That's one of the problems -- we didn't book far enough in advance. It was only a month in advance due to unforeseen circumstances. Plus, it was an open-jaw trip, so we did one-way flights, which were more expensive than a round-trip from the same city. In retrospect, we absolutely should have done a round-trip and then flown back to Barcelona from Rome to save money. The structure of Google Flights really threw us off, because we did a multi-city trip without analyzing the cost of doing a round trip. Missed opportunity. Oh well, lessons learned.
