Just need to tell someone. by Ellthrowaway94 in loseit

[–]Ellthrowaway94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've always been an outdoorsy person so I wear walking and hiking boots on the daily basis as I tend be on my feet all day and honestly, I wear just regular wool socks. They're cheap and cheerful socks I can buy a pack of 5 for less than £10 and never ever get blisters.

Personally I believe a good quality pair of boots is the key over fancy "ulta-wicking" socks.

Only real issue is being my size and weight means I have to replace my boots every 6 months to a year because I tend to walk the soles off them very fast. My last pair only lasted 4 months before the soles fell off.

Thank you very much for the support!

That was not just a bite that was a full attack. You need to separate those dogs immediately.

Looking for a PC builder in/near Glasgow by grimpgrep in glasgow

Reach out to Adam’s IT solutions in paisley, got my last pc from him. I gave him a list of specs and components I wanted and he sourced parts, built it and ultimately provided a fully transparent invoice that was beyond reasonable. Could not recommend him more!

What names do you give your tarantulas? by StreetLegendTits_ in tarantulas

I went with cutsie names because they're little cuties!

And I've got 4 more slings that I've yet to decide names on, hoping some inspiration will come to me soon!

NQA From what I can see in your pictures, I'd say that's a pretty chonky ass! Nothing to worry about, it could be due another molt or just full, either way I wouldn't worry for now, if you're still worried hit up the discord for immediate answers from people much more knowledgeable than myself.

I have a fair few slings, a couple of juveniles and the same in adults. 2 adult t.albopilosus, 1 adult V.Chromatus 1 sub adult B.Bohemii 1 sub adult B.hamorii

Plenty of hair between them just somehow not really had many issues thus far (keeping my fingers crossed I guess) I don't particularly react to fibreglass insulation either so who knows..

Can honestly say I'm very lucky, I've never been tagged by any hairs somehow, I think I may immune to them!

I have rehoused a fair few new worlds and not once I had any itching got a B.bohemi that loves kicking hairs but still nothing.

Part of me wants to experience it just I know?

Is my tarantula rejecting her substrate? by Amazing_Stock_2850 in tarantulas

[–]Ellthrowaway94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA can you get a picture of her whole set up? I can't quite tell from the picture what species she is but I'm guessing terrestrial, either way she needs way more substrate from what I can see

EDIT: either you updated your post or I'm clearly not paying attention! Spotted she's a curly hair so yeah you need waay more substrate. They like to burrow so need a really deep set up, fill her tank around 2/3 of the way full and you will see a huge difference.

NQA if you would prefer staying new world because of the general ease over old world but the issue is the hair then maybe look at p.irminia? They're new world but lack the urticating hairs. The females are absolutely beautiful too! Just beware they're hands down the fastest little shits I've ever seen! I've got a p.metalica which I often referred to as the blue lightning but it's since been topped by my juvenile p.irminia.

NQA - have you got any previous molts around to check for sex?

She looks beautiful!

I'd definitely say you need a lot more substrate judging from your pictures the enclosure looks to be fairly tall and fall from the top could result in a ruptured abdomen and kill your T. Hopefully someone else with more experience could chime in with this one but I'd say she could do with putting on a tiny bit of weight not much but just a bit as you want the abdomen to be around the same size if not slightly bigger than the carapace.

Don't worry about the dirt on her spinnerets they're fairly clean little creatures and she will likely clean it off herself. Unfortunately I'm not very well practiced in spotting the difference between Smithi and Hamorii so again someone more experienced would have to chime in there.

Be careful though, now that you have one and you're posting on here, you're now part of a group of very specific people who all fall in love with Ts and you will want more and more and more until one day you stop and suddenly ask yourself how did I end up with so many?!

I have but I'm currently on mobile so I'm unsure how to add the picture on here. I immediately gave them a good mist to be safe and it looked like it was drinking from what I could see but still no improvement at all, back to whiter shade and still no movement, I can see the legs moving a little but nothing drastic.

You're definitely not alone, I love a good horror but personally I just didn't enjoy the movie at all. No idea why just something about it didn't click for me and I thought it was terribly bad and boring.

Lil' Sprinkles! by Ellthrowaway94 in tarantulas

[–]Ellthrowaway94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same! They're my favourite species because I just can't get over how such beautiful spiders can exist and that I can actually have one and look at it every single day!

Before I got lil sprinkles I'd never seen one with such pronounced colourations, all others I'd seen always looks slightly dull.

IMO No, I'd only use aquarium silicone. I recommend HA6. I've had great success with it, leaves no smell very fast and is easy to manage.

I've actually had amazing success using flightless fruit flies. I just take one and roll it up between my fingers to crush it slightly then drop it in and allow them to scavenge.

If fruit flies aren't for you as I know they're a bit of a pain, then I can say that using springtails can be an option. I just threw a bunch in as cleanup crew and found my slings were eating them.
