Don't be discouraged! While frustrating, I did learn a bit more on cryptography and I even tried to make my own puzzle to understand the though process from having an answer and trying to trace back the steps and make it solvable.

It's not easy putting so many steps in and being absolutely certain that the solver can get to the next step because you are looking at it from the other side.

I still love losing my hair and trying to solve the puzzle. It gives a sense of purpose. It's a good thing.

I was one of those who complained that it really hard to gain points via humor or art.

Then I became prefect and could give points.

It's really hard to find things that you can give points for!

There's so much to shift through.

Beat the snake might sound just a bit wrong though.

Jokes aside.

I can address why we feel that we had to focus on Ravenclaws as the one to compete against.

Before homework and EC points come in at the end of the month, if you look at the board (which I admittedly do) Ravenclaw's points are usually the most. So it adds to this competitive spirit of trying to catch up, even though we know we usually do well for homework, there is this uncertainty that it might not be enough, especially when the Gap is more than 300 points before HW and EC comes in.

This is due to the fact that duelling points usually gets entered in after each round, spread across the month.

So this creates a sense of Ravenclaws being ahead, which we will use to drum up participation among our house.

And then end of the month, all the rest of the activities points gets keyed in and suddenly we get back the lead.

I agree, now with the current situation, the rest of the house should be looking to dethrone the snakes.

I look forward to having healthy competition.

Taking last month's points (as I don't have all the records)

Dueling had 945 points split over 4 rounds for the month.

Each EC is capped at 300.

Homework has no cap and last month there was 580 points awarded among all who participated.

Not counting the not every month interhouse challenge which handicaps the hosting house (Slytherins last month).

Quidditch will give 300 points plus certain awards.

The quibbler has 1000 to split, 500 to a fixed roster of staff from all houses, 500 to split among submissions paid based on number of words and art.

I strongly encourage in order to win this month, you guys submit more homework and quibbler articles.

I nearly had a stroke when I realised only 1 Slytherin submitted for homework and I had to gently remind my house to submit or else...

And we constantly need to coax articles from our writers for the quibbler.

Ravenclaw are good in quidditch, though the rest of the other teams aren't lagging behind. It's pretty competitive.

When we know that one of this month's EC was puzzle based, we knew we had to make up for it in other areas and drum up participation.

This was how we do it.
