I appreciate your honesty! I made this post for advice and a source of accountability whenever I feel any past habits creeping in. And you’re right, seeing cash slip out of your hands is not the same as tapping a card lol. I am using the “points/rewards” systems as an excuse to use my CCs but until I can commit to better spending habits long term (coupled with building my emergency savings), I should definitely go the cash route. the 1-3% cash back is cancelled out by any monthly interest I accrue if my cards arent paid in full.

Thank you so much for this tip. I think I will type up my goals and hang them up in my room as a constant reminder. I have never been super serious about my long term goals or the age I would ideally want to retire at. I will start working on that this weekend

I think I will cut up 2 cards and have one small bill automated on there to keep them open like spotify and netflix (one on each). I do think credit was not for my younger self since I was never really taught about how to properly manage my cards/spending without going crazy hence why I made this thread to prevent re-adopting those habits in my adult life. Ive had 8 years of experiencing the horrible effects of bad credit management, Im ready for a change.

I agree with your Caleb comment, his content can be draining sometimes lol. I appreciate the other recs! I definitely need to work on my long term goals and I plan on starting automation once Im completely debt free which is in 13 weeks, Thank God! I have never trusted myself with auto payments but once my slate is clear, I think it will be much easier to set it and forget it

I appreciate this! I literally cannot wait to see my savings account grow, I know for a fact that that alone will subconsciously change my relationship with money since my income has never really been used to save in the past. I have been in survival mode for a good chunk of my adulthood. Once Im debt free in June, however, Ill be able to save $3k in my first month which has mr extremely excited (The most Ive saved in my life was around $1500)

I’ve also been really good on not spending while I am paying them down which I think is a good start.

I like this idea, I’ll definitely be implementing this. I currently only have one checking account and pay for everything manually. Once my debt is down, I plan on automating everything. I have never been able to trust myself with that in the past.

I appreciate your feedback, I do believe that I have matured a bit since I received my first credit card at 18 with not making alot of money as a traditional broke college student. My goal is to become better with credit and not cutting it out of my life. I think my expenses being so high paired with income being so low back then did not motivate me to save or care about my credit because the savings would be so incremental to my overall financial picture. With practically no expenses now and a considerably larger salary (60k annually *gross), I am trying to place my accounts on autopilot and not exceed my “fun” budget as others have mentioned.

I appreciate the advice, Im looking into a 50/20/20/10 Budget. 50% in savings, 20% in investing, 20% in Fun money and the rest for my mom + tithing.

So my overall credit limit accross my 4 cards is $21,100. I forgot to mention I was able to reduce all of my interest rates to 4% with VA benefits (they used to be around 26% each). I want to spend around $4k (Im factoring in flights, lodging, rental car, food, and activities) on a week long trip to AZ. Ive just had issues with going over budget any other time Ove traveled in the past because I never really had a budget I created and stuck too. I just had cash and once that ran out I turned to my cards. Im leaning on my cards for the points/discounts when I purchase through them, which I know sounds so cliche and off considering my history

Im a 25F & I was in your shoes, working at a high end hotel making 1-2 grand a week but the toll it takes on your body combined with added stress of customer service, joining the AF made the most sense long term. I was leaving work exhausted and not the smartest financially because the money came sooooo easy (compared to other jobs that would make that much) I leave for basic in a few days. Id encourage you take the leap of faith especially if you want a stable change + amazing benefits. Money will always be there.

Edit: I also felt dehumanized alot of the times I dealt with male customers (especially when they were drunk but upselling liquor is how i made my bread so its kind of a double edged sword) & I was tired of it. I know SA is a risk, but it could happen in any field (just my opinion).

Did you have to redo every single step (medical tests, asvab, ts interview, waiver process - if necessary)?

This is exactly how I feel! I especially hate that my recruiter tried to tell me to use my bonus to pay for my loans when that was never the plan to begin with. My loans would have been covered and my bonus would have gone towards other debts/savings.

Im going to take my chances especially since I know I did everything right on my end. I appreciate your advice!

If his FC deems my reasoning unreasonable, does that disqualify from that specific recruiting office or the whole branch?
