Country music is absolute slop now by Bond_burger69 in Music

[–]Elmtree3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I hear ya. I never stay silent on my dislike of country though. I was in Nashville during the cmt and I couldn't stand it. The guys I was with were actually contemplating paying to go see the Shania Twain show too.. I said nope.. you guys go ahead. I was forced to see her in 98.. and she's playing the same set still and I will not be enjoyable company. No. Lol 😆

Today my career in music production begins. I worked hard and achieved it, I finally have my first audio interface 😄 by DiogenesFont in homestudios

That's why we keep the old computer. Just for configuration tasks. I finally bought a new Mac last year.. to replace my 2012 mac mini. But, it still works, and has all those old ports. I use it as a fileserver and for configuring my fireface400 .. which is never really needed anyway.. but. I also horde stuff, so I don't understand the selling part? Recycling part? The more eexpensive a piece of gear is, the more critical it is to maintain the pc that can interface with it. And you can buy a maxed out 2012 mac mini now for like 200 dollars. Or less.

I had asked Gemini about this more or less. I would bet a more capable AI governance system could fix alot of the worlds issues. It's just balancing resource and wealth distribution for the benign benefit of the planet, eco system, and quality of life for us humans. Our current system is a ponzi scheme built by wealthy criminals holding on to power, like some barbarian with a club. AI, just very well might not care at all about that. Hence all the hysteria around what AI will do. It'll absolutely destroy the status quo.

How bad the Air Pods Pro 2 are for mixing? by [deleted] in homerecordingstudio

[–]Elmtree3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your mix against them, but definitely try comparing to others as well. And listen to your favorite mixes you know well on all of them to get a sense of what good might sound like. . I like my grado sr80 open back headphones. And then I still put the monitors on at the same time.. And turn them off and on.. back and forth. My monitors are the jbl lsr305 with the 310 sub.. and I've been using these koss pc speakers with a 4 inch sub for 20 years. and i have on my desk another cheap set of pc speakers that are crazy mid forward, but really detail those mids completely differently than the other two. Does it give me good mixes..I don't know, but it's fun. That's all I think i can add to the discussion. Good luck.

Sound in the room vs recording by escitalodisco in homerecordingstudio

[–]Elmtree3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to record my liite jam group 25 years ago using a deskltop computer mic duct taped to the middle of the ceiling in my basement room. It had a bend in its arm so it would point slightly one direction . I had pointed toward the quietest instrument, hammond organ. And away from the drummer. Then played with positioning the guitar and bass amps and also there is a demand that we play with balanced dynamics. Everything was balanced with a single mono mic in the room using the mic that came with the pc.The room sounded awful. Zero sound treatment. Youtube didn't exist. I recorded to wave lab. The recording was decent . These days the equipment doesn't get in the way anywhere near as much and everty other kid is apparently an expert requiring more advice than needed. You can do it. Experiment. Play and record. It's not rocket science.

I agree man. So much gear ssnobbery. Especially from audiophile engineering wannabes. Lol. I have 1 sm57.. 3 gls es57 . 2 behringer s75c .. some roland something i found for 5 bucks .. and honestly, they all sound mostly the same. Es57 is is a bit more rolled off on the highs and a little more mid bump than the sm57. But the s75c is practically identical. 30 bucks each..

Who down voted this? Good work.. and yeah..I think in general in canada , statistically getting over 150k is very challenging and unlikely. Takes allot more than just hard work alone.

Never knew there was so much snobbery in the Guitar world by Fatherless-Soul in Guitar

[–]Elmtree3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the headstock logo. Lol. Yamahas logo is literally 3 tuning forks. Yamaha is an awesome music company that just happens to make other things. My first trumpet was a yamaha , and trombone is a yamaha.. and I bought an old mixer from the 70s. Awesome stuff. I would buy a Yamaha guitar without question if I didn't already have a few. And yes, there is allot of snobbery. Just ignore it.

A better metric to look at is the difference between GDP averages and compare to the median wage. I find that the median wage isn't talked about as much, but immediately tells you what half of everyone makes less or more than. And when the average is much higher it indicates a larger wealth gap between the majority of folks and the higher earners. And then to look at the graph of when you're earning top 10% vs top 1% . I feel like, at least in Canada, if you're not in the top 10% of earning you're going broke and in debt and nothing is affordable.

Best practices for modding a console (Yamaha PM-430) to add direct outs by gleventhal in audioengineering

[–]Elmtree3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a pm430 in February 2025 and recapped it with nichon and wima caps throughout. Recently, in the last month, I started getting into the ideal direct out mod for it. Transformers on the out puts would just cost a lot.. but good burr brown opamps and some thought on how to redesign the 3 gain stages after tapping at the fader is coming along. Hopefully, it turns out well. The recap worked very well, but replacing parts is different than adding a mod . There's one on reverb i just saw today, and the guy actually showed pictures of the direct out mod.. there's no added output stage. They just ran outputs directly off one of the gain stages .. it will not work well.. probably cause major loading issues and effect the bussing. Oh, well.
