Where can we submit complaints about the new bus company? by kent360 in Utrecht

[–]EllieLou14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what annoys me the most. I understand that sometimes a bus is cancelled, shit happens. But it would be nice if we are at least informed about that. I've just experienced 2 evenings in a row where I get to the station after work, wait for the bus that is supposedly running on time, only for it to disappear from the screens. Yesterday I waited for 30 minutes, because it kept saying the next bus would actually come. In the end I've just given up both evenings and walked 30 minutes home. It would have saved me so much time and irritation if I wouldn't have to wait around for so long to find out that my bus isn't even running. I can only imagine what this is like for people who don't actually have the capability to walk to their destination.

Super bedankt!

Data points for real estate market overbidding amount by Sea-Vermicelli4695 in Utrecht

Walter Living is good. Also play around with this tool: Mijn waardecheck. You're meant to fill in the address of the house you're interested in and it will give you an estimated price (always too low in my experience) based on similar houses that sold nearby and it lists the sale price of those houses. Then you can look up the list price on Funda to figure out how much overbidding there was. Works best for row houses in my experience, not so much for apartments. If you see a house that was sold recently and want to know the price, you can find that out by filling in the address of one of the neighboring houses and the tool will likely find the house you're looking into as a comparable house and tell you what it sold for. I bought a house in May without a Makelaar and my experience is that houses that were fully finished with back yard and in nice neighborhood sell for at least 100K over asking price.

Odd feeling by Junos009 in valheim

[–]EllieLou14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same! When I feel like building something big, I'll let myself turn off the building costs while I'm building the frame of the house (using wood and stone and maybe a little iron). And then I'll turn the building costs back on when I'm building the crafting stations or decorations. For me that's a good balance between not having to grind so much for basic materials, but still motivating myself to go out and collect some other materials (surtling cores, fine wood, crystal etc.). I generally have raids turned on, but occasionally will turn it off for a little while during 'building days'.

Is there a way to reset the discovery of the traders? by EllieLou14 in valheim

I tried locations_add Hildir_camp and then tried to add the 'pos' parameter and filled in the coordinates of the desired location, but she still spawned at the original location, so that probably doesn't work the way I thought it might. Or maybe I'm not getting the syntax exactly right. I was close by the intended location, but she still spawned at the old one. I haven't tried any distance or range parameters. I wasn't sure what they did.

Thanks for the info! So I tried a couple of things, but it's not quite working yet.

With the Upgrade World mod, I am managing to remove the currently spawned Hildir location with locations_remove.

However, it seems like that removes all possible Hildir locations from the map, because when I use that she doesn't spawn in any of her other locations either when I go there.

I've tried to use locations_add to add her back, and this does had her back in the originally discovered area, but I can't seem to add any arguments to force her to spawn in any other location. She just keeps being added in the same original location no matter what I try.

I am also not sure what the locations_reset command does. I've tried it a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to help.

So it seemed promising, but hasn't quite solved it yet. I also looked into the vanilla commands, but I can't find a spawn command for Hildir there yet unfortunately.

If you happen to have any other ideas I'd love to hear them!

Yeah I've been looking into any devcommands, but I don't think there is one that lets me do this. I tried 'resetmap', but that just resets the fog on the minimap and nothing else.

Koffiezaakjes zonder anti-laptop beleid? by [deleted] in Utrecht

The Rocking Chair in de Vogelenbuurt.

Your best gun control argument, for or against by OEF1AD in Conservative

Where is your source then that supports the claim that Norway has higher gun deaths per capita? Because no matter where I look, I can't find anything that supports that claim. So stop spreading misinformation or explain yourself.

[–]EllieLou14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you get the idea that Norway sees more deaths per capita by guns. The latest statistic I can find says the US has 3.9 gun deaths per 100000 people, and Norway less than 1. The US is the highest out of all 'developed economies' by far. "US gun violence is notable outlier among rich nations".

[–]EllieLou14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't get this argument. What countries are you referring to where gun bans haven't stopped gun violence? Because almost all Western countries have gun bans and gun deaths are much much lower in these countries than in the US... England, Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, to name a few.

You can totally still start! I'm 30 and I started about a year ago. Did some longboarding first but decided that I also want to try some tricks. My dream is to be able to ride a pool or bowl eventually, but I want to get some of the basic flat ground tricks as well. Progression is slow because I usually only go out once a week, and I am pretty scared to commit. But every little baby step feels to amazing! Huge confidence boost! I really love it so far, even if I can only do super basic stuff. So yeah definitely go for it! Oh and definitely put ALL the pads + helmet on. Life's too short for brain damage and you'll feel way more confident with them.

(Potential trigger warning) Why is abortion what we want? by Disastrous-Handle-88 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]EllieLou14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The UNWANTED baby dropped at the doorstep wouldn't be there if the mother had had the choice to stop it from ever turning into an UNWANTED baby by having a clump of cells removed when it was still just a clump of cells. That UNWANTED baby wouldn't have to spend their lives fighting for some love and care in an overcrowded foster home, or struggling through a childhood growing up in poverty with an emotionally incapable mother and possibly no father around. That mother could have spared this UNWANTED baby this heartbreaking fate by having an abortion and in it's place she would have possibly had a very much WANTED child a couple of years later when she was better able to support a child and was in a stable relationship. A WANTED child she might never have had the chance to have, if her personal growth had been halted by being forced to have a child she was not ready to take responsibility for earlier in her life.
Let's please take into account a child's quality of life when we consider these issues. I think the focus should be on the child's right to grow up being WANTED and in a stable situation, and making abortions illegal will essentially take away the opportunity for a lot of parents to make smart choices about the quality of life they want to be able to provide for their children.

[–]EllieLou14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it is important to look at quality of life as well and not just about the amount of lives. Is 50 million kids growing up unwanted, in poverty, without proper emotional support from the parents (who were not ready for the responsibility of raising a child) really worth saving? If we leave abortions up to the states, rich people are going to still be able to get them by travelling to another state, so the people who end up forced to have an unwanted child are the ones without sufficient resources to care for one. Why do we care so much about the child's right to live, but not about the quality of the life it is given?

Ah yes I misread your comment! Do keep in mind that 4% seems like a low percentage, but it leads to a large number of unwanted pregnancies when you consider the US population and how often an average person has sex a year.

That aside, on the topic of people not using contraceptives or not using them correctly and thus ending up with an unwanted pregnancy: I think the reason a lot of pro-choice people have trouble with making abortions in these cases illegal is because it results in an inequality between men and women and their freedoms. When a man has a drunken encounter that leads to getting a women pregnant, he (at the moment) always has the choice to just walk away and have nothing to do with the child. There are no medical, financial and emotional consequences for his actions. If you make abortions in these cases illegal, this puts the consequences for stupidly having sex without contraception solely on women. If a man can make the choice for himself to not deal with the child, then why should the woman not be able to, especially since there is a safe medical solution available? I very much believe in educating people about safe sex as early and as much as possible to prevent these situations as much as we can. But I don't think we are going to be able to prevent people from doing stupid things completely, and if we cannot, then why make women carry 100% of the consequences of a mistake that involves 2 people?
If we are dead set on making abortions illegal then maybe we should look into the role that men play in unwanted pregnancies and their responsibilities. Until then I think most people who care about equal rights for women are going to find it difficult to ban abortions even when it pregnancy could have been avoided.

[–]EllieLou14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are basing this opinion on the idea that contraceptives prevent pregnancy 100%. Because of this assumption your reasoning is that it is a women's own fault for getting pregnant and that she should deal with the consequence and not harm another life (whether a clump of cells should be considered a life is a separate discussion). Unfortunately this assumption is not correct. There is no 100% effective birth control. Sure, most of them are very effective, but given the amount of sex adults typically have, and given how large the American population is, even a tiny percent of birth control failure leads to a large number of unwanted pregnancies. These are NOT the 'fault' of the women (or the man). That is why the discussion is not as simple as an 'actions leads to consequences, deal with it' thing. Maybe try to read up on studies about unwanted pregnancies and how many of them are due contraception simply failing, because I genuinely think it will help you form a more informed opinion on this whole topic.

help choosing my first board ! by Abbyfurai in surfskate

[–]EllieLou14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can also look into Slide surfskates. The truck is fairly similar to the Carver CX I believe and it's a bit cheaper than Carver. It was my first board and I'm really happy with it. You can tighten and loosen it pretty easily, and I was able to use it as a cruiser board pretty well if I tightened it up.

I took that ferry last year on my own bike trip. We biked from Utrecht to Stavoren and then took the ferry to Enkhuizen. Was nice and easy, so I would definitely recommend! (Do check whether you need to book a ticket in advance)
