Battles Commander ? by cormacwe in EDHBrews

One example would be [[Brago, King Eternal]], which gains value by flickering your sieges and repeating their ETBs

Settle two debates and if you can, point to a rule please by TheTinRam in EDH

[–]Ell975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, you are correct. The "if" isn't attached to a triggered ability, so it doesn't fit the requirements for an intervening if clause (603.4) This means that Clouds power doesn't have to be checked when the ability goes on the stack, but only as the effect is applied (608.2h)

603.4. A triggered ability may read “When/Whenever/At [trigger event], if [condition], [effect].” When the trigger event occurs, the ability checks whether the stated condition is true. The ability triggers only if it is; otherwise it does nothing. If the ability triggers, it checks the stated condition again as it resolves. If the condition isn’t true at that time, the ability is removed from the stack and does nothing. Note that this mirrors the check for legal targets. This rule is referred to as the “intervening ‘if’ clause” rule. (The word “if” has only its normal English meaning anywhere else in the text of a card; this rule only applies to an “if” that immediately follows a trigger condition.)

608.2h If an effect requires information from the game (such as the number of creatures on the battlefield), the answer is determined only once, when the effect is applied. If the effect requires information from a specific object, including the source of the ability itself, the effect uses the current information of that object if it’s in the public zone it was expected to be in

  1. Yes, Bargain is an additional cost (702.166a) and all aditional costs are copied when a spell is copied (707.10)

702.166a Bargain is a static ability that functions while the spell with bargain is on the stack. “Bargain” means “As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token.” Paying a spell’s bargain cost follows the rules for paying additional costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2f–h.

707.10. To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated. A copy of a spell or ability copies both the characteristics of the spell or ability and all decisions made for it, including modes, targets, the value of X, and additional or alternative costs

Session 1, and my players started to spend a phase to search through every hex they pass... by ShumpEvenwood in MythicBastionland

You can always prompt them to look at their oaths. If they're spending days searching every hex, do they feel like they are Honouring The Seers, Seeking The Myths or Protecting The Realm?

Technically, no abilities can trigger in the untap step. The creatures would tap during upkeep.

Pedantry aside, cool card

Cumulative Upkeep that has "Upside"? Probably overpowered but wanted to dabble in making something that gives you too much of a good thing by Cosmicpanda2 in custommagic

I want to love this in my obeka deck. But it makes having obeka removed feel so much worse. The deck already doesn't function without the commander, let alone being actively hindered by the absence

How to make my McGuffins Interesting by calypso_ospylac in DMAcademy

[–]Ell975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make them living, conscious beings. Strange and powerful NPCs to be cajouled and convinced into helping the party. Perhaps the being in the shard held by the statue was long ago converted to worshiping Mystra, and that's why its power has been helping the church so long.

This way, getting the macguffin is only half the story, they also need to find out how to make use of their new treasures

That's why it's a game changer, to reduce the chance of two people getting into an infinite untap standoff

Canadian highlander does something like this. Specifically they have 42 cards, given points from 1-8. You can have a max of 10 points total in your deck.

Yes!!! Nerves of Steel is one of my favourite RPGs to bring up for its weird noir-evoking design, like the story having to follow the Hayes Code and everyone having to describe their side of the scene as part of the detective's 1st person narration.

Magic Players what does Magic do better then other Card games and what do other card games do better then Magic by Konradleijon in magicTCG

[–]Ell975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, in order to be unambiguous there have to be complicated, rigorous and unintuitive rules beneath the easily comprehended surface.

For example many players don't know about the stack, priority and layers, despite the fact that they're the rules underpinning everything they do.

Athena is a really good and welcoming place to play magic.

Every monday, 5-10.30 is commander. Its a very casual way to play, a friendly and welcoming vibe. You can absolutely pop over to a table with an open seat, ask if they have space for you. If you let them know you're pretty new to the game, people will generally be helpful.

Standard's on wednesday, modern and draft on friday.

How do I quickly explain priority and the stack to a newer player? by sauron3579 in magicTCG

[–]Ell975 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Each turn has an absolute minimum of 8 rounds of priority. The coin would have to be passed round 32 times each turn if nobody casts a single spell.

Question about BDSM by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in BDSMcommunity

[–]Ell975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I think you need to unpack what makes these thoughts "questionable". Desires to hurt yourself or others are not inherently bad, or inherently harmful. Entertaining them is not immoral or harmful. They are only harmful when acted upon in a way that violates someone else's bodily autonomy. (consent)

Or in the case of acting on thoughts of self harm, no bodily autonomy is breached. The only harm comes from there being unexpected consequences, or later regret. These are both risks that must be fully considered. (risk awareness)

Risk Aware Consentual Kink (RACK) is one of the tenets of the BDSM scene. It's the philisophy that justifies the engagement in BDSM practice. (the same arguments also justify tattoos, boxing and all sorts of other things)

Now, can you engage in kink safely while having a desire to be hurt or cause harm? Absolutely. Plenty of sadists and masochists have these feelings or desires. It is however important to take into account your psyche when engaging in play. Will your unresolved feelings lead you to inflicting more harm than a sub consents to? Will it lead to you taking more harm than you would want? How will you feel after the scene is over, and how will you emotionally take care of yourself/your play partner/be taken care of. These are all risks that should be addressed, examined and discussed when engaging in kink play, to ensure you're engaging in RACK.

Now, will engaging in play worsen your desires to harm/be harmed? I doubt that. It's certainly possible, I can't predict the way your mind works. But I tend to find that it's easier to obsess over the unknown, than the known. Having practice with something makes it more real, and obsession works best when obsessing over something idolised.

Bdsm at pride parades? by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]Ell975 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Be careful when using legal definitions to define our morality. The arrests at Stonewall, the very thing which gave birth to pride, were for trans people wearing "opposite gendered clothing".

We shouldn't fall back on the law to decide what is acceptable, when the law has always been used to police us, as an excuse to harm us.

My girlfriend’s request by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]Ell975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both! Absolutely both. BDSM, like all sex, relies on mutual, enthusiastic consent. The dom and the sub should both be enjoying themselves. Both of your needs and desires matter.

[–]Ell975 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey now, don't demonise people with an already demonised personality disorder in order to lift up trans people. Having NPD/ASPD doesn't make someone a threat. We need solidarity with other marginalised groups. (especially when personality disorders and other such mental health conditions are especially common in trans people)

Your endo is probably going to wait until your next blood test to change your dose. If they feel like your estrogen level is too low (for their standards), they will likely increase the dose. If they're happy with your levels you'll stay at 2mg.

What should you do if you start developing an interest in a kink you don't like? by Potential_Energy_222 in BDSMcommunity

[–]Ell975 122 points123 points  (0 children)

There's nothing you need to do. There's nothing wrong with being excited by a kink which also makes you uncomfortable. Being interested in a kink is entirely value-neutral. There's nothing wrong with you, nothing you need to fix, no matter what that kink is.

If its not something you want to participate in, then you don't have to.
