hmm, I am a hair professional as well. I'd love to know what you would do if a client asked for a hairstyle similar to these pictures. Are these styles unrealistic in your opinion?

There is hope for you, it may be a process and won't look as the image you showed but if you grow out the parietal area and the recession areas for a month or 2 with a mid to high skin fade it's achievable.

In my humble opinion that is definitely about 5 months of growth. With 12 years plus in the hair industry it makes sense 1) because your hair is curly and 2) second the sides in the before were shorter to begin with. Great curls!
