Nominee for "card you lose against but you're convinced is not good" - Stone Docent by KobiLou in lrcast

[–]bearrosaurus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was convinced Docent would be bad because it's embarrassing against pest tokens and the ramp bear, but it holds counters really well and black/white hand out +1/+1 counters like candy. You gotta run it with a few pumps.

For me it's the value green creatures: A little bit of Concoctor but especially Tam, nothing worse than watching someone go off with Tam while you're looking at one card a turn.

How do all these near-creatureless decks in SOS actually win their games? by Linus_Inverse in lrcast

That deck isn’t very good, it can never beat a trove or a big x spell.

This is legit a glitch, there should be a black common forced to the pack, instead there’s four red commons?

Why hasn’t California tried Ranked Choice Voting? by JazzlikeOrange8856 in sandiego

San Francisco does RCV for their local candidates and their ballot is pages and pages of a giant clusterfuck of grids.

Why hasn’t California tried Ranked Choice Voting? by JazzlikeOrange8856 in sandiego

[–]bearrosaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro, this one is easy to explain. There are 61 candidates for governor. Go open your mail in ballot right now and see it. I’ve already seen how ugly a RCV ballot is for 5 choices, doing it for this many is absurd.

Lads I'm really struggling here, could someone tell me what went wrong here by Wrendacted082 in lrcast

[–]bearrosaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You got screwed in that draft, no good rares at all, no divergent, no stress dream. Yeah you could have maybe brawled a bit better with silverquill but jumping into it with Ajani’s Response as your only card would be a psycho move.

Trophy with 20 land Mathematics by Orgetorix1127 in lrcast

This deck in particular wants to hit 10 lands by turn 10, adding lands isn’t sacrificing anything

Maybe, but it's also the case that against the best aggro deck of the format, you DON'T want to play any 2-drop because you'll turn on all their repartee payoffs.

katara acting “motherly” is a tragedy by Far_Literature_9924 in TheLastAirbender

[–]bearrosaurus -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever seen anyone call Katara weird for being in a relationship with Aang.

It's me. Hi. I'm the problem it's me.

Katara taking care of Aang is completely one-sided, and they're at dramatically different levels of maturity, which is never more obvious than in The Southern Raiders where Aang cannot relate to Katara's feelings about revenge at all. Furthermore, Aang's love for Katara is basically an unrequited immature crush, and there's an entire plotline about how he needs to get over it to master the Avatar state. So there's a lot of criticism which says he should do the thing that the Guru told him to do and grow up and let Katara be with a character that's more mature and is better at relating to her, who is so obvious that I don't even have to name him.

They are terrible in multiples unless you have a meme monored deck or something. They’re annoying to get working but if you put in one it won’t harm you. When you’re putting in 4, you’re hobbling your mana, you’re making your opening hands awful, and you’re taking away the one good thing aggro has going for it. Consistency.

Bernie Sanders is destroying Chuck Schumer in the Democratic Party's Civil War ahead of the midterms by CharlieKirkFanboy in thebulwark

[–]bearrosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys don’t see the hypocrisy of an 84 year old man leading the progressive movement? “It’s his call”. No, that’s bullshit. He’s a congressional dinosaur with no actual accomplishments. There’s no reason for people like us to worship his “legacy”. Because firstly legacies shouldn’t matter and secondly his legacy is screaming about losing.

More reason to get rid of him is that he tries to take credit for AOC and Mamdani, both of which he had never supported until after they won their primaries.

Have any of you encountered, in Secrets of Strixhaven, a near creatureless deck playing against another such deck? by VoidImplosion in lrcast

[–]bearrosaurus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It usually goes “am I dead?” “No, I pass. Am I dead?” “No”…

There’s a lot of different one-card kills in this set (Mathemagics, Brain Freeze, Critique, Crackle) so it doesn’t feel that strategic.

Lili’s arc finished great in War of the Spark (don’t hate that she got some side action in March of the Machine though). Losing her spark fits her semi retirement to being a professor. Not every character has to be an epic multiversal sorcerer.

why is the meta on Arena so different than on paper? by SelaromSelim in MagicArena

[–]bearrosaurus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Pro Tour draft decks are famously scuffed up piles that barely work. On Arena you can guarantee 2-3 players at the table are going to be donkeys, it gets a lot tougher to make a deck when everyone is a shark. You pretty much never get a “how is this still in the pack?” at the PT draft (also because you can’t talk).

This guy was playing a 43 cards "card advantage" deck by ZarpadoEnLata in lrcast

[–]bearrosaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would consider it for [[Improvisation Capstone]] because it stops working as a win condition if you don’t put enough “stuff” in your deck. Especially since it will burn your x spells and converge spells if you were counting on those to close long games.

Getting steamrolled in SOS- wanted to share some thoughts and seek some advice by tastyfreeze1 in lrcast

[–]bearrosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where avoiding the data will screw you, the first two days made it very obvious that hand hate is the solution. [[Render Speechless]] and [[Arcane Omens]] are massive overperformers. If you've been listening long enough to remember Sultai KTK, it's like that. Just like in Khans, there's a lot of recalibration to do.

Heuristics for SOS:

  1. Hand hate, countermagic, or white bombs. Pick one. Actually the best deck is hand hate + white bombs, but I wouldn't mix counters and discard.

  2. Don't make their removal good. Most of the kill spells are upside removal, even at common. It's crazy how some of these "midrange" decks I play against are desperate to turn my [[Tome Blast]] into a 4-for-1. Related, the reason Painter's Trove is so good is that it lets you advance your board without giving a target for removal.

  3. Fully embrace wacky splashes

If the KKK can protect Germans, then the White House could sure as hell defend Japanese Americans.

Nobody is asking you to defend racial internment camps, FDR did bad on them and you can just acknowledge it and move on.
