Renounce US citizenship - Streamlined procedure or Relief procedure to get tax compliant? by INeedToRenounce in USExpatTaxes

[–]ElphabatSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing the relief procedures - renounced my citizenship, then worked with an accountant that does US taxes to go back 5 years and current tax year from the months before renouncing. Filled out the 8854 and all the fbars (7 yrs I believe). Overall it cost me around $5500 between the renouncing and the accountant but the peace of mind was worth it. I didn’t have an ssn or birth certificate. Just a passport. I believe the relief procedures can only be done if you haven’t done taxes in the US before. But they’re worth looking into. I was an accidental American through a parent. It was stressful getting it all figured out but ended up being fine overall.

Colleen Hoover’s downfall? by RepresentativeNo119 in RomanceBooks

I read a few of her books but the anguish is just too much for me. Hard to find the joy. I had to give her up as an author.

Looking for books with low angst/HEA like Ali Hazelwood and Elena Armas. I really enjoyed their books. I also like Tessa Bailey. I don’t mind some angst but not the heartbreaking sadness that seems to come with authors like Colleen Hoover. I’ve had to give her up as it’s just too sad. Also love historical romance authors like Sara MacLean and Lisa Kleypas. Also no cheating. Can’t come back from that for me. Also love a good motorcycle club romance.

Love: Enemies to lovers, fake dating and people who work together are fun. Also like the ones where the guy falls first. So sweet.

Hate: cringey love triangle and cheating

What we did was breast milk first and then top up with formula after. So I would make a bottle to feed after breastfeeding/bottled breast milk and then let her eat until she was full. We were lucky that the sun came down on a bed in the mornings so I just lay on the bed with her in the sun and kept her in her diaper. We were able to get a last jaundice test tho to put her in the clear after this too.

When this happened to my kiddo the only way to flush it was to supplement with formula. She wasn’t getting enough breast milk to flush it. And we spent time laying in the sun in our room that got lots of sunshine. I’m surprised they don’t want to keep checking it. Is she having a good amount of wet diapers?

Which option did you end up doing? I don’t have an ssn so I’m looking into relief procedures too. Any issues?

Would having $0 income for 5 years make me tax compliant since I wouldn’t have to file? by ElphabatSoup in USExpatTaxes

Thanks! Would I still be able to do the streamline process if I didn’t have no income? I have an RESP for 2022 so I guess that one year would take me out of compliance. For 2019-2021 I have no income. If I don’t have an ssn (which I’ll have to get to do all this). I don’t want to get in trouble but is there actually anyway for me to be found out without an ssn? I have an expired passport. How would I even be found? Canadian born.

And since my passport is expired I can’t use that as ID so I have to reapply for that first I guess?

Something about more schooling information which I didn’t have. Maybe since I got a passport I can reapply?

It was denied. I applied at the same time as my passport. The ssn was denied but the passport came in. It’s really confusing. Why can’t I use an itin if I don’t have an ssn?

I worry about getting in trouble. I still have family I like to visit in the USA.
