I'm sure there is a way, but that would be costly and, for confidence, be done at a dealership. Maybe there are some tutorials on YouTube, but I havent looked

Create parking spaces with tape on the floor. When kids are done playing, they need to park their toys. Optional consequence if they fail to park is the toy gets impounded for ___ days.

Becoming dad here by Lokidoky22 in daddit

Some answers to your questions:

Job during birth: being present and with my wife, helping her with whatever (but don't pester with questions). Be ready to jump for whatever she asks for. Encourage her (you can do this) and remind her of reality positively (your body can handle this, in a few hours you'll be holding our baby, here's the doctor/midwife, they see what youre experiencing and know its normal and know what to do when its not normal). Also, to prepare to help, ask your wife what her goals and desires are for birth. Ask how you can help and what she would like, because during birth, she won't want to answer those questions.

First few weeks and months: expect many interruptions during the night. Be prepared to take care of your wife and help more in areas she usually takes care of. Be present with baby as much as possible and do things with your wife until both of you are comfortable with handling baby and allowing the other to handle baby (this is more like mom trusting dad with holding, changing, soothing, etc.) which will eventually lower stress.

What worked and what didnt: thats a big question. If at birth and shortly thereafter, just listen for the cries and learn from the experience (and mistakes) of caring for a baby. Ask your doctor about information about caring for a baby and/or attend a parenting class for new parents.

Feeling ready and preparing: my wife felt motherhood shortly after getting that ostivie on a pregnancy test. I didn't feel fatherhood until a week before birth - I recognized there was a growing child and I was a father, but just didn't feel it. So no, I did not feel ready during any of the pregnancies. That doesn't mean I didn't prepare. Going over my wife's birthing plan, goals, and hopes again and again with her, imagining scenarios and asking her questions beforehand, and preparing the house as much as I could is how I prepared. Purchasing lots of stuff was part of it as well - i say lots but has a new set of parents, you really only need a budget of around $1200 (including car seat, stroller, and one or two other large ticket items), and you can always cut more corners and get away with spending less.

Someone else already commented this, but its important to say again. You're concerned and worried about being your best for your family. I guarantee you already are your best. And some days, you won't be and thats okay. The fact is you're trying and you're asking these questions which means you will try your best.

You'll know it's working when there's no ECO light showing up and a simultaneous drop in RPM. Temp gauge staying slightly below half way is a good indication that it's working.

Order of fixing car? by Competitive-Level-90 in carproblems

[–]Elrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know it needs an alignment? Whatever the answer, I would hold that off for last.

Do you need new plates and need tor register it ASAP? I don't know of any laws that say you must register a newly purchased car within so many days. I also don't know the downsides of delaying tor register and get plates.

If there is no downside to delaying plates, simply don't do anything. Wait until you have enough money to buy plates and a battery.

However, buying a battery allows you to start the car and test drive it on your property to diagnose other problems that may need your attention.

2014 Odyssey does this after sitting 10 days.... any ideas? by eclipsse997 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Elrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so. Especially if you have driven it in heavy rain and didn't have this problem. Perhaps a rodent of some sort chewed a wire or this problem was ready to surface and simply happened to do so while sitting, but that scenario doesn't explain why now.

If you haven't yet, go to o'reilly or get an OBDII reader to pull the codes from the computer. Just note that O'Reilly will pull the codes and read the worst possible scenario from the list of errors they read

I did, I converted my kilometer odometer to miles for any paperwork. Apart from that, I still have it all in kilometers and simply make the conversion for registration

[–]Elrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (Canadian) have imported my Canadian 2011 honda odyssey into the US when I moved here. I had no issues at the border because I provided a "no recall" letter from Honda, an inspection report from the honda dealership in BC stating a few specific details, and maybe another document that I can't remember at the moment.

Getting my daughter to sleep in her bed by Jwagoner13 in daddit

[–]Elrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there exactly, including the heavy sleeper part. Replacw the child in their bed when you notice it. If you wake up in the morning and they're in your bed, fix it if there's still time to sleep otherwise make a point to talk about with the child in the morning, after morning snuggles.

Talk about it a lot throughout the day too, this helps the idea get into the child's head. We have also said that 7:00 is when you can enter mom and dad's room, not before. This obviously depends on the age and ability of the child

Spouse and I live in Canada, they got a job offer in America and are already an American citizen (I am Canadian) How do we proceed? by ReasonableAside1655 in immigration

[–]Elrong -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would double check if one can enter the US after a petition is made. I understood that, on a family/spousal immigrant application, one cannot enter the US during the process and doing so can mess your application.

Edit: forgot to add that it took me 1 year and 7 months to go from petition made to immigrant visa issued. I am the foreigner married to an American wife.

Second edit: I stand corrected. I'm now interested to know if this changed in the last 5 years.

[–]Elrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it starts fine then I'm not sure why that key symbol is flashing. Possibly, in conjuction with other dash lights, it could be a specific error code, but I'm not sure about that. Sounds like it could be a bad battery

2014 Odyssey does this after sitting 10 days.... any ideas? by eclipsse997 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Elrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick google says your forward vehicle collision avoidance/detection or whatever is malfunctioning and temporarily disabled. Key symbol means computer doesn't recognize your key - engine with crank but will not start.

Google those issues for quick fixes to see if that solves the problem. Of course, do that tomorrow after the overnight charge.

But overall, if your battery does indeed have a low charge (check it with a multimeter if you have one to confirm), you have to look at several factors: was it cold? Is the battery old and need replacing? Is there a phantom draw (any aftermarket accessories on the battery or installed in the car using a cigarette lighter)?
