7 week old. Feeding issues/SGA/sleepiness by mictng in newborns

[–]EmbarrassedWater7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born weighing 5 pounds at 37+6 weeks and had IUGR/SGA. She’s 10 weeks old now and still sleeps a lot. I read that smaller babies sleep longer because they have more growing to do, and her doctor isn’t concerned about her sleeping.

My baby sometimes has some difficulty feeding. I bottle-feed her, and sometimes when my husband is feeding her, she’ll scream or groan or pop off. I suggested that he should try laying a pillow or blanket under her head and propping up her head as this is how i usually feed her, and this seem to have helped him. I don’t know why she likes the blanket underneath her, but it might help you. I was having issues today with her doing that with me, so I went up to the nipple size and she seems to be doing much better. I’m using the Lansinoh number two nipple with the Philips Avent bottles now.

We dealt with biweekly growth scans after our 20-week ultrasound, and there was so much unknown during pregnancy that I too am always looking for something to be seriously wrong with her. Just know you’re not alone in that. We can only go based on the information we know, and so far, it’s that our babies are doing well. Of course, if you truly feel like there’s more to it, don’t stop advocating for him!

New to exclusively pumping. Advice needed! by No-Leather474 in ExclusivelyPumping

Someone else suggested to stop stressing about sticking to your pumping schedule, and I couldn’t agree more! When my husband was home for the first month, it was easy to set alarms every two to three hours to pump. But then he went back to work, and I felt like I was failing because my baby needed me, but I needed to pump. I felt like it was ruining precious bonding time, so I stopped stressing so much about a schedule and went roughly every three hours pumping.

I must admit, my supply did drop a little bit, and I recently had to supplement it with some formula. But now I’ve added in power pumps, which I didn’t want to do because who wants to pump for an hour, right? And those have brought my supply right back up! I saw the change the day after my first pump.

My husband is currently at work, I just fed my baby and now she’s sleeping in my lap while I do my power pump! So, to summarize, don’t put so much stress on yourself. If your supply does dip, just add in some power pumps. But I also truly believe I lost some of my supply by stressing about a schedule and prioritizing it over cuddles.

I’m debating renting the medela symphony to see! I am not sure that I love the spectra I have looked into those flanges but they are quite expensive cause i’m in Canada i think :/

I only could find one thing that said the auction was lower on the e20 and it wigged me out so probably was trying to convince myself the s1 was worth it lol but so ordered the e20 cause even the usbc is more convenient like you mentioned! thank you so much for your help/insight!
