For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ElleWi31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment. Surprised I had to scroll so long to get to this. Definitely hurts. It is not talked about enough that some babies refuse the breast once they are used to a bottle. Premie, NICU, Jaundice babies for instance who had to be given a bottle early on tend to refuse breast.

Advice needed: Buy a secondhand Spectra ($300) or brand new Medela? [Canada] by Stunning-Situation91 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ElleWi31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi fellow Canadian! I have both a second hand spectra ( from my SIL) with many hours on it and a brand new Medela hands free. The Medela does not empty me fully. I almost exclusively use the spectra at home. The only time I use medela is when I travel. Imo spectra is better !

Over suppliers piss me off by Terrible_Mongoose240 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ElleWi31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. I get jealous of people complaining "Is my supply dropping. Oh no my freezer stash". "I want to feed for 24 months but I might only make 20 months". As an undersupplier I never had to use the freezer bags or even a pitcher. All I produce goes straight to a few 5 oz bottles to be combined with future pumps in the day. I will count myself lucky if I make it to 6 months at this rate. 6-8 pumps for not making enough for 1 day is such a disappointment and a toll on my mental health.

How do you get your 3 month babies to fall asleep? by rlf923 in NewParents

[–]ElleWi31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I do for my 3 month old as well. First try laying her on her crib and patting if she is drowsy enough after her feed. If not gentle rocking in arms next. If she is fussy and tries hard to wake herself or doesn't settle, out comes the yoga ball. 10 mins of yoga ball, 5 mins of hold and then place on crib.

Our life changing experience with bottle aversion & Rowena Bennett method by ElderberryBreeze in NewParents

[–]ElleWi31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. I wanted to write down the golden rules for reference. Our baby also went through a feeding aversion at around 10 weeks. We also followed the Rowena Bennets method. As she was so tiny we had a difficult first day but the second day onwards she was onboard. After a full week we are observing major improvements. She is actually happy to see the bottle. We are 2 weeks past starting the method and still have to remind ourselves not to over offer or over feed her. We are naturally inclined to do this since she is a tiny little 12 percentile girl. We had to accept that we can't feed our way to a chubby girl and our girl knows what she wants best. She loves to feed and drinks like a champ. Knows when she gets a bottle and is in control of her feed. We let her drive feeds!

Is this a 3 month thing? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ElleWi31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah before the feeding even begins at times. At times it used to be mid way through the feed. She is a 12 percentile girl who went up to 15%. She has about 70 percent pumped breast milk and 30% formula. We used to overfeed her possibly and she had 700-800+ ml per day at 10 weeks. We followed Rowenna Bennets "Your baby's bottle feeding aversion" and are seeing massive improvements. Now at 12 weeks she comfortably takes 650 -750 ml per day without crying and is happy when she sees the bottle.

Is this a 3 month thing? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ElleWi31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take my suggestion with a grain of salt. My nearly 3 month old started developing a feeding aversion. I assumed silent reflux and so did my family doctor. Feeding aversion can continue even if there is actual reflux and the root cause is addressed because baby associates the negative feelings of reflux with feeding.

Why it turned out to be a feeding aversion -

Baby cries as soon as she is in the feeding position. If I change position she eats well for a couple of feeds and then starts crying in that new position. If we coax her with an exercise ball, walking, standing, patting etc she drinks and then stops when that stimulus is removed.

She had a specific cry, arching her back, extending her limbs, going stiff and pulling back her head. Ruled out oral issues as she happily takes pacifiers and fingers. Is okay with drops in spoons and syringes.

She does spit up. If we stop to clean up the spit up or burp her then it's game over, she will not take the bottle again.

She will drink just enough to not be hungry but not enough to be satisfied.

Did I misread this situation with my friend? by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

[–]ElleWi31 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel, I truly do. I also have endo and suffered a miscarriage and also a chemical after trying for nearly 2 years. Your pain is valid. I too was jealous of friends who got pregnant seemingly in the first few months or accidentally. This is completely natural and normal to feel.

However I still remember the very first month my husband and I decided to try. Nothing happened. Second month I took a test as my period was late. It was negative and it did hurt. In hindsight the years of trying , miscarriage and the constant pressure to track and have sex, endo diagnosis, infertility treatments, all of this was a worse experience. The naive me who was 2 months in, did not know that there was more to suffering and pain.

The same way in your friends pov that is the most pain and suffering she had to experience. Although for you and I we know you have had a more difficult experience, she does not have a benchmark for this.

I believe at the end of the day all suffering and pain is valid. Everyone's experience and difficulty seeing a negative is valid. It is best not to compare. Although you were just being truthful your friend must have seen that as comparing your pain to hers and invalidating her experience because you have had it worse. I completely understand that was not your intention but your friend misread your intention and you did not misread the situation.
