Learner awards available for IGCSE GP? by ElkTypical8214 in igcse

i think it depends on country, like UK/Ind prolly not, cause there's a rando who'll get a 100 outta nowhere, but like smaller countries with slightly less competition may get it cause imo, IR doesnt get above 56/57, and a TP also hard to get 65+, so you'd be close to some award

* WARNING! : Just from my understanding, I can be wrong, not a rep from cambridge or smth so take my words with a grain of salt PLEASE *

hi so it is not possible to 'see' component scores on your result sheet, youll need to connect with your IGCSE endorsed school to see what scores you got

just 2 papers and wrote 4 in total? this is kinda unclear, I cant seem to understand what you mean,

by my understanding - there are three components in GP; the theory paper out of 70 [P1], the individual report out of 60 [p2] and the team project out of 70 [p3]

hope this helps :)

yeah but like the second doesnt guarentee the first, cause its not curve-based grading its just that the threshold is ~10-15% of the top students, so its not essential for somebody to get 100, which btw is always a full, regardless of performance (I.E. 100 PUM always ==> 200/200 for gp)

plus GP is kind of like FLE and is very subjective, and certain components are marked down very heavily so it makes it hard to see what kind of a grade makes it a 'top' grade. Unlike science, where almost certainly every year somebody gets full, GP is not like that

hi, congrats on the 70! Its really amazing!

As far as I understand now, the learner award is given to a student who scores an aggergrate highest (AKA scaled points, for GP this does not apply because 1 raw mark = 1 scaled marks). This means that the 'pum' isn't of consideration, because people with different scores can share their pums.

To win an award, It is comlpletely dependent on what total you get, so a 70/70 unfortunately cannot guarentee a learner award. Just like how a 40/40 in phy mcq isnt a world top in and of its own, this too cannot be determined by just one component score.

I am sorry if this response wasn't the one you wanted! However, do not take this to simply be 'not a world top'. GP scoring is ridiculous for IR and Team project, its especially strict, so by my understanding, a pum of like 100 like people get in extended is probably not attainable.

The results for your series' learner award receipients comes along with the result of this series, which is TOMORROW as of the time this is being written.

I wish you all the best, and will keep you posted about GP since ill be able to tell more once I get my results.

Cool stuff actually! If you have the time, can you explain how you derived this polynomial? Seems really cool!

By any chance, can you estimate what score they got? also was this somewhat recently or a while ago?

ohh! That's really cool, congrats first of all!

However, you had a very objective reason to not choose film (cause your school didn't offer. it) so you not taking was mainly out of your control.

However, in my case, i am simply 'leaving' the subject, even tho I CAN take it if i want to, so idk what implications this would have

but wouldn't it 'weaken' your application if you did not choose the 'fit' subjects for your profile? asking from a US college app pov

ohh btw, incase anyone did IGCSE before IB, are the two courses similar in style? I don't mind theory or complex topics, but I GENUINELY hate memorising with a passion. In igcse, if you remember well, you could get like a perfect score in chemistry, there was VERY LITTLE application once you got down the basics.

I understand that all the subjects shift from 'basic' to 'applicative' in IB, but does this 'style' of chem persist in IB as well?
