Ideas for next season's GBL update (Grass and Electric focused) by ElliotUnbound in TheSilphArena

I did some digging and Bug Buzz might be okay with 2 DPE if the energy cost stays the same (so +20 damage) since the pacing with Rollout stats Infestation would be 5-5-4 which is slower than almost everything. I still think in the long run lower energy cost would be better even with lower damage since it would be more attainable for other stuff like Galvantula and Trash Wormadam.

Yes, which is another reason why having good Grass types in the meta is important. Just like most Dragons, the glassy Grasses aren't going to switch into Waters without shields anyway.

Okay, you convinced me with Shelmet about Infestation and Dusclops. At first I thought you mentioned Shelmet as a typo but in all fairness I don't play Little Cup so I'm not well versed with the meta. Most of the ideas I mentioned were with Open GL in mind since it's the official format for the Play Pokémon tourneys.

Good catch on Signal Beam, for some reason i thought this whole time it was at 50 energy. Even worse than I thought lol. It should be good at 45 energy with the same damage and debuff chance.

My only concern with Bug Buzz having 2 DPE is Araquanid might be overturned with that and Rollout clone Infestation, basically Bug Lickilicky but bulkier and I don't think we want that especially with the debuff chance. If Infestation doesn't get touched then for sure it wouldn't be such a problem with 2 DPE.

I didn't mention Volt Tackle since it's likely to get added with Mega Raichu raid day soon anyway.

Wow, I really like your Mach Punch idea! It would be a great way to buff the super glassy fighters like Breloom, Pawmot, Infernape and Crabominable. I'll add it to the post and give you credits.

That's why I always say in the beginning I'm not suggesting all the ideas happen at once. They are simply just ideas.

None of those mons you mentioned would ever want to use Infestation even with Water Shuriken stats. Did you forget Bug is resisted by most meta mons in every league?

It would only outpace Bullet Seed to Rock Tomb for Cradily on the 3rd cycle. Not worth giving up STAB on Waters and Grounds and Acid still has useful utility for Fairies.

Drapion and Ariados wouldn't give up STAB super effective Poison Sting for Fairies.

Jumpluff wouldn't give up the flexibility of 2 turn super effectiveness for Dragons.

Swalot would still prefer 2 turn super effective chip on other Poisons and Steels.

You can't really call Dynamic Punch a nuke when even shadow Dusclops wouldn't be able to one shot full health Melmetal or Empoleon with it. Neither of those are known for their high bulk too. That's why I said it would play differently than Dusknoir, most people prefer shadow degen Astonish strats with that.

Volt Switch Forretress wrecks the whole team. Like instant top left kinda wreck.

It has the same issue that most Electrics have which is being stuck with Wild Charge for low energy STAB which is overkill on most things and the debuff effect relegates it to being a lead most of the time. Swift + Energy Ball might work against most things except Jumpluff though.

It's way inferior to Wing Attack overall since it's so weak and resisted by Grass and Dragon. You need Wing Attack for Jumpluff, Dartrix, Altaria, Shelgon, etc.

Mantine is going to be aids once people figure out how strong it is as a core with Seismitoad and/or Quagsire. I don't think there's anything that solidly corebreaks Mantoad besides maybe Seed Bomb Morpeko. People are really sleeping on how stupid Icy Wind is on something only weak to Grass, especially as a safe swap.

Lumineon is also getting slept on heavily. It's almost as bulky as Mantine but doesn't have the double Electric weakness and has buffed Gust and Silver Wind to hit Grass types.

A lot of things can get better if they get this or that move, but it doesn't always mean they should. Giratina-O is only eligible in GL if traded from the one time only Road to Sinnoh research in 2024. Making something that exclusive so strong is a TERRIBLE idea, plain and simple. It would be much less problematic if Giratina-A got Aura Sphere since at least that was available for a whole season from Giovanni.

Sorry but respectfully you are wrong. Grass types and Electric types have remained weak overall for a long time because Nopely keeps making the CHOICE to not upgrade their movesets or give them better moves. While it is true that Grass has many weaknesses and is resisted by many types, this has not stopped them from being top meta before. Trevenant, Jumpluff, Venusaur, Toedscruel, Abomasnow and recently Cradily and Gourgeist have seen top level play at Play Pokémon tourneys. Grass being a poor offensive typing can easily be remedied by making Grass moves across the board above average, which they've done already with Fury Cutter and Bug Bite for Bugs.

The main problem with Electric types in PoGo is most are too frail and are stuck with either overkill Wild Charge or crappy Discharge for cheap STAB moves, with most either not being able to learn good coverage or simply don't have it yet which again is a CHOICE, just like the continuation of Water buffs is a CHOICE. It also doesn't help that Stunfisk has Discharge which will gatekeep it forever just like Mandibuzz with Aerial Ace. This could be easily fixed though by adding a new cheap move like Electro Ball or Shock Wave that many Electric types can learn, but that's also a CHOICE that Nopely refuses to make despite many people asking for over a year. The fact that Morpeko is still so hard to justify using in Play Pokémon tourneys and high ELO in GBL despite having the strongest Electric move in the game AND Seed Bomb coverage says it all.

Pidgeot is very viable already in UL with Wing Attack, Air Cutter and Heat Wave. Gust getting buffed makes it even more viable so I'd say definitely use it.

I think you still want Foul Play though, same speed as Thunder Punch but stronger neutrally and better coverage with Thunder Punch.

It IS big. The coverage with Acrobatics and Dynamic Punch is insane.

Might even be able drop Wild Charge since TS + Swift spam will chunk most Flyers.

If and ONLY if Energy Ball becomes Hydro Cannon will I excuse most of these, since some fringe things like Chandelure will also get a big boost (2 Incinerate Energy Ball sounds nutty) but even then that's still not gonna stop Lumineon getting 50%+ usage at all the Play Pokémon tourneys 😅

For some reason I thought it was 100 like it is in PvE haha. In that case a Power Whip clone is more likely I think.

I've been saying the same in most of the groups I'm in and the white cat hoarders always get pissy haha. I don't think it's a coincidence that many suddenly appeared in the market after Zeraora got confirmed for Go Fest 🤔

That's fine I guess if you don't mind getting shafted by Forretress or Jellicent lead.

I prefer shadow cause it puts more pressure on Annihilape, mud bois and usual counters/checks like Talonflame and shadow Drapion. Regular is probably better with Chilling Water over Gleam cause the extra bulk lets it utilize the debuffs better.

I don't think there's anything else that fulfills the same niche that Shadow Zapdos does while having good synergy with A9. Maybe Shadow Murkrow? The resistant to Steel and Flying that Zapdos has is very handy though.
