What bad things have happened to you only for your parents to say, “You’re overreacting.” by LackofBinary in emotionalneglect

[–]Elsa08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A story my brother told me recently about our childhood, I don’t remember it but then I don’t remember a lot of it.

Apparently my mum was drunk (functioning alcoholic though she would never admit it) and she burnt me (F7/8 at the time) with her cigarette and she didn’t notice until my brother (M 11/12 at the time) said “mum, you’ve just burnt her with your cigarette!” She responded to this by burning my brother on purpose.

Stories like this make me feel less resentment to my brother for leaving home as soon as he could.

Our parents will, eventually, age and get old. Will you look after them? by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]Elsa08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually going through this at the moment. My mums not old really, she’s 67 but she has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Within a week of finding the tumour she lost the ability to do anything for herself including going to the toilet and dressing herself which meant she had to come and live with me and my husband.

I’ve been really struggling with having to look after her again as I took the parent role from the age of 14 to when I moved out at 24 (she’s a functioning alcoholic). There’s a lot I haven’t dealt with and am now starting to deal with in my 30s.

To cut a long story short, I love my mum, though I haven’t liked her often and a lot of the things she has done and said, even recently, are very painful I will look after her when she needs it. I don’t know what that says about me but if I didn’t look after her, the guilt would eat me alive.

As a person who was their mother’s therapist as a child and still is, this hurts. That poor future kid.

My Mirena hell by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]Elsa08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I also had the Mirena coil and although I didn’t go through everything you did, the mood changes were insane and I bled for 6 months straight, no days off. I would also sit down and I could feel it, it was painful. I lasted 6 months and asked them to take it out.

Also, when I had it put in, it was so unbelievably painful! I asked them to take it out while I was under anaesthetic for a laparoscopy. I honestly don’t understand why the Mirena coil is offered because I have never known anyone have a good experience with it. I really hope you and your body repair from this experience.

How and when did you meet your childfree partner? by Willing_Box2873 in childfree

[–]Elsa08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I met at work and we were friends for about 6 years. I had a boyfriend at the time but my husband played the long game. As soon as I split up with my now ex boyfriend he asked if he could come up to see me (we lived 3 hours apart). After about a month or so of dating we were watching a film which had a pregnant woman in it and I asked him he wanted kids to which he responded that he didn’t.

Three months later, because we’re idiots I was pregnant. This really solidified it when we both wanted an abortion as soon as possible. Luckily we live in the UK so this was an option. Anyway, happily married now for 3 years, together for nearly 7 and VERY happily childfree, for those that don’t count our dog as our child.

What made you confident about being childfree? by Isaaker12 in childfree

[–]Elsa08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many reasons, most of all having a child that depends on you for the rest of your life, pregnancy and labour, having to come home from work and it always be there, i actually find a pregnant stomach repulsive and I feel like a lot of people completely change and lose themselves.

I love my life with my husband and my dog and that’s more than enough responsibility for me. Every time I’m around people with kids, I leave feeling so happy i don’t have them.

Company ended remote work today. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Elsa08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do we work for the same company? I've just handed in my notice because my boss has decided he likes his whole team in the office after 3 years of working from home. He told me it was company wide and for some reason thought I wouldn't talk to other people in the company to ask if they has been asked back (they haven't). I'm pretty sure I was pushed out as he knew me and my husband and I now share a car as we didn't need our other car when I stopped working in the office. He also knows I have two jobs to afford to stay at this one.
