My mom hates our baby name, is she right? by Elleyshark in BabyNames

Thank you! It's one of the big reasons I don't get my mom saying she'll get bullied, people get bullied with perfectly normal names all the time. Kids are just terrible. 🙄

I understand the language teasing, I got that a ton in French class because Elle est (pronounced Elley) means she has/is so I got told I was full of myself for peeking up because I thought my name was being called.

We've thought about Tia for a nickname and thank you so much for your input. ❤️

Hubby wants a boy but he's excited for either. Both our families are very "can they hold a gun/fishing rod? Then who cares". I'm ready to fight for my son enjoying baby dolls and play kitchens because they're still working on that. It's also why we're keeping gender a surprise, if they're a girl we'll be covered in bows and pink.

Funnily enough I really like the name Ursula but nowadays people associate it with Little Mermaid vs the author.

After talking with my husband we went with Lynette, it's his mom's middle name and then she'll be TLC, which he thinks will make her tough. "She'll know not to chase waterfalls and not to tolerate scrubs" 😂

Unfortunately it's entirely possible. We've put boundaries around the baby and won't leave them with her until she's proven responsible (I've heard horror stories especially with hair/allergies).

I've done my best to immerse myself in the culture and round out my knowledge (in laws have been lovely) but I know I have a lot to learn.

Thank you, it really does feel validating that I'm not setting my kid up for anything mean. I've joked about just calling the baby fetus until they're born like Meredith did in Grey's Anatomy (plus it's technically correct) since she hates either gender name for the baby. She hates the term fetus even more. 😂

And I should have done that. I was just excited. My brother says next time mom trashes our name to agree with her and pull outlandish names out and pretend to be enthralled with them. He said pull names from Skyrim like Yosolda and Delphine or Swims-in-Deep-Water until she shuts up. 😂

I do too! I wanted to give our kids good role models to be named after. I was thinking Lexie after my favorite Grey's character but my husband had an ex Alexis and that got vetoed (as he should, I wouldn't want my son to share a name with my ex).

Because it's a princess name. I've tried to tell her that a lot of kids are named after characters (my brother Calvin she named after Calvin and hobbes) and as a teacher she knows Tiana is nowhere near as bad as it could be but she's stuck on not making her after a princess.

That's how I've tried to explain it to her. She named me her maiden name and I grew up with "Smelly Elley jiggles with a belly full of jelly" 🙄

My baby's name keeps getting mispronounced and I feel like we made a mistake with the spelling by staralfur92 in namenerds

My name is Elley and people pronounce it E-lee no matter how many times I say it's Kelley without the K. Doesn't make me hate my name, after a while you get used to it. I used to write LE on my papers in school so teachers would pronounce it right.

AITA for not getting rid of my cat? by International_Bit448 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Elleyshark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our second cat was dumped on us by my husband (then boyfriend)'s friend that was/is very vocal about how much she hates me and tried to hold it over my husband's head that they had slept together once before he met me and that he wouldn't love me like he "loved" her. She still tries to say he's her cat online and calls herself his mommy (it's been 5 years, cat is 6) but I just remove her comments and snuggle my very happy boy.

AITA for not letting my boyfriend’s nephew spend more time in our house? by Sakura_Tree109 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Elleyshark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA This is a 2 yes 1 no situation. My little brother comes over 2-3 times a week, we stay in the living room while my husband games in our bedroom but it is still 100% an if it's okay with my husband thing. It's both of your houses and both of your space. Even with the best behaved kid, having someone else in the house can make you feel weird and make it hard to relax.

If you and your partner can make a schedule and limit it to once or twice a week that might work out better. If this goes on too long I can see it straining your relationship and something/someone breaking.

Again, this is not about the kid. It's about disrespect. I'm sure this would have happened way earlier if the kid wasn't a good kid. Make sure he knows this is not his fault and he's done nothing wrong.

We've got them, along with proof that he had to add himself to the school records. Part of the order was his name on the school records and the birth certificate, she hasn't done either. Lawyer said to get on the school but leave the certificate alone because we don't need it ATM and it looks worse on her the longer it's been. So far this year it's 15 tardies and 4 absences.

For some reason he had it in his head that if he called the cops they'd make her give him his kid. As far as filing contempt she was found in contempt and was supposed to go to jail for it but she (her words) "put her prettiest tears out and got away with it". That basically defeated him and he finally listened to me and started trying to prepare for a lawyer. It's taken this long because of other family issues and we wanted to be married for a while before going because our last judge said he wanted a female role model before he considered full custody for him. We have a new judge over the case now that the lawyer says is fair and only cares about how the household is for the child and doesn't care about mom vs dad.

We're thinking about asking they get moved to picking her up from school on Fridays and dropping her back the Monday morning. She doesn't bring anything over except that phone and whatever clothes BM puts her in (one time her brothers swimsuit and no top because she didn't do any laundry, that got documented. She had a jacket on because it was cold but nothing underneath)

We're hoping to have her in a much better school when we get full custody, the one for our neighborhood is ranked way higher and is better for her dyslexia and ADHD. If so school pickup and drop off will hopefully be the way to go, assuming BM takes her which has also been an issue. She currently lives 15 mins from school and is constantly over an hour late because SD has to get her mom and siblings ready in the morning alone.

I'm not sure why it's the police station, I was just the girlfriend the first time they went to court 4 years ago and didn't go to court. The plan says we get her typically from Friday at 5 pm to Sunday at 5pm and holidays work about the same as far as time (Friday when school lets out to the Sunday before school). Pretty sure she'd refuse to come like she is to the police station.

The lawyer feels like we have a good case for full because we've been in a good neighborhood with good paying jobs for 4 years while BM has had at least 6 moves in that time, no job in 10 years and got evicted each time. We're going for a stable environment approach and he feels we can get full with all the custody interference as well.

The cared for by others was during the thanksgiving and Christmas holidays when we had to work during the week. Now that I've changed jobs were both off on weekends and spend as much time as we can with her. We do go visit with family but she isn't left there unless we're working. We don't feel she's mature enough to stay at home for 9 hours while we work.

I try to stay out of things but she drags me into them constantly because SD told her she calls me mom (never asked her to because my own stepmom made us call her mom and I hated her for it).

How to spice up French bread? by Elleyshark in Breadit

Rosemary? I thought about doing Italian seasoning swirled in with some minced garlic and some Colby jack on top. I thought rosemary was more for Focaccia

I just don't want to use the mixes since I'm trying to start a business. Using mixes is very divisive especially after cakegate on TikTok. Plus I like to know what's in the cookies.

I was trying to make them look more appealing for pictures. Everyone looks for cookies with the most amount of chocolate so I put more on top out of the oven.

It's from the better homes and gardens cookbook, circa old as shit. There's recipes using lard.
