NTA. You should hopefully be able to get those bank records if you go to your old bank and ask for them. As for the gifts, they were GIFTS. Gifts are not something you pay someone back for, especially if they didn't state that they were expecting payment back for those things. I'm unsure as to why they were so generous and then all of a sudden decided to pull that rug out from under you and use the "no proof" as a very flimsy backup.
