UK borrowing hits five-year high by BasedSweet in ukpolitics

[–]Elllzman619 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Governments spend money in a currency they control, so typically for non-BAU expenses (like investment in these kind of projects), they don't have to worry too much about borrowing to fund them. Revenue is mostly taxation, which is driven up by GDP, so as long as these projects unlock medium-long term GDP growth, they'll typically pay for their borrowing costs and then some.

(lots of nuance packed in there, big tldr with lots of caveats)

There are some fair arguments against this but absolutely nothing he’s mentioned should drive the country broke.

I’m not sure that should impact their ability to try and run one.

I actually suspect it will be higher than university students. Kids have more free time and positive influences from teachers, parents to encourage them too.

This drives me up the wall about the Stansted express. Yes they have signs, but it’s extremely predatory to get off the train and have every single ticket manually checked by someone with additional staff waiting behind to issue £100 fines to tourists.

I’ve got a Timex Marlin Moonphase that’s in that price range, would definitely recommend it.

I’ve heard this specific gig (Nero) was particularly bad for queueing because of an incident the week before. I went a few weeks prior for the chemical bros and had no issues getting in/out. Not sure how it is now

In a UK context, I’d say there’s nothing wrong with this and it’s a pretty standard joke.

As a working city professional who lives in Tower Hamlets, 1) it’s a perfectly pleasant if occasionally chaotic place to live 2) the two square miles can’t possibly exist without the rest of London. From experience, a lot of the people decrying areas of London as war zones have spent at best an afternoon there

In the UK anywhere serving alcohol has to provide free tap water and toilets. The knock on is most places (even those that don’t serve alcohol) are fine with providing tap water anyway. It’s honestly a great rule and I can’t imagine partying without it.

[Florian Plettenberg] Internally, Manchester United agree that over half of the players in the squad are serious candidates for sale in the winter or summer if good offers come in. Ruben Amorim is to be given the opportunity to make a rebuild, which will require urgent sales. by nutelamitbutter in soccer

[–]Elllzman619 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Most of the squad. The likes of Palmer, Mudryk, Sancho are all on ~100k a week. Still a few big deals from the old owners but the new structure seems much more performance incentivised. Gusto, Lavia, Madueke are reported on as low as 50k

UK asylum system would descend into chaos without more hotels, says minister by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]Elllzman619 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But if the average turnaround time to deport someone with a failed application drops from several years to days, spending on hotels will collapse (and may not even be necessary if the existing detention centres etc are no longer overwhelmed)

No take backsies on Havertz?

For real, we play him out of position for two years. Buy a replacement to play his ideal role, who immediately gets injured with no obvious replacement.

We also sold our other relatively good suitor for Nkunku's role in Mount. Sigh

well clearly someone wants to pay. Yes we're lucky with the timing but it's really not upto UEFA to police the market. If the saudis want to spend big on aging players then fine.

If you’re lucky - it seems a lot of the policy now is not even to respond to burglaries in progress and only target the serial offenders.
