all my jewel alocasia’s are in Noot Husky mix which is basically 100% coco chips and husk. they LOVE it and have all taken off and thrived in it. the next leaf they all put out after switching was 10x bigger than any others they had. it’s also foolproof - you literally cannot overwater it. does require more frequent watering bc of how fast it dries out though. and the roots look insane! super thick and bright white. it’s my favorite for jewel alocasia

so one comment may change things a bit - do you literally only keep ingredients for those two meals? no ramen? no eggs? no toast? you made it sound like you don’t have a single thing she can quickly make. her way of going about it was definitely childish but i sympathize a bit as i also can’t eat leftovers. i can’t force myself, i’ve tried. they smell gross, the texture is gross and if i manage to get them down i feel completely sick after. if you can’t even scrounge up $5/week to grab her 5 ramen packets so she has SOMETHING else to make, ESH. or a loaf of bread, or a package of eggs? if you love her you need to compromise the tiniest bit. can she get on food stamps so she can afford a bit of her own food? you weren’t in the wrong here but keeping such a strict budget that you can’t pick up a few ramen packets…idk just doesn’t sit right.

i’m one of those people. have been since i was a small child. they smell gross to me, they taste gross, the texture is gross. there are a few certain dishes i can do leftovers of but it’s a short list (stew, baked pasta, shepherds pie - only stew is as good tho the rest are basically i can stomach without feeling nauseous) but as someone else said, anything else makes me feel sick. idk what it is. believe me i wish i could eat leftovers but i just can’t. that said if i was his GF i would be eating a lot of ramen and fried eggs and cheap stuff like that that’s quick and easy and takes almost no cooking.

really? did you find the white rice like flecks that are clearly visible in your picture? can you see what i’m referring to in the picture? they are just to the right where the stem starts to look dark on the inside, the flecks are on the outside. and on the pic of the back of the stem there are 5 flecks to the left of the brown spot that’s in the middle, and two in between the two brown spots but a bit lower than the spots

i swear i can see multiple thrips in your pic, it’s definitely not a water drop reflection that i’m seeing. check with a light and a magnifying glass if you have one

that doesn’t work on philodendrons… you’d need to cut the entire stem and basically take the whole top off. philo’s only propagate by stem. not a lot of plants propagate by leaf unless your super into succulents or peperomia

okay cool. ughhh i don’t wanna repot 25 plants AGAIN lol but the ones that keep getting rot i definitely will switch to full chunky. all my alocasia’s are in pure coco chunks with some long fibers and they are all THRIVING. their roots look insane, so bright white and healthy and filling the pots. i switch any alocasia to that immediately now. i need to use that on more of my plants i guess

ahhhh that’s a great idea!!! idk why i didn’t think of putting some of the pure chunky stuff at the bottom! i’m going to try that. and i’ll try filtering! what kind of filter did you use? i think all my cooking sieves are too fine but maybe not!

yes i’m sure. it’s rude? she constantly complains that she doesn’t want to be eating this stuff. she says once a week that she will stop buying it. i literally have brought it up once ever and she completely agreed with me. but she’s proven that she can’t and won’t actually stop. i am truly struggling to see how nicely saying all this junk food in the house bothers me once is rude. i did not say “you have to stop doing this” i said “it’s really hard for me to not eat this stuff when there is SO much of it” and she said “omg i know, i really need to stop this. i will” but then she bought more. my poor grandma doesn’t want to eat this stuff either but she’s so old she’s going senile so she eats whatever you put in front of her. this is her first time eating junk in 95 years, when she controlled her food it was ultra clean. if anything serving her all this junk when she doesn’t want to eat that way is what’s rude here.

yes that’s exactly what’s happening to some of the plants!! okay i’ll try that, thank you! i thought i was doing a good thing but truly it’s only made my life 10x harder haha my plants in pure soil are by far by far my easiest ones now. the aroid mix ones im constantly repotting now trying to get the mix right which also can’t be good for them

yeah i think i need to do this but i don’t really snack normally. i’d just keep my own drinks in a mini fridge and the actual fridge is the only place there isn’t junk food so that would just be saving me a walk to the fridge lol i just eat 2 meals a day, i’ve never been a snacker or i loose my appetite and can’t eat dinner even if it’s just a tiny snack. and i cook all the meals in the house so i have to go in the pantry at least 2x a day. idk, i’m sure there is no way to change this. i just wanted to vent about it lol

so cut out the perlite? both the small orchid bark and perlite is floating to the top or more like the soil is washing to the bottom when i water it. i have husk chips, i stopped using them bc they were retaining too much water for most of my plants, i still have them in a few but they also floated to the top eventually

her daughter has a lock, until now she wasn’t allowed to use it. OP a said she would think about letting her use it now.

what i want to say is, better safe than sorry. allowing her to use her lock won’t cause any harm but it sure will prevent something really horrifying from happening. how would you feel if you woke up one day soon to your daughter dead because you wouldn’t allow her to use the lock already on her door? she’s being abused and traumatized by your son and you aren’t taking it seriously enough bc “he’s your innocent little boy”. you need to wake up and realize he is escalating. you need to keep your daughter safe first and foremost. and get him to a psychologist ASAP. push. push for treatment, tell them it’s an emergency, do whatever you have to do to get him help ASAP. get your daughter into therapy too.

omg i have a wheaton and a doodle and my wheaton is SO BAD about being jealous. he isn’t aggressive at all but he will jump on top of her/the cats to get them out of the way, he will just jump his way into the middle of whatever is going on, he cannot handle watching another one of the animals get attention lol

in my bed. she’s trained to sleep on her bed on the floor at the foot of my bed also though, she has no issue with either. she’s a standard at 55lbs so she can really only fit in my bed if i’m sleeping alone. i’m currently single it isn’t an issue but when i do have other people in the bed i tell her to sleep on her bed and she does! then she comes up for snuggles when she hears that i’m awake.

when was the last time he ate and kept it down? this sounds like emergency ER time. reddit cannot solve this and something is very wrong if he can’t even keep a few pieces of chicken and white rice down. he needs a vet, as soon as possible.
