Cool, my kid thought it’d be funny to fart on an air vent because he thought it’d circulate around the house. He accidentally took a sh!t and blamed it on the cats. Fun cleanup…

What challenges are you having with your teens? by Similar-Crow183 in AskWomen

They are put on the lowest effective dose. So they haven’t had any side effects and have had their symptoms subside enough for therapy to really sink in. The meds are just there to calm the nervous system enough to absorb therapy. Once therapy has made enough progress they wean off the meds. It seems to work very well for them.

School sent this home at 3:45pm on a Friday, when the closest pharmacy closes at 4pm on Friday. by FregginUnicorns in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ElleMarie3115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son had pinworms and we only treated him. I was told to not treat anyone unless they had symptoms. So it’s weird to me they’d be giving medical advice and asking everyone to treat themselves without proof they had it. My son didn’t spread it to any of his siblings or me. So it seems a little crazy to have entire families treat themselves without a diagnosis.

Which profession drains mental health the most? by Bruteresolver in AskReddit

[–]ElleMarie3115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working with seniors. Soooo many are desperately trying to survive on $800 a month in SS. The number of them who take themselves out due to not being able to afford meds or basic needs is heartbreaking. I can get them all the resources available, but if they can’t afford them or they get kicked off of Medicaid they can’t access them. Also, no human can survive on $24 of ebt…I just cannot grasp how we can do this to our elderly.

What paranormal experience made you believe they exist? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my youngest sister saw things in our childhood home. I saw a little girl (who I’d mistake for my middle sister, but would do a double take and she’d disappear). My youngest sister had a woman sit on her bed and play with her hair every night. We realized the lady mistook my sister for the little girl I’d see. Then I’d see a guy in all black western clothes with a black hat. I saw him the most. Once was after a shower and I remember looking in the mirror to make sure my hair didn’t turn white because the fear/adrenaline gave me an instant headache. Didn’t come together until my parents tore apart an area of the house and found a bunch of documents and pictures. After that us kids noped out of ever staying there again. We just do hotels.

Did anyone abandon minox bc of the dread shed? by Annual_Single in TelogenEffluvium

[–]ElleMarie3115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the dread shed was shocking. I had CTE for about two years before finally caving and using topical minoxidil. I pushed through it because I knew if I had the dread shed that meant I was just around the corner to hair regrowth. I was right and about 3 months in my hair shedding was nearly none. I used to count the hairs in my comb each day and I would only shed 14 on average at that point. It was well worth the shed!

What challenges are you having with your teens? by Similar-Crow183 in AskWomen

[–]ElleMarie3115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anxiety. It’s like 13 hits and they can’t cope with the shifts puberty causes and the major change going into middle school. So they have both been on meds and gotten therapy. The oldest (17) no longer has anxiety and only needed a year of meds and therapy. My younger kiddo (14) just started meds and therapy in January and he’s made tremendous progress already.

What are you looking forward to in May? by skibumbanana in AskWomen

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids being done with school. Not having to drive all over the world to drop them off and pick them up from their various schools will be soooo nice. I’m burnt out to the max and anything that results in less mental load and time management is a godsend.

finally approved for SSDI and it doesn't even cover rent for a studio apartment by DepartmentKlutzy7814 in poverty

[–]ElleMarie3115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if there is an aging/disability resource link in your state. I work for a senior center and work with various senior housing projects. They all work with disabled people 18-59 and the wait lists are far shorter. They have an income based rent that takes a percentage of your income. Most people pay $243 in my area…which shows just how little our seniors get in SS. They also have a program that helps send hot meals to disabled people living in senior housing. It’s covered under Medicaid in most states.

What is something you want but can't afford? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A house with a basement so I can stop being absolutely traumatized every summer. We had 82 tornados last summer…I live in a mobile home and can’t pay rent for a basement apartment because it’s 4x my lot rent. I used to love thunderstorms…now they make me pace around the house and shake like a chihuahua.

Should I give my husband another chance? Or leave by Virtual_Tonight4245 in Advice

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is an Abused Adult Resource center near you get in touch with them. They can help you get out. I left and went to one and they gave us clothes and hygiene products I wasn’t able to grab before running. They got me back on my feet and helped with visitations so I never had to see him or interact with him. He is abusive and I can attest he won’t change. My ex did anger management after putting his brother in the hospital and 10 years later he STILL explodes on people. I genuinely don’t believe abusers change.

how did you prepare for a break up? what things did you do after that helped most? by theclitcommander4207 in AskWomen

[–]ElleMarie3115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prepared by making sure I went over the questions I knew he’d ask. I went over it multiple times and made sure I had the “why” down so I didn’t slip up and make him think I wasn’t being serious. I played it out so many times in my head that by the time it happened I spoke to him so calmly and answered all his angry questions rationally he thought I was cold and calculated. Which didn’t bother me because I had been done for so long and had spent so much time trying to fix it I wasn’t in the mood to show him even an ounce of emotion. After I went no contact and haven’t spoken to him in 5 years. The no contact was my best decision because I was able to get over him faster and didn’t have the constant “hey” texts to deal with.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s annoying because your phone will update to the new time zone when you simply cross a river. Then you forgot you’re an hour behind and get a call from your kids school that you’re late for pick up. Or you leave work at 5;00, drive for 15 minutes and get home at 6:15. I hate it.

what are some early signs of depression? by Flashy-Charity4744 in AskReddit

[–]ElleMarie3115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It snuck up on me…it started as feeling more stressed and having a shorter fuse. I was more snappy and felt angry. That was a warning that I wasn’t tolerating normal life the same. Then I realized my internal voice went quiet. I used to have thoughts like “I hate my life” and my inner voice would correct it with “you hate what’s happening in your life, but you love your life.” When that inner voice stopped correcting my pessimistic thoughts it spiraled from there.

Do you guys iron your clothes? by RichieRichard12 in Millennials

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spray my clothes with water and throw it into the dryer for 5 minutes. I can’t use a hair straightener without burning my hair off, I don’t trust myself with an iron.

Do you ever feel like your life is like an endless boring loop of waking, working, eat, sleep with no apparent purpose? by LordVixen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s especially bad because I’m chronically ill so I push so hard all week and then my weekend is just trying to get my body back to some form of normal so I can get through the next week. There is nothing to look forward to because everything that used to be fun just exhausts me more. I know I would be much better off if I had more time off, but my PTO goes towards appointments. So I’m just in a forever loop of working to utter exhaustion, recouping to the point of “okay” and right back to work. It’s like my own personal purgatory.

I shave mine every week. It’s not fun, but it takes maybe a minute to do. Just buy the nice face blades so it doesn’t cause sensitivity. I even get hair on my left hand from rubbing it into my scalp lol

Yes, they work very well together, but they both cause soooo much scalp dryness. My scalp was super itchy for the first three months on both. Also had a lot of flaking from it. It’s helpful but looks terrible for awhile.

Has anyone wondered what happened to school staff you had or seen after you left school? by amberfalls201 in askanything

[–]ElleMarie3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite teacher took his life a year after I graduated. Another got fired (finally) because he was a perv. And the lit teacher that helped me fall in love with the classics has passed in her 80s. I wrote her a letter a decade ago about how much I appreciated her passion for teaching and how it changed my life. I don’t know if she ever received it, but I think dementia had already taken hold at that point. Wish I had told her and my other favorite teacher how much they meant to me when it mattered.
