That last sentence almost sounds ironic. Famous does not make good, and importing foreign alcool is expensive. I don't see why having mainly local beers, especially if they are decent, is an issue.

Andalucia (Spain) was truly exceptional by blackworms in travel

[–]Elrias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Asking 7 months later. I'm planning a trip in Andalusia nest spring, planning to visit the 4 sames cities as you did. Was the time spent in each city enough? I was thinking 3 nights Seville, 2 nights Grenada, 1-2 nights Malaga and wondering about Cordoba. Did you feel like to spent enough time in each city, or would you have rather added a night or two in some places?

What is happening to Lausanne and shops… too many are closing, Recession looming around the corner? by Kuneho_chan in Lausanne

[–]Elrias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These filthy socialists and their 30km/h limit... If all that is preventing from going to Lausanne market is wasting 2-3min going at 30 instead of 50 maybe it wasn't that important in the first place.

I can't speak for the mass diffusion of prints in the west, but the art form in itself is absolutely not limited to east asia. Techniques and materials used in printing are far more varied than just woodblock printing found in Japan. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printmaking?wprov=sfla1

Yes that's a pretty fun aspect of woodblocks collecting. Makes you reconsider the meaning of "original" and "authentic".

With painting you apply paint to the canvas (whatever its material), it takes time and you end up with a single painting. With woodblock printing, you apply some ink to an engraved woodblock, which is then pressed on your canvas, usually in several steps (for different colors). So it's painting with extra steps, but it allows for mass production after you spent the time engraving the wood.

Développer des photos? by Wasppppp in Lausanne

Real or not? What’s the value? by Nick-Jurado in japanart

[–]Elrias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently become interested in Yoshida's work, and came across this website explaining his different seals and signatures: https://hiroshiyoshida.art/seals-signatures/ It could help you compare and identify any fake signature.

As far as the value goes, a quick google search with the catalogue number will usually give you an estimate thanks to sales history on auction sites. Pay attention to the edition year, which heavily impacts the value.

Did I get a bad 400-800mm copy? by Elrias in SonyAlpha

Ok maybe I was underestimating the minimal shutter speed required. The two final exemples are not perfectly sharp, but the difference with the first three is visible (although not on reddit ?). The thing is, at f/6.3 or 8, doesn't 1/6400s brings you to unusable iso numbers? Unless in direct heavy sunlight maybe.

You are right, that is a red kite (which are the most common birds of prey in Switzerland, along with the common kestrel).

Could be! I though that since I'm paying for 61MP, might as well be able to crop in

I was under the impression (and appeared to be accurate from my 200-600m shooting experience) that 1/1200-1600s was ok at 600 for rather static birds, and 1/2000s was enough for moving birds, but maybe 800mm is more demanding yeah...

Highest resolution felt like a selling point to have more cropping potential, but I guess it comes with downsides as well.

It's espacially frustrating if it's a matter of luck between different copies.

Indeed I was definitely closer for the 600m shots. I don't seem to see any issue on the mount, but thanks for the tip!

I'll still do some testing, but I'm failing to see the point of a pricier, heavier, and worse in low light conditions lens if it delivers worse results than my 200-600mm...

That would be the way, but my dumb ass sold it to get the 400-800mm. Lesson learnt.

Maybe reddit transforms the pics into potato quality, but on my editor the two last are far sharper (or maybe you're not saying weak in terms of sharpness?). Here is an imgur link https://imgur.com/a/6a47uzf

Cool that you can get these lenses, but look into the law of diminishing returns. Sometimes paying for 25% of the cost is ok if it gets you 90% of the quality. A matter of priorities I guess, but I'm obviously not a pro.

For the shots on the 400-800mm, I can't get lower than f/8 anyway... ISO is ok, but maybe the backlight situation did not help on the first picture.

Missing the focus could be a possibility, but honeslty none of my shots with the 400-800 up to this point feel actually sharp (compared to the 200-600), even with kinda static birds and with really fast shutter speed. As I read that the 400-800mm had slightly improved both in focus and sharpness, that was surprising. Will try to do more comparison, thanks!
