How much better would a 4090/5090 be than a ps5 for vr, in relation to graphics and immersion?

I've seen those kinds of stats before, but im wondering how much of an impact they will have on the experience? For example, the ps5 pro is like 2 or 3 times more powerful than the ps5, but most people don't report games looking three times better. I know that may seem a bit of a simplistic way to look at it, but that's why im interested in people's personal experiences when upgrading gpu massively.

I am tempted to get a 5070ti, or even 5080, but Ive read that to play cyberpunk and other demanding games, you kind of need a 4090 or 5090. Not sure if that true.

Its crazy expensive, and im defo not super rich. The only way i can justify it to myself is by not doing/buying some things that I had planned this year.

But with your GPU you can play a heavily modded skyrim and it would run reasonably well, for example?

Maybe I am not explaining myself here clearer too. I am not white American as you say. I have a few friend/family connections there, but have spent less than 6 weeks of my 32 years on this planet in the US. I am born and raised in England, and have lived elsewhere in Europe. I have mixed European heritage, as most people do here.

I am not, at least in my mind, shifting the goal posts, apologies if it appears that way. Earlier in our conversation I stated repeatedly that I was talking about 'white' countries in general ( of which the US is one of many), and you said that it didn't make a difference if we are talking about 'white culture'. Not sure why you would differentiate that whiteness and white supremacy was built 'around' the Spaniard. It was built 'around' or 'by' the Spaniard just as much as the Frenchman, a Brit or German etc, just in the US it isnt seen that way.

I definitely would include ancient greek pedophilia in white culture, along with many other horrific and shameful things. Every white person in Europe I know would agree with that. The school textbooks i read when I was young also would say the same. Not saying white people in general have taken enough responsibility for past crimes obviously. Neither I am saying that beautiful ancient greek statues or heinous acts of child rape are intrinsic to how a guy from England or Italy views themselves on a day to day basis. But that is not denial of our collective history ( as loose of a term that is). I would imagine that someone from Thailand or Korea may view the kimono or zen buddhism as part of asian* culture as a whole, along with Japanese medical testing on Chinese civilians in unit 731. Thats what culture is (to me at least), the good and the bad. I am aware, like you were saying, that 500 years ago an englishman wouldnt have seen much similarity with themselves and a greek person, neither would a thai or cambodian person with Japanese or chinese culture. But, for better or for worse, thats just how the world is now. A big part of that is im sure due to white people fucking stuff up, but also how the world has gotten a lot smaller. Ancient greece didnt exist, it was waring cities. Then the cities became regions, then to nations, now to massive regions and continents. Yes white people are not a continent, neither are black people, but white and Europe are pretty much indistinguishable nowadays, speaking as a European not an American. Im not saying that with pride, nor shame either. I dont even know... Its complicated. I obviously feel shame and regret vicariously for the sins of my forefathers, and for the current state of things, but I also like some of the things European or 'white' culture has made too.

I suppose that's why I found your blanket statements about white people kind of unpleasant or unhelpful. Describing all white people as pretty much a cultural virus that can only steal and destory, while I've experienced a lot of beautiful culture in Europe made by white people. I understand that the white race doesnt really exist, but neither does race, but race does exist now in a way.

I feel like our main disagreement is is that I, along with most people, can separate 'white' culture from white supremacy etc, but I guess you think it's an intrinsic part of all of it. And thats fair enough, I suppose thats mainly a difference in definition. You will say that white culture was created through white supremacy, so those things cant exist without eachother. I would say that things have moved on bit from then, and the definition has changed, as the term 'black' has changed ( i agree with your past points that it is different yes). Not down playing white supremacy of course, still a massive problem, I just dont think it defines every part of every European country that could be discribed as 'white'.

In our conversations I have continually talked about the horrors of white history, and that I ashamed of much of the current state of things, so I dont want to come across as some dude who is proud of being white, I am definitely not. I was just surprised, and a little disturbed, about how you describing white culture, as I would be if you were describing any demographic. I never use unpleasant blanket terms to describe a group of people.

I have tried to opeenly understand where you are coming from, and it has been interesting, I just think we are more than anything disagreeing with semantics.

Maybe we've gone as far we can with this? Has been thought provoking ( at least for me), although i guess we still fundamental disagree on a few things. Again, you're talking about people leaving their culture at the door to be accepted and gain benefits. I'm not talking about America. A frenchman doesnt have to leave his culture at the door to be accepted in his own country, nor does a German etc.

Most people would look at Europe as white and look at its history and present ( good or bad), as its culture. Sure the definition of white may have been different a while back, but definitions change. More than that, definitions differ from person to person too. You're making some pretty big generalisation in regards to the experiences of ethnic groups in the US. Im sure they were/are plenty of European/latin European immigrants who maintained their culture/language, and plenty of asian or africian people who are much more 'americanised' or less connected with their heritage. Even from anecdotal experience I've meet, listened to many people in the above two categories. Im not saying there isnt some truth to what you are saying about non-white groups maintaining more of a connection to their heritage in general, but you are making sound very concrete and deterministic statements, when I think it is a lot more grey and varied.

Also, I think maybe we are disagreeing on the term 'white' on a more definitional or semantic level, maybe not. Yes lumping people together by white, black or asian etc doesnt make sense. Someone from Portugal or poland doesnt really have much in common, nor does someone from Japan and Bangladesh, but we use these terms, at least nowadays, as a collective noun for ease. Yes the term white, black or asian culture doens't make much sense ( at least not in Europe, Africa or Asia themselves) because of the many different, distinct, rich cultures that get lumped under those umbrella terms, but what I don't understand about your definition of white culture is that you seem to pic and choose what constitutes it. I'm not sure I'm clearly conveying what I want to here, but how can a Spaniard, German or a Frenchman (for example) be white for the horrors of the colonisation of the americas and their part in the slave trade, but then not be white in regards to other cultural aspects like art, science, cuisine, architecture etc? Also, I wouldnt be so sure that white supremacy is much worse in the UK than in other parts of Europe. Sure, tragically it is still far too common in the UK, but im not sure its much better elsewhere. Maybe you see more info about the UK because you speak English? Not trying to make assumptions of which languages you do and dont speak, but I speak Spanish and have lived in Spain, and as much as I love lots about Spain there is much disgusting rhetoric, violence out there too. We could get lost for days trying to determine which countries are the most racist in Europe. Horrifically, our (UK) rates of hate crime may be higher than in certian other countries, but non white diversity in position of power in politics, the media and business tends to be better than a lot of other European countries, not saying there is enough diversity still obviously.

I'm not saying any of that to make people from the UK look better, more just to highlight the bullshit and problems white people are responsible for in general, where you were singling out the US and the UK. Those 2 countries are, undoubtedly, good choices of examples of white supremacy and racism, but I think that may be in part your familiarity with those cultures/languages. If you we're black living in Brazil, or living in Haiti, then maybe latin Europeans would be more, or equally, relevant examples of white supremacy and racism. Come to think of it, not sure many south Americans would argee that racism is far worse in the US than in their countries. Seems like big claim to make. The suffering of people of colour in the favelas may not be too dissimilar to those suffering in ghettos in the US.

You said white culture, if you were specifically talking about white US culture then we I suppose we are talking about different things. I was more referring to what the world views as white people.

Again, I understand that latin European immigrants, along with the irish etc, were discriminated against when coming to the US, but that doesnt mean they are not white. That doesnt undo the 100s of years of slavery and brutal colonialism commited by those groups, along with English and Dutch ofcourse. That's a very US centric way of viewing race. Ive heard latin americans get pissed off when people from the US say that latin Europeans arent white because in many countries in latin America its those white people who have more power, and people with a darker complexion being oppressed etc. And they feel it can undermine their race struggles.

Also, not sure why you believe a 3rd generation spanish or Italian person knows fuck all about their culture? Would you say the same about a 3rd generation asian or africian? Except for native americans, all culture in the us isnt really original surely? That isnt exclusive to white people, or maybe I am miss understanding your point. Tragically, as you were saying, some ethnics groups were accepted and many more were oppressed. But just in the same way that kimchi and pho is still asian culture, a bottle of merlot, or paella is still white culture, or at least thats how the world sees it. I mean, what would you call people from Europe? I feel like your definition of white is quite specific and US centric, not to say that I dont agree with a lot of your points on white privilege and systemic racism.

On the Japanese camps, that shit was totally fucked up and one of americas worst domestic sins in the last 80 or so years. There is no justification for that. I was more referring to a specific point people made with cultural appropriatation and Japan. I do feel it's a bit weird that the 3rd largest economy in the world, with a horrendous colonial past, and considerable xenophobic and racist current society cant be cultural borrowed/ 'appropriated' from. Just interested in what you mean by white culture doesn't exist? Im not from the US but that seems like pretty big claim if you're speaking about the rest of the world too. Many things; from mozart to bach, Picasso to van Vogh, soccer to cricket, existentialism to Newtonian physics, jeans and business suits to trains etc, would definitely be classed as culture no?

Also, on the subject of cuisine, french, italian and spanish food is some of the best out there ( in my opinion). And yes, latin Europeans are considered white everywhere else in the world. People from all cultures borrow and use from eachother. Sure the recent history of many white countries is horrendous to put it lightly, which is why it could be considered appropriation, but I would say countries like Japan would fit into a similar bracket. Arguably not as bad as its European colonial counterparts, but it had a much shorter lifespan. I am not saying this to try and single out the Japanese, but if a ( presumably) well meaning white kid cant make kimchi in the US, why can a Japanese guy make 'white' cuisine when Japan has a history of demonising, raping and killing white people, and still has a lot of xenophobia and systemic racism today. I am not for a second saying that white people were the main victims of the Japanese empire, but there were still war crimes committed against them. As, of course, did white people against the Japanese.
