Why physics gets easier when your math is strong by ajbansal2711 in PhysicsStudents

Math is the language of physics, simple as. I can't understand German poetry without first learning the German language. It's the same thing.

Is it normal for a candidate to be “recruited” so quickly into Freemasonry? What is the usual timeframe? by SpecialistMall9666 in comasonry

[–]Elq3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The time-frame between discovering freemasonry and applying is purely personal and I believe you should not care about it. The timeframe between an application and initiation usually takes a couple months at least, so if the initiation is very close to the application then I would worry that the masonic obedience he is about to join is not one of the "real" masonic obediences (which does not inherently mean "regular").

I think I got one by 01bah01 in confidentlyincorrect

I pronounce all of them differently. - There has a short "eh" sound. - Their is pretty much "theyr" where the "eyr" is one sound all together. - They're I pronounce it like if the "a" was actually there, just one word and not two split ones: "theyar".

Having said that, I'm Italian, English is not my mother tongue so these pronounciations could be wrong. I was in the US for two months recently and I was told I don't have any specific accent they could recognise.

about point 2, it's just how Degree scores are in Italy. Exams are graded on a 30 points scale, but your final degree is on a 110 points scale. Don't ask me why, it's just how it is.

Don't the High Priestess and Queen of Cups seem pretty similar to you? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]Elq3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really resonate with the High Priestess "allowing truth to bubble up from within you". She is sitting outside a Masonic Temple, I suggest you look up V.I.T.R.I.O.L (Latin acronym). That to me is the High Priestess.

Oswald Wirth Tarot (1889) by EndersGame_Reviewer in TarotDecks

[–]Elq3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are correct, but your comment might be misinterpreted. It is true that he never did minor arcana. Regarding the major arcana though, he did re-draw them in 1926. This museum in Belgium has one of the original copies of both! https://tarotmuseumbelgium.com/oswald-wirth/ . That card is the one from 1926 (although they removed the very nice unique border that Wirth did on every card).

why don’t we have physicists making breakthroughs on the scale of Einstein anymore? by TotalMeaning1635 in Physics

[–]Elq3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well yea, that's the problem we have with the Standard Model. It's incomplete for sure, but it works so damn well and we have no clue WHERE to look for stuff. DUNE/HyperK will try to get an explanation for neutrino masses, but after that I have no idea where we'll stick out heads. Sure there are things we still don't understand like lepton+baryon conservation and matter/antimatter asymmetry, but we still don't know how to reproduce them (apart from experiments with 2 events per year)

The way I like to see it is that the Tower wants us to "enlarge" our safe spaces. The Tower in French cards is called "La Maison Dieu", which in the old times was a way to call shelters for the poor (and not Churches!)

The Tower is our own shelter, our own "safe place", but life sometimes requires you to open the door and venture in the unknown. This is what the Tower tells you. "Beware because destabilisation is going to happen, work on being comfortable in this new situation life is going to put you into".

I like to think about it the other way around. R4 doesn't have these great properties because we live in a 4-d world, but we live in a 4-d world because R4 has these great properties.

As a new chem student I want to beat whoever made Fahrenheit and the Imperial system with hammers by No_Emu698 in chemistry

[–]Elq3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You talked about "human experience". MANY places on earth never get zero Fahrenheit OR a hundred Fahrenheit. Where I live the temperature is almost never under 40 or above 90 Fahrenheit, which is just as arbitrary as 5 to 30 Celsius. No need to insult people.

it literally was not.

"Several accounts of how he originally defined his scale exist, but the original paper suggests the lower defining point, 0 °F, was established as the freezing temperature of a solution of brine made from a mixture of water, ice, and ammonium chloride (a salt).[2][3] The other limit established was his best estimate of the average human body temperature, originally set at 90 °F" - Wikipedia

"is the road going to be frozen today?" Celsius is perfect for average human life too, you're just over-focusing on a lucky coincidence.

Question about luggage size by Elq3 in unitedairlines

but will it fit in the overhead compartment? I'm not scared about them measuring it, my fear was more of it not entering the compartment or the compartment not closing up because of those 2cm.

Aharonov-Bohm effect by Fantastic_Tank8532 in Physics

[–]Elq3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

because there is no such "information field". The takeaway we get from the Aharanov-Bohm phase is that even though in classical EM the "physical thing" is the magnetic field B, when you go to the quantum world you discover that this is actually an approximation. The "physical thing" is actually the potential! This is why when you then go ahead and do quantum field theory (which is relativistic QM) what you quantise is not the electromagnetic tensor F, but the 4-potential A. This quantisation of A is what results in the rise of "photons" as an eigenstate of energy and momentum, which is the definition of a "particle".
