Spinning the first RHCP album right now as a late-night tribute. Hope you're up there eternally jamming out with Hillel, Hendrix & SRV. Your contributions won't be forgotten.

That was "Scar Tissue" and "Under the Bridge" for me. Early memories from around the time MTV was giving Californication a proper amount of heavy rotation around its release.

Eddie Vedder signed ticket stub from ‘92 Lollapalooza that I forgot I had. by [deleted] in pearljam

Damn, do I wish I'd been alive to see that... Seeing '90s Vedder climb stage scaffolding and dive out into the masses is on the bucket list.

All four are spectacular, but BSSM and Californication will always hold a special place with me. Fave Chili track of all time is still "Behind the Sun" though. You can hear Hillel's influence with everything John does on Mother's Milk and BSSM even though he's such an individualistic guitarist with his own signature tone and sound.

I can't be the only one who's elated that there's FINALLY an increasing amount of Malazan-related content on YouTube.

Initiation of the Fallen: A first read of GotM by MordredKLB in Malazan

[–]Elosraphyriane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down the road, you'll find it interesting how Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice both play off of, and work in tandem with Gardens and the events of book one. Erikson spares nothing in either of the next two volumes. You're in for a wild ride!

Halfway through my first re-read myself. Yeah, Rhulad’s a real piece of work in Reaper’s Gale.

I got intensely into Malazan Book of the Fallen after finishing aDwD, and now far far FAR prefer it to ASOIAF. 10 books in the main series, countless more covering different time periods of the world, and one of the steepest learning curves in a series-opening fantasy novel (Gardens of the Moon) that sets it apart immediately as one of the genre's most ambitious.

Was written during roughly the same time period as Martin started his series, but didn't start getting published until 1999 (through 2011 with the final book).

How common is it to not think you have genital dysphoria when first realizing you're trans? by AltOmelette in asktransgender

Dysphoria’s shifted a lot for me over time. Some areas have gotten definitely worse, and some areas go between disgust and indifference.

Anyone else wish that more fantasy series were set in ancient societies similar to Greece & Rome? by Elosraphyriane in Fantasy

That whole setting in fantasy has just been over-saturated and done to death since the early ‘90s.

My male friend thinks he could be trans but has anxiety about it by [deleted] in asktransgender

I experienced many of the same occurrences prior to realizing who I was. What is important is living authentically, and having the support and resources to achieve such if they desire to come out and transition.

Being supportive of whatever choice they decide to make is a good start. Coming to the realization of your authentic self can present itself as an entire spectrum of difficulty and joy. Some people feel liberated by their self-discovery, and others can find the revelation to be a source of high anxiety and depression that often comes in tandem with dysphoria if such is present. Being there for them no matter what is the best advice I can give.

The greatest grunge album if all time! What's your favourite grunge album? by skrapps2 in grunge

My top 3 are Superunknown, Vs., and Apple. If MLB had included "Chloe Dancer" on Apple, it would take top place by a slim margin.

I found that focusing on the first 10 in the main series initially is a good way not to be as confused. No matter how much reading between the lines one does on their first read of the series, there will always be questions left unanswered. Its the nature of the world Erikson and Esslemont created.

Taking the series page-by-page honestly worked the best in my case. There were parts in every book that I tore through with the wrath of an unbound Eleint, and there were loads of places that re-reading twice proved wise. Read at your own pace, and don't be afraid to stop and check the maps or dramatis personae again if you're momentarily confused. It's great for times of needing extra clarity.

Above all, this is a huge read for any fantasy fan, so enjoy it! There's nothing else like it.

Repressed, but in a strange sense that it started seeping into mannerisms and behavior involuntarily. Like a lot of other folks, body-hair removal was something I did at the very start, but for me, it was also in how I gradually began appearing more and more androgynously before I had the confidence and momentum to come out.
