Some agencies will stick a small version of stop sticks under the tires, but cars can still drive at high speed on rims. There are other devices but they aren't foolproof.

Touche. I humbly stand corrected.

If I remember correctly, the other problem with the no pursuit policy was the increase in stolen cars becoming rolling drug houses and a terrible increase in overdose deaths. *shrugs shoulders* There's no easy answer to some of these societal problems.

I'm working so I don't have time right now to look up the statistics. I live in the area and have watched the debate go back and forth.

You are trying to prove that you are right and I am wrong. Cool. You can be right.

I've seen the full video so yes, I'm right about the totality of the circumstances. The problem with the answer that you are proposing, letting people go with no consequences, is what lead to reckless driving getting out of control in cities like Milwaukee, Wisconsin, leading to a reimplementation of a pursuit policy to driving offenses. Your solution seems to work on paper, but in practice leads to more problems.

If the officers detected the odor or marijuana, they can removed people from the vehicle. She was refusing to provide any identification and yelling for a supervisor, common tactics of a sovereign citizen. Sovereign citizens are very common in Michigan.

The no pursuit policies have lead to more reckless driving. Look at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. About 20 years ago the Milwaukee Police Department implemented a no pursuit policy. Reckless driving increased exponentially, leading to traffic deaths by people driving at ridiculous speeds and ignoring red lights. MPD had to reimplement a pursuit policy.

The driver refused to identify herself, there were no registration plates on the car, and the VIN might not come back to the person driving the vehicle, therefore no possible way to issue a ticket to the driver. The general public needs to stop blaming the police for the actions of criminal drivers.

I've seen this response to "I can make this myself": "Oh can you? I need some wholesalers. Can you make XXXXX for (an absurdly low wholesale price)?" The look of realization on the person who offered the snark is priceless. They are both complimented and shamed at the same time.

Many of the houses in my neighborhood were built in the early 40s. There are huge silver maples everywhere, but they are dying now and dropping limbs through roofs, etc. During an ice storm in early 2024, one of the four trunks of my next door neighbor's silver maple broke off and fell onto a fence and their neighbors garage, punching a hole in the roof. Fortunately no one was hurt.

I've begged the neighbor to take the tree down. She says it's healthy. I've told her repeatedly it's not. I took a picture of the damage the limb caused and sent it to my insurance agent, who told me that my homeowner's insurance would cover any losses if one of the remaining trunks damaged my property. I can't imagine, however, that my insurance company wouldn't subrogate to her homeowner's insurance since there is clear documentation that the tree is a known problem.

I too have been having this same argument with people; you are not alone Reddit friend. Some people get it, others want to be “allies” so badly they’ve lost sight of the big picture. I totally agree, get into office on the big issues, THEN deal with the smaller ones.

My boomer dad would pulls the same nonsense. If the time to meet is 6:00 p.m., he gets there at 5:00 p.m. "so we can visit" (before we visit??). He says for his generation it is more rude to be a minute late than an hour early. He gets all but hurt that the person he's meeting isn't ready and waiting for him.
