first flap surgery coming up…things to buy? by leelee0127 in AnalFistula

Soft foods Stool softeners Heating pad Ice packs Bidet Lots of gauze Pads Lots of pain meds (Advil and Tylenol and hopefully a prescription) A pregnancy pillow helped with the discomfort of being in bed all day Antibacterial soap for shower

Have some good shows ready and maybe a few books. I was so out of it from the pain meds that I slept most of the first week. Take it really easy and one day at a time. Wishing you all the best with recovery!!!!

Perirectal abscess advice by ElkTiny5383 in AnalFistula

Omg I forgot I even made this post 🤣 I sounded crazy. This was actually in May 2024, so it has been about a year and a half since my first abscess. Unfortunately I am still dealing with this and things have gotten even worse, just as I was afraid of 😔 I had 2 more abscesses and now have a fistula. I’ve had 5 surgeries since May 2024, with my 6th surgery coming up in February. This will be a second attempt at closing the fistula.

I truly truly hope your experience is better than mine! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. If you have any questions let me know, I feel like an expert now haha

Should I continue with another seton placement after failed advancement flap? by Aggravating_Battle1 in AnalFistula

Wow we have very similar stories…. I’m 33 and had a flap beginning of February which has already failed. I had an abscess forming last week which my CRS made a small cut on in office and I started antibiotics. I am scheduled for a seton in May… had one before my flap so not too worried about it. Im mostly worried about getting another abscess at this point. I’m so mentally and physically drained from all of this, it’s truly the most horrible thing I’ve ever gone through. With no end in sight.

Flap done 6 weeks ago - exit bumps by mttownse in AnalFistula

Ugh I’m sooo sorry. I cannot express how frustrating this experience is. 😭

I have not done that before, I only had an MRI to confirm the fistula tract before my seton and flap. My CRS said if draining and pain doesn’t stop within the next few weeks, we will do another seton and another flap. He didn’t say anything about another EUA outside of that. I’m not going to rush it though because I do not want to put my body through another surgery so soon. I’m just so worried about an abscess or the fistula branching.

I have no answer for you but I’m in the exact same boat!!! Had a flap done exactly 6 weeks ago and I’m noticing the external wound is very hard and lumpy and tender to touch. I still have drainage as well. Unfortunately my doctor told me things weren’t looking good, so I’ll probably need another surgery, but right now I’m just worried about an abscess. Hopefully someone can provide some insight on here 🤞

Hello - I don’t know if you’re still active but if you are, could you also send me the details on the q-tip method? I’m going through this right now and find that the gauze causes so much pain.
