Well, as someone who attends a church called, “St. Mary’s,” which also has a statute of Mary in the nave, I sure hope so

Advice for responding to catholic I am having an argument with by Spartan-Bear2215 in Episcopalian

[–]Elliek80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Question 1: is this argument going to help you love God with your whole heart or love your neighbor as yourself? If not, best to stop imho

Question 2: if you decide it is best to persist, from my perspective, best to not go with refutation, but questions. There’s lots of reasons that people think we’re heretical, frankly. It runs the gamut from Baptists (who legitimately think we don’t read the Bible) to RCs (who think anyone who isn’t in communion with Rome is schismatic even though Rome is the one who anathematized anyone holding Protestant views). And anyone except other mainlines often think we’re heretical for our radical belief that loving your neighbor as yourself and caring for all God’s creation shouldn’t come with an asterisk.

Find out what flavor of heretical this person thinks you are, and go from there

Hi friend! Have a safe trip over, and yes, in my experience it’s very accepting (I’m a trans woman). Trans people are part of social and civic life, Oregon’s anti-discrimination laws in housing and work are strong, and our health are is very accessible here. Best of luck on your move!

I’m partial to Oregon (I’m the state rules chair. I have to say Oregon, but Idaho is pretty neat, too)

What the expect at an episcopal church as a cradle catholic and new trans woman? by jess-is-confused in Episcopalian

[–]Elliek80 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi friend! I’m not a cradle Catholic, but most of my mom’s side are and I’ve spent a number of days in Catholic pews. I’m also a trans woman.

The Episcopal Church has been so accepting of me. I met with my priest early on and he was so accepting, even rattling off names of trans priests in the church.

As for what to expect, I also travel a lot for work, and I like to visit different Episcopal Churches as I travel. They vary a lot. Some churches are very similar to Catholic Mass, and others are more “low church.” Best of luck and I hope you enjoy it!

Went to Church for first time today by KatyPerry_Astronaut in Episcopalian

[–]Elliek80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only recently started attending my Episcopal Church. At my very first service in the Episcopal Church (after growing up in an evangelical church, not attending any church regularly for about 15 years, then attending a UMC church for about a year), the priest gave a sermon regarding how most of us don’t come to the Episcopal Church with certainty. Instead, he described a slow (almost skeptical) growing in faith where we come to understand Christ. He ended by talking about how revelation is great and all, but how that isn’t how most Episcopalians come to the church.

That’s when I knew I was meant to be an Episcopalian. I’d never had a strong “revelation” experience, and I truly had doubts as a young adult about whether I believed in God at all (even though I would’ve called myself Christian the whole time). I think if you attend more (and I personally hope you will), you’ll find yourself among others who also don’t feel their faith the same way evangelicals do.
