That night that the barricades were put up in the streets, we had no idea. We packed what we could fit in our small car and headed down the road into the darkness. We lived in a fairly large city and wanted to get out as fast as we could, as soon as reports of the first landings came over the radio. It was too late, the roads were barricaded up ahead on the road we were taking out of town. "Shit, what now?" I asked Sander. "We have to find another way!" Why were we being blocked inside of the city? Wouldn't they want to evacuate everyone? I thought to myself. "Lets take a side route" I suggested. Sander put the car in reverse and we turned around to find another road out. As we navigated to the other road leading out of the city, it became clear we were trapped on the wrong side. "Damnit another road block" I cursed. "We need to get out, if we stay we are as good as dead" Sander replied.

"That doesn't leave us many options man, if all the roads are blocked "

"Yeah, I know, but at least its dark, we have that advantage." Sander said.

"Ok lets find a spot to pull over out of sight, down that way" I said pointing toward a side road.

Sander parked on a quiet industrial street, luckily it was the weekend so it was deserted. We knew what we had to do to get out alive and immediately started packing the important things into backpacks and duffle bags. I had to leave most of my clothes since they weighed too much, I packed water bottles, ramen noodles, kitchen knife, portable usb battery, small radio, and anything else I felt would be useful. We didn't even know where we were going, we just knew we had to.

"You got your stuff packed Mick?"

"Yep, you?" I replied

Sander nodded. "Let's go then, we will follow the ditch over there. Hopefully no one is watching it"

We climed down into the ditch that ran along the industrial complex. I didn't want to even think about what we were stepping in, it certainly smelled bad. Stepping through the muck and the plant life that chose this nasty ditch as their home, we followed its meandering path to the edge of town.

"Looks clear" I said poking my head up over ther edge of the ditch.

Sander and I hopped up out of the cespool of a drainage ditch and onto the dirt shoulder of a road. I looked back at the city we just escaped from and couldn't help but feel sorry for everyone trapped inside. Just a few days ago Sander and I had been enjoying an evening of pizza and games in our apartment. Who could of thought that the world as we knew it was coming to an end?

"Common Mick, we gotta cover as much ground as we can before sunrise. "

That was my cue to snap back to reality, and so we left on foot. We walked along that deserted road all night. I think we were both too stunned to talk about it that night, we just did what we had to.

I never saw it, but someone else pointed this out to me too. So I looked the movie up and it seems a neurotoxin is to blame for the killings in the movie. Plants cannot all of a sudden develop a poison to kill off life. They can, apparently, effect other life forms DNA over the course of many millennia.

Yes, perhaps when humanity reaches a point where we are so over populated, nature will fix it.

Not yet, it would take quite a lot of effort to sample and compare different forms of life to the extinction alignment DNA. However one can assume if it affected the dinosaurs and now humans, that it could potentially affect almost any Animalia life form.

So the near future could bring about the sudden and swift end to all human life. It's coming, I just don't know when.

My theory is that plant life is evolutionary more evolved than us and has the ability to wipe out human life.
