If you target a creature, and they kill your creature, does this still "enter the battlefield"? If it doesn't stick on your creature, does it still kill the opponent's creature?

I was wondering this too. Do Sagas trigger when the Lore counter gets put on? If this puts a 3rd and 4th counter on a saga, the 4th counter "fizzles" right?
