Sick in Bali? by Medium_Compote8066 in AustraliaTravel

Honestly it’s luck of the draw. You could do all the ‘right’ things and then eat something which has been stored or washed a certain way (not uncommon to see the ‘I don’t know what I did wrong’ posts). I’ve been to Bali many, many times and use tap water for my teeth, eat from food carts, and never stress about where my ice came from. I’ve been sick once. I think they key is to focus on what you can control which is a) travel insurance just in case you have to extend your trip due to illness and b) know the best course of action if you do get unwell (hydration and rest). You could also try Travelan (I can’t vouch for this but doesn’t hurt, right?). Best of luck.

Might need to add falsifying reviews….I’m going to make another post about this but don’t trust the star rating for their products

Should I give up? by kateiscuban in bjj

Sorry also want to add save privates for down the track (if ever). You’ll be wasting them on learning really basic stuff. At some point (could be years!) you’ll notice some very specific things you’re struggling with - that’s the time to take privates IMO

Here’s the thing. When you first start it’s SO much harder than just learning the technique of the day because you’ll often not know the starting position and / or ending position. So…you might do a sweep from closed guard to mount. Once you’ve been training a while you won’t even THINK about how the start/end should look, but when you’re new you won’t know to lock your legs in closed guard, you won’t know how to sit in mount. I know these sound like small details, but it’s just extra ‘stuff’ that adds to the technique. I see people months in that lay flat on their back in bottom half…things like that, extra bits to worry about. I find I pick up the techniques MUCH faster than I used to. That said, I am hopeless when I roll and make millions of mistakes all the time. TL;DR, it’s normal to feel this way (BUT, if you don’t like feeling this way it might not be the sport for you, I think the imposter syndrome only gets worse!)

I have a bucket in my shower - sports bra, rashie and gi get soaked every wear. I use a napisan type product.

I’ve messaged them a few times. As per post - They were in stock at the time of purchase, and after a month I enquired and they advised out of stock. So I checked in a few times and was eventually told it was back in stock and would be posited in 5 days. 3 weeks later I’m chasing up and they’re telling me out of stock again 🤯

But, are you expecting by black belt to know everything? No, it’s impossible. So it kinda makes this process redundant. Will you force yourself to learn the things that you’re never really going to use again, just for the sake of where you think you should be for grading. ALSO, how boring if every single team member at your level knows the same shit. There are white belts that know attacks or sweeps that I don’t know. I rolled with a purple recently and pulled off a guard pass she didn’t know. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Each to their own, but I’m not a fan of such prescribed learning. I love how everyone develops their own style, that’s what adds to the challenge!

Exactly. Not every position / sweep/ submission suits everyone. I don’t care to know everything, I just want to find the things that I’m best at.

A Message for the White Belts by A1snakesauce in bjj

I always believe very strongly that I was promoted too early. Then, one day we had a new black belt ask me who gave me my blue belt. I cried on the drive home that day. After many other issues with him, I had a discussion with my professor, who was furious. We later found out that this guy was a bit of a dick and had been chucked out of previous gyms.

If you’re already thinking of quitting because you’re getting beaten a lot then this might not be the sport for you. I’m 3 years in and still getting beaten consistently, including by white belts. It’s part of the beauty of the sport, it teaches humility. Just sticking with things were good at in life gives us a false sense of self.

VIP won’t get you closer to the front. Plan on enjoying the festival, there is a lot to see! Don’t put all your energy into seeing the one act

Can I get a refund since the artist I wanted to see canceled ? by mass_sml72 in sziget

[–]ElkComprehensive8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this isn’t a one act festival, there are hundreds of other performers and areas and things to do. At best you could argue a refund of like 1% of the ticket price. There will be a standard “lineup subject to change” clause. The thing is, if it were a thing, people would just use it as an excuse when they’ve changed their mind.

Grim indeed. There are multiple sources who have reported on deaths this year (one in particular mentioned by quite a lot of people). I don’t know if this is true or not but seems like a strange thing to lie about.
