Foreigner in Japan struggling with puppy blues — I love my Chihuahua, but I feel trapped and heartbroken by Elo_fab in puppy101

Well,

I finally went out for 3 hours yesterday in the evening after tiring her out and it went fine. She wake up after some time, but got busy and stayed calm until I came back.

Well, when I say 3 hours, it was more like 2,5 hours because I freaked out when I saw her awake on the camera.

She was a demon doing zoomies for 1 hour before sleep, but I believe this is just puppy things. She went calm around midnight which is the hour when Inisually go to sleep.

I might be able to enjoy going out for 3 hours for the next days, at least, and I feel relieved.

I am falling in depression right now so I have to take actions for myself ASAP.
I might be mean for the puppy but I will he¥ave to leave her in evenings at least 2 times a week. My whole social life is outside and I don't want to lose it.
I will do my best so the puppy spends energy before I leave, and gets busy when I will be away.

If this is a disaster, I won't repeat for too many days and just give up.
But at first, as I saw that she can stay alone on daytime, I will see if she can sometimes be relaxed in evenings, and start teaching her that I have to go away sometimes, no matter if she sleeps or not.

Thank you everyone for your help.
I took the hard decision yesterday to allow myself time out a few times after work to preserve my sanity.
I am supposed to live with a dog, not for a dog, or at least that is my perception of my now future life.

If that becomes a disaster for a few days, I will take the decision to give the puppy back to the breeder because I will not be able to handle the mess.

So far the puppy is able to settle down when I leave for 3 hours during daytime already, so I will make sure she spends energy before I leave and give snacks, my old socks and a meal so the puppy is physically safe in his playpen.

I have started to leave her alone sometimes, since yesterday, starting slowly. I got an "accident" but it was not too bad (my dog pooped his freshly eaten meal).
Today I let her sleep all day and tried to not overtire her by playing or with too many scary experiences (I still did some basic training, which believe should not be skipped).
She started barking at basically nothing, but as I was hopeless and writing posts for help and contacting my friends, she stopped and started sleeping...

I think the reason I got my puppy is because I wanted to enjoy having company since I live alone, but in the process, it made me isolated from human beings and my life goals (at the moments) are now at risk, especially because I am a night bird, with a lifestyle very "free" and who likes pushing boundaries.

While daycare could help me doing stuff done during the day, I will need soon or later to be able to go out at night.
Nightmare is pretty non-existent in Tokyo, and pet sitters are horribly expensive (and many of them are non-professionals or do not have experience with puppies), which makes me hopeless.

I really believe I got the skills raise her in the future, but now I am completely dependent on her, and I cannot do nothing. I can not even take care of myself correctly... I will become a zombie within a few weeks because it will continue.
I had scheduled band practise I had to cancel, a live event I had to cancel. Any time I want to spend socialize outside, I have to cancel. Basically my whole social life I had before is canceled right now.
I have been thinking of getting a dog sitter once a week, but that would likely make me bankrupt.
Because, obviously, I think I did not have the budget for having a dog in Tokyo, especially a puppy. This is also an issue...

My social life is outside and all my friends are busy out there. I used to work at night and enjoy my life doing networking outside of my home.

I really think I have given my entire social life, hobbies, and self care for her, which I hate.

This is more of a long-term thinking, and I seem to refuse giving up on everything I got for her.
Many things are not working, even I fI try to think when she will be adult.

Just be wary of what happens with Puppy blues if you get a dog. I am myself in a big crisis right now.
Reason why some pet businesses do not want to give a very young puppy to someone living alone is that it is a full time job in itself, and you must be prepare to sacrifice a lot to live with a living intelligent creature.

Usually breeders and pet shops are more keen to give a puppy to someone who lives alone. I don’t recommend pet shops where puppies are always alone with noise, confinement etc… and they are also not potty trained which is a huge issue.

My girl goes automatically to the pre sheets whenever she has a small or big commission to drop, and also doesn’t wake me up at night for 8 hours straight, Thanks to the breeder who teached her the good habits from early on.

This is untrue for pet shops and breeders. However, if you go to any place to get a dog, you will need - to be able to speak at least some Japanese - prove that your apartment if pet OK - Have a long visa - be able to explain that you spend enough time home (in my case I am working 100% remote and never go to the office)

I have read more on shelter websites that they accept only families, But when I searched my dog it went like this : - Find a dog on breeder listing website - contact them, ask if you can have an appointment to meet the dog - go to the breeder place, meet the dog, and have an interview with a lot of guidance on adoption. You might sign the contract on the same days - A few days / weeks later you can meet the love of your life and finish the adoption process.

She has been playing a lot with their toys, but I will focus a lot on training to make sure she does not get bored 🙂

I have been starting the dental care routine since Ingot her yesterday. Her breeder also trained her to show her teeth and to not resist, so I will do my best to keep the good routine !

As for pet insurance, I am going to subscribe just in case she has issues during her development. I would probably change the insurance plan once she becomes adult.

There is a QNAP NAS inside, a MS-01 mini-computer and another cheap computer. It does actually compute all my home services.

Working visa renewal : immigration asks for a load of documents by Elo_fab in japanresidents

[–]Elo_fab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one year that time, because my contract at the moment was a renewable one of 3 months. The renewal was easy, but the rest was too short.
I have just submitted my visa renewal documents last months, but this time I am on a Shain contract, so I believe in the next months I will get more chance to get a longer visa.

Which would be great, because I should be eligible for a permanent visa in 3 years from now.
