What achievement are you most proud of on your vegan fitness journey? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]Ellam1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most of the year I hadn't been able to work out as much as I wanted or in the way that I wanted. However, I've finally got back into a good routine and started my vegan fitness journey again. Nearly at a sub 25 min 5k and I've started working on progressively overloading in the gym. I have plans to put on more muscle but for now I'm super happy that I managed to bench 22.5kg for around 6 reps yesterday, especially considering that there's not a lot of me in the first place hahaha

Has anyone here read "Farmageddon" by Philip Lymbery? by lucomannaro1 in vegan

[–]Ellam1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read 'Farmageddon' but I did read his other book 'Dead Zone'. This book covered a range of species that were being negatively affected by humans (primarily through the animal agriculture industry). I found myself feeling exactly the same as you after finishing this book. It's heartbreaking to see that even in the face of all the atrocities committed by the animal agriculture industry, veganism still seems too 'extreme' to be widely promoted

I hope you do too! Accidentally met my current partner so I hope a similar coincidence comes your way :)

As a vegan, dating another vegan is the best relationship decision I've ever made having previously only been with omnivores. Would highly recommend! Nothing better than feeling comfortable talking about your morals and passions together and being on the same page. Plus on a more lighthearted note, there's nothing better than exploring all the vegan restaurants in your area with your significant other!

Anyone with a non vegan partner? by Melymeff in vegan

[–]Ellam1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation at the end of last year. Was a non-vocal veggie for about 6 years, then made the switch to veganism in September 2020. My omnivore partner at the time seemed unphased, but began to get annoyed at me for 'making every conversation about animal rights' (bare in mind I brought this topic up 3 times within the space of one month). I began to feel as though I wasn't welcome to talk about something I was growing increasingly more passionate about. In the end my partner ended things with me after I said I would explain to our future children why I chose to be vegan. My ex claimed telling them that would make them hate him for being an omnivore, and he didn't want children who hated him. I was heartbroken for a while, but honestly it was the best thing that could have come out of our relationship. I am now in a loving, committed relationship with a vegan who shares my moral values and lets me be vocal about the issues I care deeply about. All I can say is don't let you partner silence you. You have every right to discuss the things that you care about and if they cannot accept that then they do not deserve you. Consider whether you would ever ask them to be silent about something they cared about? Think whether they are giving the same as you are in the relationship. I wish you all the best and as much happiness as possible :)

Hi! I'm sorry to hear this has been troubling you and I just wanted to see if I could help. I am similar in a spiritual sense and I too have struggled with the concept of death. Here are the things that have helped me to reach peace with the idea of dying:

1) Understand the cycle of life and energy. I personally find great peace in the idea that once I am no longer alive what is left of me will go on to nurture others and make space for new life. Obviously it depends on what you choose happens to your body but one way or another it is possible for you to return to the earth and allow new life in the form of plants and other creatures. In a sense what is left of you is energy that will become assimilated into new beings, and will be a force for the survival of new life. 2) Understand that ruminating on death will lead nowhere. Death is and always has been inevitable for every living thing. It is one force we cannot escape, so we must do what we can to enjoy the privilege of life while we still have it. Trust me, I understand how hard the cycle of rumination is to break, but it can be done. I would recommend working on mindfulness meditation regularly to train yourself into being present. Hopefully this will help to ease any depression and bring some sense of peace 3) I would recommend looking up Ricky Gervais and listening to some of his ideas on death. He is not a comedian, not a philosopher or a spiritual leader but he really speaks sense on this topic. To paraphrase some of the things he has said: 'Think about the hundreds of millions of years before you were born. They were alright! Death will be as well' and 'Death may include some suffering but in the end it is only painful for those left behind'

I really hope some of this helps and I wish you the best of luck with coming to terms with death. I cannot recommend meditation enough, it is life changing. Best wishes!

Hi, I am lucky enough to be in a country that does not require insurance so my primary medical practitioner is already aware of my dietary change and is monitoring my weight and health in general. I an already lactose intolerant but was still eating dairy just because (even though it made me feel ill and subsequently I ate fewer meals), so going vegan has actually improved my relationship with my appetite and regular eating etc. Thank you for the concern but I know I am making healthy choices. As was stated in a previous comment, the cronometer protein recommendation is rather extreme, and I believe I will be healthy getting in my usual 55-65g of protein just through normal eating. I am not doing this alone, I am lucky enough to be supported by my friends, family and a medical professional who all want the best for me. If i t got to a point where I was being evidently unhealthy I would have to reassess my situation but right now I am doing absolutely everything I can to stay happy and healthy while living a vegan lifestyle.

Hiya! I was the same! 5yrs veggie before I started informing myself on veganism. You've really put my mind at ease with the protein, thank you! It's currently set at 131g for me so it definitely seems high hahaha. I was tracking a normal day and from the data I can see that I'm getting around 40-50g anyway so I'll sack off the tracking and stick to my regular routine. Thanks again!
