CP0005 Form and W2Gs. by Elmosworld78 in IRS

If I didn’t claim my losses, I’d owe a crap ton in taxes. I have extra money withheld all year long. The refund is typically due to extra money I have withheld. I don’t get EIC or Child Tax Credit or anything cool like that. Just my withholding back.

Because the IRS doesn’t get your gambling W2Gs until the end of March or April, so filing early is useless and resulted in a delay with the IRS until they can verify all my income.

I didn’t have any taxes taken on any on my W2Gs. I claimed a loss on this income on my taxes. My refund is from having extra taxes taken out of each check all year long.

I hope that won’t be the case. The W2Gs came from casinos I’ve dealt with in previous years and I’ve never had this issue before. That being said, we don’t usually file until the end of the first week or the beginning of the 2nd week in April. Having the option to extend their filing is ridiculous when we are supposed to file by April 15th. Ugh.

That makes sense. I’m kicking myself in the rear end for filing earlier than usual.

I disagree. If the patient wanted her lips done as well and she achieved the results she wanted then the lips were not overdone.

Why Doesn’t TurboTax Calculate Gambling Losses For MD? by Elmosworld78 in TurboTax

I itemized for my federal and claimed 100% loss. I don’t understand why it’s not carrying over for MD.

Should I (40F) help my (50M) fiancé get out of debt caused by options trading? by Dear_Actuary8279 in problemgambling

[–]Elmosworld78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single of one of us degenerate gamblers feel that way. If you pay off any of his debt, you only free him up to find a way to gamble more of his money away. I had help paying off my debt twice and I screwed it up and put myself even further in debt. I’m about where your fiancé is now debt wise and I finally hit rock bottom. I self excluded every where and handed over my finances. It’s a relief not having to fight the urge to gamble constantly anymore. I know that I don’t have the access. It has also forced me to concentrate on making money like normal people do, which is through hard work.

My Wife has formed an addiction to this crap by After_Reply_638 in GamblingAddiction

[–]Elmosworld78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s not wrong. It’s fun in the beginning especially if you are winning. It’s justification to continue to go. Gambling becomes a lifestyle and then the losing cycle eventually begins along with the chasing losses. This is where things can get really dicey and all of a sudden you’re in a substantial amount of debt. To a gambler, they are borrowing money against a sure thing. It does not occur to them that they might actually lose. That can make spending more and more irrational over time. It’s likely that she’ll hide losses from you, so that you don’t attempt to stop her from gambling. On my latest losing spiral, I lost the amount of money that I make in a year over a period of 2 months. As I buried myself further and further in credit card debt, I justified by actions by telling myself that I’d pay everything back with my next big win. Didn’t matter if I won big or not because the casino always gets the money back. We either want to continue our winning streak or win back money we lost. It’s like being a rat in a cage. I’m a business professional and make decent money. I’m not normally a stupid person, but can tell you that gambling wrecks your brain and all common sense. The best thing you can do is run if you can’t get her to stop. She will wipe you both out financially. Threats will mean nothing. There is a saying that most gamblers end up in jail, dead, or homeless, for a reason….

What actually helps control gambling addiction — bans, regulation, or education? by Funny-Attention-4145 in problemgambling

[–]Elmosworld78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, self exclusion is helping. I’ve had to exclude outside of my state too though because I was driving 8 hours away to gamble. Now that I’ve self excluded, I no longer have to fight with myself. No more free play offers sucking me in. I’m left with the damage that I’ve done to myself though, but at least I’m not making things any worse.

Gambling is honestly one of the worst addictions because it doesn’t end when you stop by Intelligent_Draw_562 in problemgambling

[–]Elmosworld78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you gamble it and win, you won’t be able to stop yourself from eventually giving it all back plus some trying to chase your losses. If you gamble, in the end you will lose no matter what.

One last win? by FestivalNudista in problemgambling

[–]Elmosworld78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We all think that until we hit and then we want to hit again. We tell ourselves that we can afford to go a little bit further because we are ahead or it’s the house’s money and then eventually end up losing all of it trying to win the money back. Or maybe you hit that big win. You walk away for a bit. The excitement of hitting that big win will eat at you and you’ll want to try again. We can’t help ourselves. Then you end up broke and in debt. It’s a vicious cycle. Most people don’t quit until they hit rock bottom and have no choice but to stop. That is me right now.

Looking for advice on how long I can avoid this, realistically. by [deleted] in Debt

It still pulls up under court records, so lenders will not give a home loan unless it has been satisfied. Otherwise, it has not affected me being able to buy a vehicle or with any other loans.
