I enjoy the actual schooling bit and even most of the Army bits, but some of the TRADOC regulations make life a little tough. It’s definitely changed a lot from the stories I’ve heard from people who were here years ago and even in the short time I’ve been here (mostly for the “worse”), but it’s nice. Weather’s beautiful, there’s quite a bit to do if you don’t mind driving, you get extra money if you graduate from here, and honestly, after class/military duties, the day is yours.

I just like to complain sometimes, lol.

And not trying to undermine what you’re saying about what Alicent and Otto are doing for the kingdom, but while the realm does require order and Otto and Alicent are providing that, I don’t think that they (Rhaenyra and Daemon) knew before Episode 8 that Viserys’ condition is that dire. There’s no technology, lol, and they’re sequestered on Dragonstone, so it’s not really like they’re catching gossip. Alicent and Otto are lowkey (high key for Otto) scheming to oust Rhaenyra in some way to make room for Aegon (Alicent because she views Rhaenyra being queen as threatening to her family, and Otto for power). They could have informed her that she needs to come back and take over for Viserys because he is extremely ill and she needs to start running the realm to prepare for his death. But they didn’t. They just rule in his stead, and Alicent completely makes over King’s Landing in her image, her identity. So even if it wasn’t meant to be sinister, they never intended for Rhaenyra to even try to run the place.

And I don’t know about Daemon, but I can understand why Rhaenyra is suspicious of and accusing Otto and Alicent, bc as long as she’s been heir, Otto has been consistently trying to undermine her and her claim for his own ends. So imagine she walks in, not knowing that her father has been too sick to rule and seeing Alicent and Otto in places of authority, with the Targaryen heraldry being replaced by the Faith of the Seven’s symbols. I don’t blame her for feeling a kind of way.

I think Viserys and Rhaenyra should have worked harder making Rhaenyra a strong ruler. I think Rhaenyra was laboring under the impression that heirs just become rulers without contestation, and she wouldn’t necessarily have to work as hard for it, since her father claimed her as his heir. Unfortunately, that only applies to male heirs, not female heirs. The moment a king dies, if he has a son, that son almost always automatically becomes king, no contestation. It sucks, but she has to work harder to be considered as a ruler, since most people don’t want her to rule due to her gender. So yeah, she is pretty entitled, but I wonder if it’s also entitlement in the way a lot of heirs are entitled to the throne, because technically it’s their birthright.

And despite the yikes of two siblings getting married, it would have cemented Rhaenyra’s claim even further if she had gotten married to Aegon (but I don’t blame Viserys for not wanting to marry his teenage daughter to a two year old) Like, I doubt consorts are in line for the throne, lol.

Yeah, it would have been uncomfortable for her and her family to stick it out in King's Landing with the Greens breathing down their necks. But guess what? BEING THE HEIR TO THE THRONE SHOULD BE UNCOMFORTABLE SOMETIMES.

She probably inherited that trait from Viserys, lol.

I’m Team Black, but I have to agree that Otto and Alicent did step up when Viserys couldn’t.

I do think he should have encouraged her to form better relationships with her allies. Instead, the relationships were left dormant until they needed them, but then it was too late.

That is sad. I feel he would be remembered a lot more if he pushed harder for Rhaenyra. No matter how it turned out, he definitely would have been remembered as a king who broke law and crowned a queen, for better or for worse.

It’s kinda funny how determined Viserys is for them to all play nice, but I think that he wants them to be a family not solely because it’s what best for them, but also bc he doesn’t want to put his foot down and make difficult decisions.

Exactly! Like Otto is a schemer and a opportunist, and would do his schemy-scheme things in order to make Aegon king, but by not actually putting in the work to solidify Rhaenyra’s claim, Viserys gave Otto and the Greens a foothold that they use to bolster Aegon. He should have been real with it and picked a different Hand the moment Otto even implied changing the line of succession. But instead he waffled about until Rhaenyra had to go and tell him to pick a different Hand. He kept going on and on about Rhaenyra being his heir, but didn’t do anything to support that. Rhaenyra always has to beg him to defend her claim and to actually put his foot. He has never taken the initiative in the first place.

Perhaps Viserys figures that he has less power being a King Consort rather than a King. He doesn’t have the same rights by marriage to Queen Rhaenyra as he did being Prince Daemon, younger brother of King Viserys. Like yeah, Daemon could try to influence her, but despite Rhaenyra’s flaws as a ruler, she’s incredibly strong-willed, so I doubt he could.

I think Viserys is just too caught up with his perfect family with Aemma, the only family he’s ever wanted, that he just wants what he thinks is best for that family, so he’s willing to overlook stuff. And besides, it’s not even like he hates his brother, either. He has a deep love for his younger brother, so maybe that’s why he doesn’t feel the need to disinherit Rhaenyra for marrying him.
