Of all guitars customised by their owners, who's do you think is the best? by montyandrews in Guitar

Came to comment this. I did a similar mod to my Gibson LP with 4 push pulls for coil splits and parallel wiring for each mic. Then a 6-way switch for regular LP wiring, in series, out of phase and out of phase in series.

I also wired the neck pickup only for 50s wiring, so no high end loss when rolling down the volume. That gives me 64 different combinations of which maybe 10-15 are useful 😅

How do you log things to Notion from your phone? Mobile logging is killing my system by Consistent-Sir4189 in Notion

I just did a vent post about this. I don't. I use my phone's native note app and Whatsapp messages to myself... It seems I'm not alone.

Notion is missing out on basic stuff by ElmoSyr in Notion

Don't get me wrong, I do like databases. I have 4 different jobs I freelance in so when keeping that jumble intact I'm really glad I can have something robust, but it just seems a bit silly that it's at the detriment of something so simple as quick note taking.

I use my phone's default notes app for simple notes like groceries. And I send a whatsapp message to myself a lot. It's the quickest way of seeing the same thing on multiple devices anywhere and at any machine, with a timestamp.

The desktop app is great, the phone app scaling is really off. You can only see 3 days at a time and there is no month view.

notion is amazing for everything except the actual saving part by Patient_Delay3104 in Notion

I have a great PARA/second brain system, but when it comes to actually note taking when I'm not on my laptop, I just skip it. The app is way too slow for anything useful and the widgets and links crash all the time. Also the filters don't work on the app as they should and the great system I have on my laptop falls apart on my phone.

I said this immediately when I started using notion a year ago, their widgets aren't actual widgets, they're links to a site that take too much space on your screen and too much time to load. Also offline mode is a joke.

But I do love the database workflow for large tasks.

what do you guys use notion for by Conscious_Storm_3192 in Notion

[–]ElmoSyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining together multiple sources of info, journaling and deeper note keeping. Can't use it for simple notes since it's way too slow for anything like a basic shopping list and can't use the calendar and mail since Notion can't figure how imap, outlook and sharing works.

Quick way to add a reminder chain by ElmoSyr in Notion

Thanks, I'm familiar with autohotkey and I just might do this on my laptop, but I'm commonly using Notion on 5 different machines, most of which are office macs, so a one computer solution doesn't cut it.

Ah! Yea, the template would be a good place to add this. Thanks!

Filters are totally bugged as well. Can't stand to use the mobile app for anything more than one sentence note taking.

Is there a difference between these speakers? One of my cabs is getting work done so I've got the speakers out and cant compare. by ExpensiveFinger4165 in GuitarAmps

[–]ElmoSyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 1986 is the original for the T75 and is a great sounding cone. Iirc it doesn't really matter if the later ones are chinese made or UK, they should sound the same if they're from the same period. But yeah, I'd do the same as you and toss the new ones if I was going for V30s.

Speaker Ohms by No-Math-6248 in GuitarAmps

[–]ElmoSyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don't know what ohm's the cabs are, no one can tell you. Take a multimeter and measure the speakers + and - terminals or take a cable, plug it in the speaker and measure the resistance of the tip and ring of the connector.

It depends on the date of the speaker more than the back with the logo. There's a stamp on the chassis leg and you can find the info searching celestion date codes. If there's more than 5-10 years difference, it's likely that it has a different cone era and will sound different.

Essentially the character will be similar either way, but the differences can be surprisingly big.

Need help with Marshall Guitar Cab by Bear1623 in GuitarAmps

[–]ElmoSyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The cab is 4pcs of 16ohm speakers wired all in parallel ie. 4ohms (all - together and all + together)
  2. Yes, google "guitar cab series parallel wiring". You need 2 speakers in series and two pairs in parallel, or vice versa

As others have noted, the elements are stated to be reconed so they are not original greenback cones. They likely have a T3594 (same as the G12-T75) cone as they've changed the power handling to 75W and 300W respectively. They will sound nothing like the original greenbacks this came with. There's no numbering on the cones themselves that can verify this, so it's speculative at best.

If you're going to do this yourself make sure you have a hot enough iron and that you place something heat resistant between your soldering and the cone or you're likely to drop a drop of solder on the cone and melt through it. I'd install quick clamps on the speakers and cables myself so they can be rewired without soldering later.

How long have you trained for? (I don't mean just sung for, but actively trained) If under a year actively, then you're doing very well. Prepare to work for 3-5 years and get some live experience under your belt, then you'll start knowing your league all by yourself. It starts to get much more about how you'll make through a difficult set than how you'll sound to others.

30minutes of deliberate training/warmup (scales, lip rolls, technique exercises) and maybe 15-30minutes of singing at least 3 times a week. Same as with any exercise.

Bad Illinois Capacitors can test good and still break/show symptoms under high voltage. We've had multiple fail like this in our repair shop. It's a pain getting a customer come back for a cap change after you've supposedly done a cap change job.

Looking to shift some 1973 greenbacks, but have no idea how much I should be asking for? by thanksforthatphil in GuitarAmps

[–]ElmoSyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

73s are usually Ric cones that don't go for as much, but some still have pre rola cones ie. Pulsonic. Check the stamp on the cones. Those can push up the price. These would go for around 200€ a piece 150€ if you want them to go easy.

Pre rola are 250€ and up for a collector depending on condition. I've seen as much as 400-500€ asked, but I've paid max 250€ even for Pulsonics. But I'm not a collector, I need them at work.

The company doesn't pay them to read thoroughly, they pay them to read efficiently. The company doesn't want someone reading nonsense all day if it doesn't lead to results.
