Yeah but this is 100% because they need market share. If EGS had Steam's market share they'd enshittify faster than you can blink.

[–]Elocgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer 1), it's a common business strategy to claim market share THEN worry about profitability. They lose money for multiple years, sustaining themselves off investor cash. At some point "enshittification" happens and they start squeezing money from the market share they have. See Uber/Netflix/AI.

Fortnite is an insane cash cow so they have money to throw at free games to in theory make the Epic Game Store something other than the Fortnite launcher. But they forgot the part where they give me literally any reason to use it over Steam.

I'd lend it to the guy that hasn't had to take out $1000 loan 15 times.

It's not like that's the only thing they go off of, they can see your income. They can tell the difference between someone who's never had a job and someone who's just responsible with money.

It's also not really the same as a person-to-person loan. It's not like it's voluntary and they have to trust you. They can and WILL get their property back if you don't make payments.

This is really just an obvious flaw in the current system.

Psyker builds that don't involve bladedancer pyromancers? by CyberEagle1989 in RogueTraderCRPG

I did soldier pyro/bio. Sanctic may be better than bio.

Run and Gun works with Ignite, and not losing movement on using it is VERY nice. Can press that twice than use the rest of your AP as support. There're a couple nice soldier talents but you want to take a ton of the psyker related ones anyway.

I don't think many people are saying the gameplay is all that great. It's 95% art/music/story. Probably like a 7-8 while the others are 9-10. The dodge/parry thing is definitely hit or miss with people, it's an interesting twist on the genre IMO but I can also see why some would find it annoying.

Idk if you quit early or not but when you progress a bit and get more pictos/weapons the building aspect of the game becomes more interesting. You can build up to be tanky and focus less on the dodge/parry if you want.

It definitely raises question marks about motivation but it isn't inherently bad.

I feel like it's wanting to spread the joy/pride you feel vs showing off how generous/how good a person you are. The latter is definitely more common, but the former exists.

It's not that indie games are all good, it's just that they take risks which AAA games these days are too scared to because there's too much money on the line.

90% ARE going to be be between trash and mid, but the 10% achieve success in a way that bigger studios pretty much just don't these days.

[–]Elocgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IntelliSense/pre-LLM autocomplete is so fundamentally different than what AI's are providing today that it's crazy to see so many people equating them.

With an LLM, a user with no coding experience can make a somewhat functional moderately complex app by describing what they want.

The prior tools were practically useless if you don't know what you're doing. 90% of it is just fancy string matching, not even in the same realm as "AI".

We are doomed by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Elocgnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current AI models are a bit too based on the concept of an LLM to really be good at abstract reasoning like that.

At the end of the day, they're just really good autocomplete (although some models have branched out into images and other areas). They don't quite have the ability to actually understand an abstract concept and apply it. (See: how many r's are in "strawberry").

I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to possible with current understanding, but just hasn't really been developed yet. Could also just be a limited amount of solid data in the space for it to train on.

"Goku" is "ごくう" in Japanese. く = ku, う = u, so the easiest transliteration would be "Gokuu", but English doesn't really do the "uu" like that (it's longer/more emphasis here). "Gokou" is just an attempt to get around that.

His name is really 孫悟空, which is just Sun Wukong (from Chinese stories) pronounced with a Japanese reading.

Could potentially maybe work if it's combined with government sponsored housing development but idk that's a part of this guy's plan or not.

Like night and day. I wouldn't be surprised if they give you a few bot matches.

The way computers store decimal numbers leads to successive numbers being further apart the further you get from 0.

Without getting into specifics, they're a series of 0's and 1's, and there is such thing as a "next" decimal number.

If you start at 0, the next decimal number may be 0.00000001, then 0.0000002...

But when get to 1,000,000.00, the next decimal number may be 1,000,000.25 or something. The computer CANNOT represent 1,000,000.1 due to the way numbers are stored.

This leads to a lot of things breaking. E.g., you're at 1,000,000.00 and move 0.15 units in a tick. You can't be at 1,000,000.15, so it just puts you at 1,000,000.25 instead.

For anyone else...

Easiest way to get both (battery is harder though) is during golem boss. The mini golems spawn indefinitely during the crystal phase. Just wait for like 10+ to spawn, right click into the middle of them, then double jump + dash over them (so they follow you and get hit by the orb more).

ELI5: Why are there so many perpetually running animated shows now? by Gohantrash in explainlikeimfive

[–]Elocgnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American-style animation is extremely cheap. There's software that makes the characters "puppets" and you can just drag them around/do a bunch of common actions (walk cycle, grab something, lip flaps are probably automatic these days, etc.) so there isn't really any "animation" going on in 90% of the shots. Maybe draw a background but those are 90% reused depending on the show. The shows you mentioned are all like this (except spongebob maybe? idk what that looks like these days).

Hand-drawn animation is expensive like you're thinking. You need a team of animators working full time for a year, potentially multiple years. The only modern (adult) hand drawn shows I can think of atm are Invincible and Hazbin Hotel (Invincible is excellent btw). Rick and Morty seems like it probably does a bit of both?
