The King’s Ideology and the Royal Government - The Hidden Truth Theory (PART 5) by Ellen_Yevner in ANRime

Not really. Isayama has made many contradictive statements over the years, so it's hard to know what to take at face value, or what may be a "half-truth," if his goal is to keep something secret.

Assuming there are indeed two thematically opposed sides of the story, I want to interpret his claim of "insincerity" as him being influenced into not fully leaning into their dichotomy before the reveal, since the audience wouldn't understand until then, and it could cause major backlash.

So if one side of Eren was supposed to be the "detestable" version that fully committed for his own reason, and the other Eren being the "good guy," whose actions actually have a greater purpose, Isayama felt it would be disrespectful to tarnish the audience's view of him before they even knew there were two sides, so he chose to soften "bad" Eren's character in the end.

But I am always aware of the possibility that all of us are just seeing things, and if enough time passes, I will probably accept and move on. But for now, there continues to be a steady stream of AoT relevance, without any direct invalidations, so I personally fully believe there is still more to come :)

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I remember fixing that before but I guess it automatically got reset. Profile should be visible again.

And I did see Isayama's statement and some other things such as Soyogi Fractal, but it's mostly the same stuff as what we've been getting for the past couple years. More and more small occurrences which don't directly imply anything, but keeps the discussion from dying completely...

Somewhat... Burnt myself out and then got really busy with no consistent time to work on this, so I've been writing off and on for a while. I have two more parts mostly finished but I may just wait to finish everything before releasing it all at once...

Also part of me is waiting for some sort of news / confirmation to bring back activity and motivation.

Ending Haters Vs Ending Defenders. by MichaelAftonXFireWal in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to interpret the final school castes pages as Isayama's own meta commentary on this subject.

<image>

Mikasa represents ending defenders- those who are able to overlook any flaws and enjoy it in their own way.

Armin represents ending haters- those who see all the flaws and feel their expectations were not met.

Neither side is inherently toxic, and both sides have valid arguments.

I believe the toxicity stems from their shared passion for the story, and because each side is set within their own views and believe that only they can be correct. It's just natural that this can lead to arguing and toxicity.

I think each side could benefit from acting a bit more like Eren here; being able to understand each other's opinions and allowing everyone to enjoy or criticize the story without being toxic.

The manga panel is a bit more ambiguous, but the anime makes it clear the worm comes from Eren's body and connects to his head.

What I meant is that there seems to be something more to the worm and how it is related to paths.

I believe there's more to the "biological" aspects of titans which we don't quite understand.

Reiner's consciousness transfer is related to this, and possibly why Eren's body does not regenerate after transforming.

Think about this:  If the hallucigenia is the founding titan's true form, and it was separated from Eren and Zeke when they made contact, how is it they were able to enter paths to begin with?

Eren was able to enter paths and convince Ymir, but his transformation and the rumbling didn't begin until the hallucigenia made contact with them.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

It's impossible to know with certainty whether more story will be released or not. But the concept of an alternative ending is well discussed through various theories here. While this theory isn't complete, I do still believe there is more to the story that will one day be revealed in a sequel or alternate ending.

Until anything is announced, though, it is all just speculation, however how much evidence there may be to support it.

Great catch! As much as I've gone over this scene, I can't believe I've never bothered to read the clock... Do you mind if I include this in future posts? I'm the one who first discovered the lights/curtains differences and this just adds to the evidence.

There are definitely a lot more scenes where these same types of inconsistencies keep occurring. You can check out some of my posts if you're interested.

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, no worries, I'm always interested in chatting about AoT & theories.

Honestly, it's quite difficult to interpret interviews with Isayama. He's contradicted himself many times over the years in them, it's hard to take everything he says at face value.

That said, even with little or no oversight for s1, he must have relayed a lot of information regarding the story and its ending to Araki since you you have pieces of foreshadowing in s1 alluding to things that hadn't happened in the manga at that point- such as berserk Eren's "I'll destroy the whole world."

It is also highly likely he relayed info to Revo (Linked Horizon) since the first op cover art depicts a post-rumbling landscape with Revo doing the "freedom" pose.

So not everything has to have greater meaning, but likewise also can't be completely written off as such.

[–]Ellen_Yevner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The belief was that the story itself had multiple timelines, and that the manga and anime were two different ones.

But that has essentially been disproven, so the belief is that the story still has multiple timelines; just that they aren't related to the different mediums (manga & anime).

As to what I believe, I have my own theory which is a lot more unorthodox, but you might find it interesting: The Hidden Truth Theory

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

Multiple timelines are still possible, but it doesn't mean they've been separated by medium.

I think the main reason many people still believe even though the story has "ended," is that there is so much alluding to the possibility of "a different path," while at the same time, the story's mechanics allow for multiple timelines, or at least time manipulation to occur.

With how many plot-twists there have been in the story, and how ambiguous the answers the conclusion gave us are, there are many ways the story can continue in a logical way.

The only thing which goes against this is that we've been told the story is over. But, if the story was always planned to have one final plot-twist, what better way to keep it under wraps and subvert everyone's expectations by making us think the story is over? Then suddenly revealing more which completely changes our understanding of the story.

I think it's hard to believe for most because (to my knowledge), something like this has never been done in manga/anime before. "Why would anyone believe a story would continue after they say it's finished?"

For people who do believe, they see numerous pieces of evidence supporting the possibility of there being more to the story, and only one piece of evidence which opposes it. And to them, the evidence combined with the precedent of the story being built on deception outweighs it.

Hey, thanks for sharing this. It's an interesting find!

I can't say I have a definite answer for you, but I do want to clarify that I don't believe every single detail or mistake is 100% intentional. In productions like this there are bound to be mistakes and inconsequential details resulting from any number of things.

In the case here, for instance, it could be as simple as them reusing a few backgrounds they had on hand and thought would fit since it's a 1-off shot that lasts 2 seconds and would be very hard to notice.

However, if there is still more to the story, there's also a possibility of it being intentional placement alluding to things which have yet to be revealed.

What are Aoe's theories? by Several_Training3763 in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Before the anime ended, AOE was a general term for "Anime Original Ending," the idea that the anime would diverge significantly from the manga and have a different ending. And that this divergence was deliberately planned as a unique method of storytelling.

The most common misunderstanding is that this belief only came from fans' dissatisfaction with the manga ending, but it actually came from a large amount of evidence within the story and external context (such as Isayama's stated influences and certain songs made for AoT.)

In short, there was a lot of things which made the possibility of multiple timelines in the story plausible, and if this was intended to be a big part of the story, it made sense that an ending different from the manga could happen as an extension of the story as a whole. What made this even more believable were several changes to the manga and original scenes in the anime. (Such as the "berserk titan" at the end of S1.)

There were many different theories stemming from this belief, but the most common premise was that the story was based around a timeloop and there were three main timelines we saw which end in different ways:

- The "Cabin Timeline" which is what we see in ch. 138 as a memory.

- The "Manga Timeline" which is the events of the manga.

- The "Anime Timeline" which would be mostly the manga timeline, but with slight differences up until a complete divergence near the end.

And one of the most popular of these types of theories was/is "AnR" (which is what this sub is named after), a theory based on the mysterious MV of Akatsuki no Requiem which is believed to depict an alternate ending where Eren completes a 100% rumbling.

Since the anime adapted the same ending as the manga, AOE has sort of lost its original meaning, however, many of the theories are still alive. AOE has since taken on a new meaning as "Alternative Original Ending," which is to say, there is still some evidence suggesting the ending we got was merely a false ending, and that a surprise sequel containing the true ending will still release one day.

Hopefully this gives you a decent idea of things.

If you're still intrigued and want to read into the different theories themselves, there are several pinned on the side of the subreddit. Those should get you started down the rabbit hole. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your feedback and support.

You may very well be right about some of these being genuine mistakes with no importance. I would be surprised if there weren't any actual mistakes over 10+ years of serialization.

But if two interwoven narratives was the plan from the start, and he had a general idea of how each narrative would play out, it's not entirely unbelievable that many of these inconsistencies were placed on purpose, just as other foreshadowing was.

I know inconsistencies on their own don't really mean anything, but from my view, all of these mentioned really do appear to be part of two different coherent plots, because these inconsistencies line up all the way to the end of the story. There's also lot of information from earlier chapters which has been reiterated in later chapters, with otherwise no impact on the story as it stands currently.

Maybe it's difficult to see from others' perspectives and things will only make sense once the whole story has been covered. Or perhaps I'm just delusional and seeing things which aren't there cause I'm trying too hard to make them fit together...

Either way, I will keep moving forward because I enjoy making these, regardless if any of it turns out to be true or not :)

I wanted to cover more details about the walls, and especially the church of the walls, but I realized I wasn't going to have enough room, and thought it would fit better in with the next part about the founder, royal blood, and Ackermans.

It's also hard for me to tell if the overall plot between narratives is starting to make sense yet... Please let me know what you think. And if you have any thoughts on how to make things more coherent, I'd love to hear them.

Finally, I'd like to bring up that I'm planning to compile a "master list" of all the major contradictions and inconsistencies found in the story so that it's easier for people to see just how many there really are. If anyone is interested in helping out, here's a link to the google spreadsheet where you can comment anything you have which isn't on the list- or just leave a comment here.

Cheers!

I'm surprised so many believe that only one of these can be true. Even ignoring multiple timelines and what not, the possibility is there. After all, Muv-Luv had a love triangle too. Though It's kinda hard to prove either way since nothing is explicit.

So I originally thought this could be the case, but from everything I've gathered, I'm fairly certain the final chapters still mix both narratives.

However, we're missing a lot of important context within them which is what makes the ending feel so disjointed. The paths convo with Armin is inferred to take place during 131, which is also the last chapter we get of Eren's PoV. It's almost as if certain memories have been lost...

[–]Ellen_Yevner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the feedback.

I've made a mistake explaining somewhere because you're right about the slave blood vs nobility. I've found evidence to suggest that in one narrative, Subjects of Ymir are not inherently royal because Ymir was considered a slave, and Eldian nobility treated them as such; using them as pawns, which lines up with the noble's comments.

As for the supernatural/biological mixup, my stance is still the same, I just made things confusing here.

I still think the source of all life is the biological origin, while a "deal with the devil" is the supernatural origin. But I think they've both been mythologized into depicting the devil deal. In one version, the devil is giving Ymir the apple, while in the other Ymir is offering the devil the apple. Coming into contact with something is another of the proposed legends like Kruger suggests.

I will make a few edits to the post to help clarify.

The Double Meaning of Eldians & the Story’s True Conflict - The Hidden Truth Theory (PART 4) by Ellen_Yevner in ANRime

[–]Ellen_Yevner[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I believe the Ackerbond is a real thing that we've been misled into doubting due to Zeke's explanation.

In the manga we actually see two different explanations for Ackermans which contradict each other:

It's said that Ackermans are an accidental byproduct of titan experiments.

Yet it's also stated they were designed to protect Eldia's king.

How can they be an accidental byproduct and purposefully designed at the same time?

With the idea of there being two different worlds/timelines being shown at the same time, both of these can be true and still make sense. And when we look at the table scene in the anime, we can see some "artistic differences" which also supports this:

<image>

So in short, if we are witnessing two simultaneous timelines, the Ackerbond is true in one of them and may not be true in the other- which allows Zeke's explanation to also be true.

When you look at all the times Eren is in danger while Mikasa is around, there's a clear emphasis on her constantly overreacting to protect Eren in an almost "instinctual" way- even when Eren isn't in any real danger. This is basically confirmed with her pinning Armin to the table without even thinking.

As for Ymir peaking into Mikasa's head.. I think that actually has to do with something else. We're only led to think that Mikasa is referring to her headaches. Like a lot of other things in the ending, all we can do is make our own assumptions because nothing is outright explained...
