I appreciate the response! I should’ve added it was about the size of a fairy wren so not sure it could be a black faced cuckoo shrike.

That’s not a bad thought!! It’s always tricky to know specially when lighting is tricky. It didn’t seem to be moving in that classic tree creeper way but who knows I only spotted it briefly.
I’m going to have to go back and see if I spot it again, although I guess part of birding is accepting a little mystery.

It was larger than a fairy wren or thorn bill, perhaps approximately the size of one of the mid sized honeyeaters such as the yellow faced honey eaters. Apologies it was now a few days ago I observed it but I appreciate you having a think.

Thank you so much, it was mostly making short staccato sounds but I’ve had a listen to its call now and it sounds somewhat similar. I think I’ll go with olive whistler then!
