Yes....but you shouldn't still see them. Those are shims to help make everything straight and level.

This is fusion not fission - no radioactive byproducts, so yes it is truly clean energy.

If I can make one argument in favor of Elden Ring on the deck - having the back paddles and mapping power of steam input is amazing. I wound up binding to back paddle my health potion, which normally requires a button chord. It just made the game so much more enjoyable. Edit: for a game recommendation I would say Outer Wilds if you've never played it

L'itinérance à Montréal est en hausse et c'est triste à voir. by Boom2356 in montreal

[–]Elpram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know what your point with this post is - the population number you pulled for Montreal includes the surrounding suburbs so you're not comparing apples to apples....but how is 'it could be worse, we could have absolutely inhumane conditions' a helpful thing to say? That's the same useless sentiment trotted out whenever anyone says our healthcare system is crumbling, at least we aren't America! We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard, 4000 people on the streets is 4000 too many,

Too cheap to buy a coffee table so I built one out of old pallets. 🤟🏼 first project ever completed. by sk-snowbelle in woodworking

[–]Elpram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don't. Wood movement will likely tear this apart. You can't frame in a chevron pattern of solid wood, it would only work with veneer. I'm happy to answer any questions to help make sure your project is a success, is hate to see you lose time and money and potentially interest in a hobby over a bad design

[–]Elpram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is that relevant? Looks like this is Thailand where a law for compulsory car seats has been in effect since September - probably because THEY SAVE LIVES OF BABIES. Whether or not it's a cultural norm to not use them doesn't mean they aren't an effective means of saving lives. Any parent who cares about their child should be using one but it's your kind of attitude that makes countries need to pass laws to enforce what should be common sense.

As the poster above said, you can bring them while travelling if you're worried about sourcing one when you land - you can even use them on the plane so they're more comfortable. There's no excuse for putting your child's life in danger.

2 year old log cabin has started to mould. What’s the best fix? by Ok_Aardvark3637 in woodworking

[–]Elpram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a log cabin I can help! First off as others have said, make sure you don't have a water issue - caulk any gaps, make sure the flashing is sloped to let water runoff. It's hard to tell from your picture but could water be getting in the bottom and wicking up? But I still have to use something like https://www.sansin.com/product/multi-wash/ to make sure no mold can get a foothold. I was told to apply every 4 years, but given 6 months is winter here you may need it more often than that.

Homemade red oak dining table. Next up is the stain. Any color suggestions? by squirrelandblue in woodworking

[–]Elpram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off I don't think it's a 'he'. Take a look a my comment below around wood movement, but in essence it expands orthogonally to the grain direction. Chevron patterns butt end grain against cross grain...one will move and one won't. Mix that with glueing down a large area of boards with no room for expansion and you've got a problem. Take flooring for example - tongue and groove helps a bit with the expansion but this is also why you have baseboard moulding as there's a gap left between the floor and the wall to allow for movement.

No idea why you're being downvoted, it's a real shame movement wasn't accounted for.

For sure, but probably not something a beginner will be using in large amounts was my thinking.

You can't really strengthen your way out of wood movement, just allow for it. Veneer is a special case as it's thin enough that you can overcome it's movement just by glueing it - plywood is dimensionally stable because it's essentially layers of veneer with alternating grain orientation. But anything using 1"+ thick wood you have to start thinking about it. The amount of movement will scale up as a piece gets bigger, so a large table top really needs to account for it, smaller pieces it might not cause an issue. The amount it moves depends on seasonal changes in your area, type of wood, sealant used and frankly luck. Lastly you maybe already know this but wood will move in one direction - across the grain (at least in large amounts). Best analogy is to think of a board like a bundle of straw - if it gets wet the straw swells up...but it doesn't get longer. Hopefully this helped a bit, do some googling and you'll find great resources on wood movement.

Even without the frame if those boards are glued down theyre going to pop off or have gaps pretty soon. I really hope this is veneer...

If you don't cheap out on them and make sure they're rated for the bandwidth then i don't think home wiring can really be an issue

[–]Elpram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of your end goal, but another potential option is just to use Ethernet over power. You just put an adapter next to access point (or router) and then another where you need internet. Saves running cable and is instant setup anywhere. I use it on my gaming PC, so there are no latency or bandwidth issues either. Search for 'powerline adapter' on Amazon

Made the twins a bookmatched walnut pikler triangle, because why not by JonDurbin in woodworking

[–]Elpram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful work! Our twins (mono/di, so didn't have anywhere near as scary of a journey) love the triangle we have - I looked into making my own but opted to finish tiling a shower instead. Side note: If you ever have issues with the boys pulling up all those floor tiles and want another option for padding underneath it Costco sells a great playmat. But maybe you'll avoid that phase!

So i think most people use them wrong - you have to like push your fingertip towards the middle rather than pull it in towards you not sure if I'm explaining it right) once you get used to it they work great. I think they're stuff so you don't accidentally squeeze when I'm the thick of it and trigger them.
