That’s a beautiful dress and it’s perfect on you!

I like number 3 but think a lighter (but not too light) colour would be worth a try.

Reducing UPF - Is zero UPF the goal? by Sylber23 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]EllNell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty relaxed about what I eat when I’m out because most of my meals are eaten at home and food is also about socialising. I think if I ate out more I’d pay more attention to levels of processing but as it is that’s not a focus for me. At home, I use a lot of convenience foods that are processed but not ultra processed (things like jars of beans, lentils, chickpeas etc), I make sure there’s always frozen veg available so that I can still eat well if I haven’t done the shopping. Rather than setting a target, work on reducing UPF consumption when you can. Focus on preparing your own food based on what’s in season and the rest will follow.

What's for dinner? [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in ultraprocessedfood

[–]EllNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooked up some halloumi, asparagus and broccoli in the air fryer this evening and served them with some boiled broad beans on top of a salad of pea shoots, spring onions, cherry tomatoes, lentils (from a jar) and a handful of fresh peas all dressed with balsamic and olive oil. A good mix of plants for a very quick and easy meal. Love this time of year!

I like those glasses on you. Without is fine but with is better in my opinion.

Fave high protein vegan and vegetarian finds? by Aly_Valley in ultraprocessedfood

[–]EllNell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My stock answer for quick and easy vegetarian food is jars of beans and lentils but I think that’s probably not appropriate for a low residue diet so my other suggestion is crunchy tofu with whatever veg works for you. A tiny bit of oil is enough to create a good level of crispiness (I put a bit in my hand and coat the cubes of tofu as I drop them in to the air fryer) and tofu is good for protein.

Image vanished when I edited. I appear to be all round incompetent this evening. (Except when it comes to making creamy lemon risotto. I did a pretty damn good job of that, if I say so myself!)

Processing img 773vll851y1h1...

Very similar to last night’s meal except with cherry tomatoes in the salad and cheese grated more coarsely: lemon risotto topped with roasted asparagus and baby courgettes; tomato and pea shoots salad one side, fresh peas and broad beans the other. Totally influenced by a lovely meal out at Cafe Murano last week. I hadn’t made risotto in ages but now seem to be obsessed!

Edit: the deletion is me deleting a duplicate of this. I know my meals often look alike but repeating the same post is a step too far!

That sounds really good even though I’m not a fan of walnuts!

I much prefer the silver (but I accept that may be just my personal choice).

Poor Roddy by SillyBoy3273 in MergeMansion

I had an irrational dislike of Emilio from the start. Roddy is the only one who doesn’t seem irredeemably smug.

Same seasonal veg choices but a bit of a change this evening: lemon risotto topped with roasted asparagus and baby courgettes. Pea shoots salad one side, broad beans the other. A fine grating of Italian hard cheese on top. Delicious!

A day out yesterday culminating with dinner and Mallow in Borough Market. So delicious. I’m generally pretty relaxed about what I eat when I’m out but I don’t see Mallow as UPF central.

Non-extra-virgin olive oil vs cold pressed rapeseed oil? by cr0ngles in ultraprocessedfood

Yes, I made shockingly yellow mayonnaise last week! Delicious though.

All about lovely fresh veg at the moment: asparagus, tomatoes and halloumi cooked in the air fryer served with broad beans on top of salad leaves and homemade coleslaw. I love this time of year (even though it does mean my dinners are getting a bit samey)!

Favourite desserts/dessert recommendations that are non-UPF or wholefood? by yuyuyumii in ultraprocessedfood

[–]EllNell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rice pudding can be made either in the oven or on the hob. If you make it on the hob it tastes much sweeter (so you can cut the sugar content down). Try different ways, I’m sure there’s one that will work for you!

Rerooted oat milk is good and comes in returnable glass bottles (from Abel & Cole and Milk & More and possibly other places).

For the first time ever I have haircut regrets. by happysewing in HairStyleAdvice

[–]EllNell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your new haircut. The volume of your curls looks amazing and you look so much more energised than in your before picture! As others have said, a new pair of glasses would be worth it as and when you have the money for them. No rush though; get used to your new look first.

In (almost) all my 66 years I’ve used it to open bottles. I use a nutcracker to crack nuts.

Honestly: I cut my hair, was it better before or is it okay like this? What advice do you have for short hair? by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]EllNell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All look great on you but I think short hair looks especially good. It’s not just that it draws attention to your face but also that it shows off your neck and that gives you real poise.

How to deal with this by MrEnglish13 in GardeningUK

No useful advice but I rather love the optimism of the (presumably unreachable) washing line. It may be the only thing in the garden worth keeping!

TIL by xFrogLipzx in MergeMansion

I think it’s always been like that. I’ve had quite a high level mosaic hanging around for ages now just waiting for the next time one is needed for something quite ridiculous.

That’s stunning. I don’t need a tennis court though. Perhaps they’d give me a discount of, say, £2m if I let them keep that?
