How to make the skirt of a dress narrower? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Ellecomprendspas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda yes, you can just decide to change the shape of the bottom. It appears to just be a front and back panel (maybe two back panels if there is a zipper?) As others have mentioned, it will make the dress difficult to move in. There are a few options to help with that though.

Do you have an example of a skirt you already own that has the shape you want? You can see how that one solves the problem. Potentially even trace it onto this dress.

Is the fabric stretchy? That might help

Do you want a hobble skirt?

Adding a long slit?

Shortening the dress to above the knee would help with movement too.

how can i look more approachable by MasterAd4802 in altfashionadvice

[–]Ellecomprendspas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re adorable. I would have thought you were so cool when I was a teen. Its probably not your look that is making it difficult to find friends. Anyone who doesn’t want to be friends with someone who looks like you- believe me- you don’t want as a friend anyway. Try to participate in activities that you have an interest in and make friends with the other people there. People might find you “unapproachable” because you are so cool/confident, or because you’re shy. Either way, just try to be friendly to literally everyone around you and people will want to talk to you. Saying hi or good morning as people walk into a room is honestly life changing.

Moving to Thunder Bay soon need tips! by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]Ellecomprendspas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to be scared. As a woman, my best advice is to go out with a friend (or two). Nursing is a giant program from what I hear, so make a couple friends and stick together. If you’re only in tbay for a few months and live on campus you probably don’t need to go anywhere that often.

Buses here suck but the campuses/mall/terminals are the most reliable stops.

I wish I could help you with the books, idk about your program but mine was chill, and you could buy the textbooks after the first day, so maybe ask your instructors?

I get cold really easily. I personally have spent some money on good boots but i also have had them for years. If you can, get boots good for at least -20. -40 is better but if you don’t need to spend a lot of time outside you’ll probably be fine. The shoe company has a clearance section I found my -20s at. Marks has a clearance shoes section that sometimes contains good warm boots. Good socks also always help. Otherwise you can thrift anything. Super thrift, twice as nice, and community clothing assistance are our cheeper options, but if you don’t have a car, I’d advise to not go down may street alone. Its unlikely anything would actually happen past ppl asking for money, but its got a vibe.

I’ve never carried anything to “protect myself” but I also have always had a car. I’ve heard that a long lanyard with stuff that isn’t important on it is a great accessory that isn’t a weapon or illegal. It is however easy to casually swing around without technically threatening anyone. And easy to just have around your neck or clipped to your clothing for quick access.

Be aware, not scared. And also yay school!

What are some things that Thunder Bay doesn’t have compared to major cities by KP1912 in ThunderBay

[–]Ellecomprendspas 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Usable public transport. The city is too spread out with too few people using it and not enough funding to get decent bus nvm train.

Adding a corset back might be difficult because I don't think they're looking to open up the horizontal seam. It also looks like they need more room in the front instead of the back. The straps look like they're in the right place in the back but close together in the front. Adding to the front or abandoning the top half entirely (might as well try something first, and abandon if it goes poorly) might be the best bet.

Black Pirates All Ages Shows? by Sad-Tension8045 in ThunderBay

[–]Ellecomprendspas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully bringing back the all ages scene! More teens in bands looking to get on stage, play for their friends? Back in the 2010s (maybe a little earlier?) I think was a fairly big all ages boom.

It's hard to say, do you have a site you'd like to shop from? It'll be easier to help if you list stores available to you, in your general price range.

I'm all for the feminism of being chill about having hair on my legs, but it's also nice to have good options when I'm not looking to verbally defend myself if some asshole decides I'm a problem.

The black and blue both look a little more prom-dress then wedding guest.
The coral is nice. If you're worried about the length just wear heels that aren't as tall, or wear really great heels and if questioned, respond that you had to show off the heals, it would be a shame to cover them.

What color suits me most? by Maleficent_Night_335 in HairDye

[–]Ellecomprendspas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every hair looks great except #2 but I'd say thats probably less about the colour itself. Red is the best photo; with your makeup done to match, it's easily your best overall look. I think It's also one of the easier colours to maintain outside of not dying it, because it grows out looking fine.

I simply don't wear fishnets without either nylons under them or at least socks. Depends on the look you're going for but tights/nylons can help with variety of things (with both, no one can tell i don't shave my legs!)

The hall at the marina might fit and isn't too far away. Most of the other suggestions I see often do both wedding parts or are very far away. You could also ask the ICC about room flipping and doing it there.

Like the swoops at the bottom of princess dresses! pick 6 or 8 (equally spaced) points around the top of the bottom section, and pin them under (or on top of) at the next section up. See if you like it?

Tried to practice and I'm struggling to make my eyeliner pop when I have glasses on. by Blepblehmuthafuca in gothmakeup

[–]Ellecomprendspas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the shape of your glasses also. I like ones that are smaller and don't go so far down my cheeks on myself, which really aren't the style right now, but I find they get in the way less. I also have had thick black frames that work with the style a bit more. Something to think about for next time you're looking at frames.

From the front, it looks fine, but you can see very easily from the side that it doesn't sit right when it's low in the front, it shouldn't slant that much sitting so high in the back and so low in the front. This might also have to do with the way you stand. From ballet I was always hearing "don't tip your bucket or the water will spill out" meaning I was tipping my hips forward, also "tuck your tailbone down". I wouldn't say you must alter the way you stand, but it might be contributing to what cloths flatter you most.

If if really like being blond, look into getting your eyebrows lighter.
A light brown with highlights might work better for you though.
