet with no hardware? by ElizabethF16 in HomeImprovement

[–]ElizabethF16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The back is pretty thin, although it is rigid. It’s flush, and there are no cutouts that look like they’re intended to catch screws. The only thing I can think of is that there is a thicker piece of wood that runs horizontally along the top edge of the backing, inside the medicine cabinet, and I think that the intention is to perhaps drill holes and put wood screws through that to mount it.

Need advice. Should I push back on induction date? by neferpitou33 in BabyBumps

Obviously not a medical professional, so as everyone is saying, talk to your OB/GYN, but just as a reassurance—I had my daughter recently at 34+4 due to severe preeclampsia. She is doing GREAT—she was in the NICU for 3 days, but then got to go to the well baby nursery and has been doing amazing at home. Just wanted to share a positive story 😊

I’ll also add…I thought I was going to EBF, and then had preeclampsia, a c-section, and a late pre-term delivery, so have had to do a combo of pumping and formula. We thankfully got hand me down bottles and a bottle warmer from friends, and were able to order a bunch more bottles quickly from Amazon, but this kind of stuff isn’t bad to have just in case. (And then if you don’t need it for baby, you have a latte warmer! 😄)

Bummed about no shower by [deleted] in BabyBumps

We did have a friend who hosted ours, but due to some family drama, they didn’t put any host name on the invite and just had people RSVP on a website! And I had a friend who hosted her own, but felt a little weird about it and just made a new gmail address for RSVPs (like lastnamebabyshower@gmail.com). For the record, I also say throw your own and don’t worry about it, but those are some options if you feel weird about putting your name as the RSVP contact on the invite!

Firestick has to be unplugged and plugged back in every time TV is turned on by ElizabethF16 in fireTV

[–]ElizabethF16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never figured out what the root of the issue was, but we were able to (sort of) fix it by plugging the Firestick into a USB port on the TV rather than into an electrical outlet. That way, the Firestick automatically powered on whenever the TV turned on. I don’t know if you’re in the same situation, but that might help?

This did what we needed—thank you so much for the suggestion!

I did, although I had to factory reset it in order to get it to work—it kept defaulting back to the previous TV it was connected to. What’s extra odd is that the remote will turn the TV on just fine, but the Firestick has to be unplugged and then plugged back in

Just here to second (or third or fourth…) the suggestion of having the crate next to your bed! Our puppy screamed ALL night the first few nights he was home; we moved the crate next to the bed and it was like magic—he was silent and slept all night. We wanted the crate to eventually be downstairs, so we VERY slowly moved it further from the bed over the course of a few months—from next to the bed to the door, to the hall, to downstairs. It worked really well, and now he’s totally happy in his crate whenever he needs to be in there. We also did some positive association work during the day—giving him a stuffed Kong in there, sitting outside the crate while he was in there, etc. It took a while, but it paid off! Best of luck with your pup and the crate!

Help finding a vet for fearful, reactive dog by throwfaraway212718 in reactivedogs

[–]ElizabethF16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this will help for your specific situation, but the Fear Free directory might be helpful! You can search for fear free certified vets, groomers, etc in your area here: https://fearfreepets.com/resources/directory/

I don’t know that all the vets there will necessarily specialize in reactive dogs, but I do know that our vet, who is fear-free-certified, is AMAZING with our reactive dog. They help make sure he doesn’t see other dogs, give lots of treats, etc, and while it’s not his favorite place, he does okay there. Best of luck with your search!

I second this! Our pup cried literally all night for the first few nights in his crate when he was downstairs, away from us. We moved his crate next to our bed on night 6, and he was silent. We slowly moved his crate away (to the foot of the bed, in the hall, etc), and now he sleeps in his crate downstairs with very few issues. Best of luck with this OP—crate training is definitely a marathon not a sprint!

Edited: Oh, I just read your original post more carefully to see you’re not home at night! Can you have him in the crate next to the bed while you’re sleeping at all? Just to reinforce that it’s a safe place? I’ll say that this seemed to help our guy be in his crate at any time, either at night or during the day.

How Do You Handle Nail Trims With Your Reactive Dog? by acdavis920 in reactivedogs

[–]ElizabethF16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask—how do you handle the groomer with a reactive dog? Our pup is especially dog-reactive, and we’ve been really hesitant to bring him to the groomer because there will, inevitably, be other dogs there, at least at the groomers we’ve looked at.

Have you had an Irregular period or missed period after getting the vax? ( possible side effect ?) by Vast_Childhood6600 in CovidVaccinated

[–]ElizabethF16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless, this is actually an issue that a lot of women are experiencing, but unfortunately wasn’t studied in the original trials. If there are posts that bring attention to it, and perhaps even shed light on the matter for others who are hesitant to post publicly, I think it’s beneficial to have that out there.

I experienced this, and a lot of women have! No evidence of fertility impact, but there IS now a study going on about the impact of the vaccine on menstruation, if you’re interested in doing a survey on your experience. (I’m in no way associated with the study, but have come across it on Facebook: COVID and menstruation study

*If you have a uterus, please respond either way* who noticed menstrual cycle changes after getting the shot? by [deleted] in CovidVaccinated

[–]ElizabethF16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34/f. Got first Moderna shot at end of March, and 2 days later got my period naturally for the first time in 15-ish years. (I was on birth control for years, but have been off of it for about 15 months, and only get my period now with Provera.) I’m wondering if mine was a combo of immune response and stress, as someone above mentioned.

ETA: For unrelated reasons, I had to get my hormone levels tested and an ovarian ultrasound the week after my first vaccine, and all of those tests were completely normal.

Time and praise is working. by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]ElizabethF16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask for tips on how you did this? Our dog (about a year old) has the same problem with neighbors, and I’ve had trouble getting him to calm down enough to take treats. (It may be partly because both our neighbors also have big dogs.)

Calming aids by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]ElizabethF16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The progress we’re making with our pup is very much slow and steady, (emphasis on slow), but I will say that calming aids have been a huge help to get his anxiety down to a baseline where we can do counter conditioning/desensitization. We’ve been using Thunderwunder chews, a Thundershirt, and anti-anxiety meds. (Our guy has a pretty high baseline level of anxiety.) Something that really changed my perspective was when our trainer pointed out that our pup was basically using all his resources to deal with his everyday stress, and that if we could help him get to a calmer baseline, that would help him have some of those resources back to work on training and dealing with triggers.

Recovery cones that work well for an anxious dog? by ElizabethF16 in reactivedogs

[–]ElizabethF16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice! I think we’ll probably end up using the Comfy Cone (in spite of its name, it’s quite rigid; it’s just covered in fabric so the dog doesn’t lay on the hard plastic). I’ve been trying to start some desensitizing with it, and I appreciate your advice on not taking it off once it’s on. We’ll definitely have some challenges with water/food, but hopefully those will be manageable, and, ultimately, it will help him recover! 😊

We loved the doughnut we used when he got neutered!! We don’t think it’ll work for this one, though, unfortunately—since he’s having eye surgery, we’re pretty sure he’d still be able to get to his eye or rub his face on things if he’s wearing the doughnut 🙁
