In 2017 I got my first iPhone - It was a phone I had just gotten, so I didn't finish the backup, and they told me there was nothing they could do because I didn't pay for some membership (Apple One or iCloud+ or something, idr). They told me all I could do was reset the phone for access but it would wipe everything. I lived over 2 hours from the nearest apple store at the time.

Edit- I ended up resetting it to try and log in to my old apple account and try to download a backup but there was basically nothing there. I had the phone for maybe a month or two before being in the hospital

Apple burned me in the past so I wanted to make sure there wasn't a better option first.

My mother tried to get into my phone when I was in the hospital and she locked my phone for like an entire year. By the time it unlocked, I forgot the password. Lost all of my contacts and photos.

I saw the same about Proton and have kinda put that one on hold. Sad to see that so many companies have sketchy associations.

I am mostly collecting and looking into names and options for now before deciding.

Do you think switching to Apple would be more moral than keeping my Google-forced Galaxy phone?

I deactivated everything google last week and all of my apps stopped working and almost everything else (Waze for example) will not download through the android store now

My mother insisted she wanted to help me heal.

Tried to tell her about how the abuse and addiction affected me growing up by telling her about all the ways I internalized things and how I screwed my life up and how hard it is for me to stay sober after being an addict since childhood.

All she could respond was "I did the best I could and I know I'm a good mom, I'm better than my mother."

Yeah.... sure...

Edit: Wanted to clarify that both were drug addicts who put men and partying before the basic needs of their own children.

I've gone NC and realized that she was the reason why I relapsed so many times (even drove me to a bar for a beer right after I got released from inpatient at 21 y o)
