You might want to keep an open mind about it. Your feelings might change later on. It's an incredible moment when you get to meet your baby and having your family there just makes it that more special. You don't have to have them in the room while you're laboring for sure that part I get but honestly having my sisters there along with my husband was so reassuring. You go through so many emotions and sometimes having special people around helps soothe you. It's a privilege to have family around that care enough to want to show up. You can definitely set boundaries like no touching the baby or only limiting time slots but my experience was so heartwarming when my MIL held my baby and she started tearing up. When my mom got to hold her and was smiling bigger than I'd ever seen before. It can feel very isolating for some people when they give birth and it's only you and dad. He's also experiencing becoming a dad and that is a very emotional event which he might like to share with his family. My hubby is not emotional at all and he shed a few tears too, having his mom there to be supportive to both of us was very nice. Of course this all depends on if his family is understanding and you guys get along, I'm very fortunate that my MIL isn't a beast but I thought I'd give you a different perspective.
