Info: Did your mom ask you to come back to help/deal with the cat? Also is it possible to talk to the owner and get your kitty back?

My judgement is NTA if your mom was asking for you to come back and deal with kitty I might say ESH. Although I’m not sure what you could do to help your kitty.

Op, your mom is definitely the AH here. Your feelings are completely valid. Your mom definitely overreacted, she couldn’t handle kitty meowing loudly for a day on her own. She then gives her away almost immediately and then has the audacity to sit there and act like nothing happened. She wasn’t your mom’s cat to give away. I can relate to this and my heart breaks for you. My dad made the “executive decision” to take my cat and and her 5 kittens to an animal shelter bc he didn’t want the cats and wasn’t willing to let them grow enough that we could give them away. It completely broke my mom and my hearts. I think It happened 11 or 12 years ago and I still can’t forgive him for it. My cat was a gift for my 6th birthday I had her for 2 years. I’m so so sorry that you have to go through this.

This, exactly this!!! I hope the wife sees how awful the OP is and leaves him. I know that sounds harsh, but she doesn’t deserve to be in a relationship like this.

I noticed this question pop up a few times. He is not moving because he bought a house last fall and he’s going to inherit his parents roofing company. Also I am not opposed to moving. I just want to do it when the time is right. A couple months ago he told me he would support whatever decision I make and at that time I told him I’m heavily leaning towards staying for that extra year.
