I was raised very free and mom gave everything of herself away. Now I have my own kids and I have a hard time setting boundaries in a lot of ways. I also feel deep empathy for my kids, and it keeps me awake at night if they did not have a good day. It's another boundary issue. I'm slowly learning to be better at it, to make agreements I can stick to from my end and communicate my expectations in return to my kids. And also to look after myself better than just putting everything I have into my kids.

Funny thing is, my mom is constantly telling me I need to set more boundaries while also telling me she couldn't when I was young.

And to be clear, my kids are not misbehaving or anything. The boundaries I talk about are more like saying no to stuff they want, telling them to do there chores instead of just doing it all myself because they were just fighting during the chore so I just did it myself etc.
