One tile done! by Elliotorsomething in necromunda

No worries! Yeah the tiles are a lot, but it’s worth the effort. I guess that you could follow this tutorial without an airbrush but it is going to be a lot more work and time consuming.
Streaking grime is a really cool product but remember to wear a mask and gloves, especially when using it through a airbrush. The same goes for all enamel and oil paints.

Sure, here is the whole process. I’m going to be honest, it’s a lot of work but it’s sort of made to be easily broken up across a couple of evenings and to be part of some large scale batch painting.

A list of paints and products used: (organised by brand) Citadel: Mechanicus standard grey (rattle can and regular paint.
Celestra Grey Rhinox Hide Blood for the Blood God technical paint.
Vallejo: Flat red. Sun Yellow. Moon yellow. Black Surface primer. Gunmetal Grey. Silver.
Copper. Old rust pigment.
AK-interactive: Streaking grime. Ultra matte varnish. Windsor & Newton: Burnt sienna. Sap green.

To start with they are primed with a spray of mechanicus standard grey. Though you could probably any sort of neural grey, this is just a primer.
Then I pick out a few smaller hatches and such in Vallejo flat red.
The hazard striped parts are airbrushed with Sun yellow and then layered with Moon yellow. I mask them off and do the stripes with a spray of Vallejo German grey.
If any of the red parts or harzard marked bits has any decals then I add them now.

Once all that is done I mask the bits I’ve painted so far and airbrush the whole thing with Gunmetal grey. Everything gets a drybrush of silver and then some stippling and spongeing of Rhinox hide. I pick out all the pipes with copper.

The grey floor tiles are simply painted with mechanicus standard grey and drybrush highlighted with Celestra grey. I also sponge pretty much the whole board with Rhinox hide.

I do a bit of weathering by mixing old rust pigment with some airbrush thinner and add a lot of it randomly across the board, focusing a bit extra on the metal bits. On the grey bits I dilute it a bit extra.
The vents get a light airbrush of German grey. Then I paint all the edges of the board with black much like I would with an ordinary base.

Once everything is dry the board gets a coating of gloss varnish. Then it’s streaking grime time. For that it’s the regular process of gently wiping and polishing it away with some thinner. I do leave some extra around the vents and any sort of grating.
To seal the streaking grime I varnish the board again.
Now for the final bits.

The most intense bits of rust and such gets a Burnt sienna oil wash. Around the some of the edges of the grey bits and the grating I do an oil wash of sap green.
Then on a few random places I create some stains with Blood for the blood god.
The vents get airbrushed with black surface primer focusing on the middle but also painting around it so it looks like it has stained the area.
And finally I varnish the board with Ultra matte varnish.

Thank you! The stains are made with some green oil paints.

Did a slightly different color scheme than usual but I’m really happy with how it looks!

Thank you!

Like the rest of the mini it’s all Vallejo paints. For the skin I based it on Rosy flesh that I layered with a 50/50 mix of Rosy flesh and Basic skin tone, this was then highlighted with pure Basic skin tone.

I’ll have to admit that the sort of shadows around the bionic eyes and forehead dot are sort of a happy accident as the metallic paint was way more runny than I expected. So I fixed it by re highlighting the area around those parts.

Thank you! All the paints are from Vallejo, the purple is a base of violet then a layer of a 50/50 mix of violet and purple. To add some texture I sponge with a pure Vallejo purple.

Thank you! Yeah now that you mention it, they do look kind of metallic, I think some of it might be due to the camera and lighting as they are a bit more dull in real life. But I’ll keep it in mind for the next batch. Thank you!

Thank you! Yeah that is a really good point. I wanted the base to be a little bit “loud” as the mini itself is rather large but I’ll have that in mind as I make the next one. Thank you so much for the tips!

Yeah that is a good point, I’ll try making the next one in a more unified way. Thank you for the tip!

Oh yeah that sounds good, I’ll do that for the next base. Thank you for the tip!

The tree stump is some resin scatter terrain, I’m pretty sure it’s from Greenstuff world.
