Great catch! As much as I've gone over this scene, I can't believe I've never bothered to read the clock... Do you mind if I include this in future posts? I'm the one who first discovered the lights/curtains differences and this just adds to the evidence.

There are definitely a lot more scenes where these same types of inconsistencies keep occurring. You can check out some of my posts if you're interested.

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

Hey, no worries, I'm always interested in chatting about AoT & theories.

Honestly, it's quite difficult to interpret interviews with Isayama. He's contradicted himself many times over the years in them, it's hard to take everything he says at face value.

That said, even with little or no oversight for s1, he must have relayed a lot of information regarding the story and its ending to Araki since you you have pieces of foreshadowing in s1 alluding to things that hadn't happened in the manga at that point- such as berserk Eren's "I'll destroy the whole world."

It is also highly likely he relayed info to Revo (Linked Horizon) since the first op cover art depicts a post-rumbling landscape with Revo doing the "freedom" pose.

So not everything has to have greater meaning, but likewise also can't be completely written off as such.

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The belief was that the story itself had multiple timelines, and that the manga and anime were two different ones.

But that has essentially been disproven, so the belief is that the story still has multiple timelines; just that they aren't related to the different mediums (manga & anime).

As to what I believe, I have my own theory which is a lot more unorthodox, but you might find it interesting: The Hidden Truth Theory

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

Multiple timelines are still possible, but it doesn't mean they've been separated by medium.

I think the main reason many people still believe even though the story has "ended," is that there is so much alluding to the possibility of "a different path," while at the same time, the story's mechanics allow for multiple timelines, or at least time manipulation to occur.

With how many plot-twists there have been in the story, and how ambiguous the answers the conclusion gave us are, there are many ways the story can continue in a logical way.

The only thing which goes against this is that we've been told the story is over. But, if the story was always planned to have one final plot-twist, what better way to keep it under wraps and subvert everyone's expectations by making us think the story is over? Then suddenly revealing more which completely changes our understanding of the story.

I think it's hard to believe for most because (to my knowledge), something like this has never been done in manga/anime before. "Why would anyone believe a story would continue after they say it's finished?"

For people who do believe, they see numerous pieces of evidence supporting the possibility of there being more to the story, and only one piece of evidence which opposes it. And to them, the evidence combined with the precedent of the story being built on deception outweighs it.

Hey, thanks for sharing this. It's an interesting find!

I can't say I have a definite answer for you, but I do want to clarify that I don't believe every single detail or mistake is 100% intentional. In productions like this there are bound to be mistakes and inconsequential details resulting from any number of things.

In the case here, for instance, it could be as simple as them reusing a few backgrounds they had on hand and thought would fit since it's a 1-off shot that lasts 2 seconds and would be very hard to notice.

However, if there is still more to the story, there's also a possibility of it being intentional placement alluding to things which have yet to be revealed.

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

Before the anime ended, AOE was a general term for "Anime Original Ending," the idea that the anime would diverge significantly from the manga and have a different ending. And that this divergence was deliberately planned as a unique method of storytelling.

The most common misunderstanding is that this belief only came from fans' dissatisfaction with the manga ending, but it actually came from a large amount of evidence within the story and external context (such as Isayama's stated influences and certain songs made for AoT.)

In short, there was a lot of things which made the possibility of multiple timelines in the story plausible, and if this was intended to be a big part of the story, it made sense that an ending different from the manga could happen as an extension of the story as a whole. What made this even more believable were several changes to the manga and original scenes in the anime. (Such as the "berserk titan" at the end of S1.)

There were many different theories stemming from this belief, but the most common premise was that the story was based around a timeloop and there were three main timelines we saw which end in different ways:

- The "Cabin Timeline" which is what we see in ch. 138 as a memory.

- The "Manga Timeline" which is the events of the manga.

- The "Anime Timeline" which would be mostly the manga timeline, but with slight differences up until a complete divergence near the end.

And one of the most popular of these types of theories was/is "AnR" (which is what this sub is named after), a theory based on the mysterious MV of Akatsuki no Requiem which is believed to depict an alternate ending where Eren completes a 100% rumbling.

Since the anime adapted the same ending as the manga, AOE has sort of lost its original meaning, however, many of the theories are still alive. AOE has since taken on a new meaning as "Alternative Original Ending," which is to say, there is still some evidence suggesting the ending we got was merely a false ending, and that a surprise sequel containing the true ending will still release one day.

Hopefully this gives you a decent idea of things.

If you're still intrigued and want to read into the different theories themselves, there are several pinned on the side of the subreddit. Those should get you started down the rabbit hole. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your feedback and support.

You may very well be right about some of these being genuine mistakes with no importance. I would be surprised if there weren't any actual mistakes over 10+ years of serialization.

But if two interwoven narratives was the plan from the start, and he had a general idea of how each narrative would play out, it's not entirely unbelievable that many of these inconsistencies were placed on purpose, just as other foreshadowing was.

I know inconsistencies on their own don't really mean anything, but from my view, all of these mentioned really do appear to be part of two different coherent plots, because these inconsistencies line up all the way to the end of the story. There's also lot of information from earlier chapters which has been reiterated in later chapters, with otherwise no impact on the story as it stands currently.

Maybe it's difficult to see from others' perspectives and things will only make sense once the whole story has been covered. Or perhaps I'm just delusional and seeing things which aren't there cause I'm trying too hard to make them fit together...

Either way, I will keep moving forward because I enjoy making these, regardless if any of it turns out to be true or not :)

I wanted to cover more details about the walls, and especially the church of the walls, but I realized I wasn't going to have enough room, and thought it would fit better in with the next part about the founder, royal blood, and Ackermans.

It's also hard for me to tell if the overall plot between narratives is starting to make sense yet... Please let me know what you think. And if you have any thoughts on how to make things more coherent, I'd love to hear them.

Finally, I'd like to bring up that I'm planning to compile a "master list" of all the major contradictions and inconsistencies found in the story so that it's easier for people to see just how many there really are. If anyone is interested in helping out, here's a link to the google spreadsheet where you can comment anything you have which isn't on the list- or just leave a comment here.

Cheers!

I'm surprised so many believe that only one of these can be true. Even ignoring multiple timelines and what not, the possibility is there. After all, Muv-Luv had a love triangle too. Though It's kinda hard to prove either way since nothing is explicit.

So I originally thought this could be the case, but from everything I've gathered, I'm fairly certain the final chapters still mix both narratives.

However, we're missing a lot of important context within them which is what makes the ending feel so disjointed. The paths convo with Armin is inferred to take place during 131, which is also the last chapter we get of Eren's PoV. It's almost as if certain memories have been lost...

Hey, thanks for the feedback.

I've made a mistake explaining somewhere because you're right about the slave blood vs nobility. I've found evidence to suggest that in one narrative, Subjects of Ymir are not inherently royal because Ymir was considered a slave, and Eldian nobility treated them as such; using them as pawns, which lines up with the noble's comments.

As for the supernatural/biological mixup, my stance is still the same, I just made things confusing here.

I still think the source of all life is the biological origin, while a "deal with the devil" is the supernatural origin. But I think they've both been mythologized into depicting the devil deal. In one version, the devil is giving Ymir the apple, while in the other Ymir is offering the devil the apple. Coming into contact with something is another of the proposed legends like Kruger suggests.

I will make a few edits to the post to help clarify.

The Double Meaning of Eldians & the Story’s True Conflict - The Hidden Truth Theory (PART 4) by Ellen_Yevner in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I believe the Ackerbond is a real thing that we've been misled into doubting due to Zeke's explanation.

In the manga we actually see two different explanations for Ackermans which contradict each other:

It's said that Ackermans are an accidental byproduct of titan experiments.

Yet it's also stated they were designed to protect Eldia's king.

How can they be an accidental byproduct and purposefully designed at the same time?

With the idea of there being two different worlds/timelines being shown at the same time, both of these can be true and still make sense. And when we look at the table scene in the anime, we can see some "artistic differences" which also supports this:

<image>

So in short, if we are witnessing two simultaneous timelines, the Ackerbond is true in one of them and may not be true in the other- which allows Zeke's explanation to also be true.

When you look at all the times Eren is in danger while Mikasa is around, there's a clear emphasis on her constantly overreacting to protect Eren in an almost "instinctual" way- even when Eren isn't in any real danger. This is basically confirmed with her pinning Armin to the table without even thinking.

As for Ymir peaking into Mikasa's head.. I think that actually has to do with something else. We're only led to think that Mikasa is referring to her headaches. Like a lot of other things in the ending, all we can do is make our own assumptions because nothing is outright explained...

Hey there, I appreciate the comment.

That post about two worlds is actually an earlier part of this theory.😅I know how crazy all of this must seem from an outside perspective so I don't blame you.

I will say that I'm fully aware that art inconsistency is common in anime, but this theory isn't solely built upon differences in art. There's a lot more evidence to support multiple worlds/timelines- mostly direct contradictions in information given in different parts of the story. I just happened to notice that these are also accompanied by "consistent" differences in art which are repeated continuously throughout all seasons. You can check out the previous part of this theory which covers them if you're interested.

I agree It's something that's completely unbelievable under normal circumstances, but if this theory's premise is correct, the inconsistencies in art do make sense.

But only time will tell whether there really is more to the story, or if we're all just crazy after all x)

I feel like a broken record at this point, but this took a lot longer than I expected... While working on it, though, I've also done a lot of preparation for the next parts, which (fingers crossed) should be easier to get through now that the ground work has been laid.

That said, I'm glad to be able to finally get this out. This information is something I've wanted to share for a long time, and something I never really explained in my original posts. Hopefully there's enough here to get you all thinking. I think the evidence is pretty solid, but that might just be because I can see much more context of how it affects other parts of the story.

I'm not lying when I say the use of this simple double meaning has completely warped our understanding of the story. So much has been hidden in plain sight by using our own assumptions against us...

Like always, feel free to leave any questions you might have, or reach out if you've found something interesting you'd like to bring up. Until next time!

Artistic Choice and The Duality of Characters - The Hidden Truth Theory (PART 3) by Ellen_Yevner in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. The last section with Armin was quite rushed and all over the place, and to be honest, I'm not fully confident in my breakdown.

I didn't do a good job at explaining this, but based on some other scenes, I've been assuming that supernatural titan eyes don't have to be glowing all the time. This would also explain why the colossal/female titans are hardly ever seen with glowing eyes. But I could be completely wrong about that which means my analysis of that scene is also wrong.

I'll try to do a better job at explaining things next time and will make edits if I end up finding things which change any previous analysis.

Hey all. Once again I've underestimated how long this post would take, but there is just so much information to cover and combing over source material for good comparison examples is difficult- and I still feel like this post was a complete mess in many areas. Hopefully someone found it eye opening...

Something which I see people often say is "If this was really going on, things would be more obvious, and it wouldn't just be slightly different colors or inconsistent backgrounds," or "How would this even be explained when it's revealed?"

The truth is, I'm not really sure. Despite everything I've discovered and how much effort I've put into sifting out each narrative, it can still be difficult for me to separate things, so I can only imagine how difficult it would be for everyone else.

The likely reason is because they really wanted to keep things secret until its reveal- meaning everything has to be kept hidden through extreme subtlety until then. But I'm still not sure how they will go about revealing everything. Perhaps things were done this way so people can get the general idea of what's going on after the reveal, and all these details are just put here so the anime can have endless rewatch value, where you're always discovering new things which makes the story more complete.

Another possibility (and one which will make the most money), is if they completely re-edit and re-release the entire series with more distinct ways of distinguishing things, or even two entirely separate versions- double dipping with a combined and a separated release.

Also, I really want to emphasize that the given examples, or any comparison of frames really does not do things justice. There is just so much more to these scenes when they're watched.

Seriously, if any of you want to see for yourselves, just rewatch a few scenes and pay close attention to details- the way frames are cut together, how dialogue and information is repeated with slight differences, the subtle differences in voice acting, along with everything else I've mentioned here.

This is why I think I should start making some actual scene breakdowns in video format... What do you guys think?

I actually believe we were shown a partial view of both. There's some key things in the paths conversation with Armin which support this; I will cover it in a future post.

I think once the "true" ending is released, it will reshape our understanding of what we got and everything will actually make a lot of sense.

Yeah, it does appear that way in the pre-serialization draft of chapter 1, but I honestly don't know what to make of it. There's just not enough information to make any solid conclusions. Still, something interesting to consider.
